#INSTAIDIOTS RAPING ART? IF THERE IS A LIBERAL EXPRESSION, THERE SHOULD BE A LIBERTY ON CONSUMPTION.
First of all, i don't justify people who did any act of intervention on preserved artwork whether it is just as simple as touching or crossing the line that shud not be crossed as well. And there shud be strict regulation and evaluation on the visual signs especially for our people, who tend too lazy to read signs.
Human behavior and paradigm were changing from time to time, especially due to technological advancement that affecting the way of people enjoying art. The artists have their freedom to express what they want to express, but it seems there is no freedom on how the audience consume the art. If the nature of art is always about freedom, then truly there is no freedom on art, and this is unfair. Why selfie is having a bad reputation?
Looking at this issue, i feel that art people dont want to adapt to the current human's behavior (or maybe havent realized), where other industries trying to catch up. Today, we are living in an experience economy, which many people in service industries simply wrap experience around their traditional offerings to sell them better. Eko Nugroho and Yayoi Kusuma seems to adapt on today's people behavior by not only offering their traditional artwork, but also wrapping it with experential art where people enjoy the whole room experience which paying the admission. And of course, selfie is allowed, and for me it is surely embraced.
If they say art is merely decorative background, isn't art is multi-interpreted? if they think that art is decorative background, well it is. There is called freedom, and you can't force one to think like what you think, and do what you want them to do. And isn't it clear enough that sometimes contemporary artists might just want to create a new sensory experience to the audience? Of course, it is free to take a photo, if it is the way people appreciating offered experience. For me, it is wrong to say that they use the art only for decoration, it is actually precious and luxurious enough so we don't want to miss the moment with the art. What i'm trying to say is, selfie is not that bad. Selfie is just another way of consuming art, and for them, it is a self expression and modern visual langangue. They are trying to capture a meaning, a speech act that contains of depiction and explanation, a thought, location, or moment to convey something to people around them. Jenna Wortham said "Selfie is strongly suggest the world we observe thru social media is more interesting when people insert themselves in to it". Who's to blame?
From this issue, we must understand that human's behavior has been shifted. Sherry Turkle said, "Technology doesn't just do things for us, it does things to us, it changes not only what we do, but who we are". "The selfie makes us accustomed to putting ourselves and those around us on pause in order to document our lives" said Mike Rugnetta. Photography and social media is for everyone, it is easy, and reachable medium expression. If photography is an artistic medium why selfie is not? and what is so much hated? when actually selfie isn't really new, long before photography was born called "self-potrait".
It is wise to see this issue from a different perspective instead of bullying them (the general art selfier - not the vandal and idiotic selfie girl). Does selfie is really destroying art or is it a good long term investment? Many of us complaining the low enthusiast on art in Indonesia, and complaining there is just a little number of people who wants to go to an art exhibition. But now, when the audience is emerging, we are still complaining, especially with the selfie. I assure you, we need them. Who else will replace the role of the oldest generation of art collector? It could be started from them. For me, this is just a PROCESS for these new audiences to go through and ive been called this as A STAGES IN ART CONSUMER's ADOPTION based on my academic research, until eventually they are able to interpret and act properly AS YOU WISH regarding the art, and buy the art.
1. Went to the hype art exhibition 2. Stigmatize selfie 3. Attending various art exhibiton (not only because society's trend) 4. Following the artist's updates 5. Starting to learn to decrypt meaning of art 6. Understand the meaning of art 7. Instead of selfie maybe they will start to only capture the art (If they do selfie, its not that bad tho) 8. Into art 9. Buy the art
The best thing is when they are already into art, there is a higher probability they will buy the art, and maybe, become an art collector, so we dont need to depend on the international buyers anymore. And all of that are started from that filthy selfie. This is what a good investment really is. Many of us Indonesian, was provoked by other people that is not truly understand these 2 perspectives, and claiming that selfie as a declaration of stupidity. What is the output? It was only the pessimistic and aroused resentment on our own people. Again, we shud see this issue from a deeper and different perspective to understand, that this is not all wrong! Or maybe it is you wanting the art can be enjoyed by only certain and chosen people? Isn't it art shud be enjoyed by everyone?

PAUL SMITH LIMITED EDITION FOOTBALL
“A beauty of multi stripe and color football that you won’t use it to play in the soccer field”
As a tribute to World Cup 2014, Paul Smith designed a very wonderful and colourful leather football. This signature multi coloured printed stripe motif is featured by the British designer, with its chevron contrasting panels displaying zig zag patterns and graphic lines. And to make the hype of the products, they also release a new short film that is directed by young British director Oliver Hadlee Pearch. The film also features a stylized session of keepy-uppy with the formal suited and booted freestyle football player that is John Farnworth. He did some amazing tricks, awesome!
With only 250 pieces manufactured,  of course I won’t use it to play in the soccer field or use it for recreational uses. And its already sold out by now, I bet this one is the victim of the collector, innit? The price of the ball is £199.00.

FLOATING CHAIR? THIS LEATHER CHAIR FLOATING WITH 10 HELIUM BALLOONS!
“Just another eccentric design from japan, this one is Early Dopester’s favorite”
Genius… it is the first word that came up in mind when I first saw this balloon chair. You know, its just like  kids’ dream came true. Sitting in the air! This curvy look chair made up by seat – FRP, leather, steel, urethane balloon, and cord.  This chair inspired by the French movie called “Le ballon Rouge” which means red balloon. The leather and steel chair is actually attached to the wall by concealed anchors.
Well made by H220430, they focus on designing activities of lighting and furniture. They wanted to design not only the primary shape of things., but secondary communication deriving from the messages in the things. So powerful. H220430 is established on April 30th, Heisei 22 (the current era name in Japan), and got the first award winning in 2011 of decoration international media (Annual Original Product Design Award)
They also make other awesome chair that will lure you eyes, and we will discuss and feature it later on the next week’s article.

INNOVATIVE FOOD PACKAGE THAT YOU’LL FIND INTERESTING #1 (WIKI PEARL)
“An edible plastic package that is good for you, good for the environment, and just plain good”
Welcome to the first position of innovative food package design according to Early Dopester version. Isnt it blow your mind? Yes.. I introduce you Wiki Pearl. They offer beautiful food and beverages that you’ll never experienced before, from ice cream, cheese, frozen yogurts, to fruits, vegetables, water cocktails and soups. Inspired by nature, Wiki Pearl wants to make a product that you don’t need to waste the package anymore, just like you eating the fruits. You don’t think twice to eat the skins of grape right? They are inspired by the way nature package fruits and vegetables. Their technology protects the wrapped food against water loss, contaminant entry, and potential carriers of functional nutrition without exposing it to unnatural materials.
Talk about the technology, a Wiki Pearl is fundamentally made of 2 part. The first is the “heart” which means the food or beverage. And the second is the “skin” which means the natural, edible, biodegradable foods and nutrients. The skin is made of a protective electrostatic gel. They formed it by harnessing interactions between their natural food particles, nutritive ions and a polysaccharide. So the skin becomes more impermeable to water and oxygen.
This beautiful food and beverage comes from an idea of David Edwards, a bio-creator and Harvard professor. This man wondered that would it be possible to design food and beverage packaging like nature designs fruit and vegetables. Then, Edwards made his own research in collaboration with Francois Azambourg (home decoration designer) and Don Ingber (biologist). Finally this is the result, an edible food package that looks very natural, portable, plastic-free, environmentally friendly,  and of course fun!
Wiki Pearl also offers “create your wikipearl” that allows you to make your own wikipearl. You can pick a skin, a heart, add a little functionality by your own. And then you can share it to their gallery and will be voted for the people’s favorites.

INNOVATIVE FOOD PACKAGE THAT YOU’LL FIND INTERESTING #2 (FUNE SUSHI)
“Sushi takeaway packaging that comes with minimal concept yet with best functionality”
Talk about the minimal concept, I love minimal concept! Minimal in this context means that every attributes that have been designed have their own function. That’s why a thing that comes with minimal concept looks very simple and clean, cause they don’t have any useless attributes. The point is, if its useless, so don’t imply it. This packaging design inspired by streamlined frame of fish and ships. Its is save more cost because the material is saving cut, it doesn’t need complex graphic and very easy to assemble it.
This package also include soy sauce carrier and the chopsticks that needle for closing. This one is space saving, reduced to its essential, bio-degradable, and, environmentally friendly. The material can be recycled along with the normal waste paper. Isn’t it offers a very clean look? Came up with red and black color that represent Japanese cultured. Well.. I hope with and issue of world’s environment, all the designer across the globe could make more innovation that will give more advantages and convenient to mankind.

INNOVATIVE FOOD PACKAGE DESIGN THAT YOU'LL FIND INTERESTING #3 (TOGO BURGER)
“A lot number of take out containers have been design, and this is one of the best, all in one package, so handy”
Based on research of Seulbi Kim from Rhode Island School of design, consumers at many fast food restaurant seemed to have hands full because of unnecessary packages from staff. Its kinda inefficient. One hand to hold paper bag of the burger, and the other one to hold the drink. Unnecessary space + handsfull, that’s the insight that it is going to be a strength. Then from those problem, Seulbi Kim found an opportunity to make a package which can minimize materials used, maximize efficiency, and provide convenience for customers, and of course for the restaurant.
This package is designed to provide more convenient way of people to carry their food, only with one hand. One layer of paper that can carry your burger, fries, and drink. Well.. its very handy. The carrier will reduce the volume by 50% compared to other common package. Consist of handles, burger sleeve, straw hole, fries hook, looking hook, and drink hole.
If you realize, there are a lot of things out there that designer still can develop better due to efficiency and effectiveness. Just like this innovative Togo Burger package, it comes from a simple issue, a thing that people never think about, even they think its not efficient. And based on research, things that we are going to design will fit a lot better to consumer. Then if its fits, company should not need to pay extra money to things that consumer don’t need.

CRAZY DESIGNER BEATS TRADITIONAL FASHION #1 (MICHAEL KAMPE)
“The first position of crazy and eccentric fashion designer according to Early Dopester version”
A very strong and unique creation of Michael Nils Kampe. Born in Hamburg, Germany. His work beautifully designed with 3D architectural shapes and photoreal graphics. And again, breaking and shocking the world of traditional fashion. He remade it using unlikely elements to add an explosive aesthetic.
Talk about the collection, made in 2010. This far Michael Kampe has 2 collection, that are exploded view (images above) and Cape of Good Hope. His collection in exploded view implies explosion, destruction, detonation, in their structured world. The inspiration came from drawings and blueprints from engineers. He is really fascinated by the idea and image when he can deconstruct existing pieces like parka into several parts.
There is  no more words to describe this awesome work, it is really-really amazing. This is the thing that I like, how designer can think different, radical, and dare enough to introducing something that even market haven’t think of. Left a great ambush to the world of fashion. But again, innovation doesn’t come from the market, and if you are a great designer you don’t follow the trend of course. You are the one who make the trend, because innovation comes from us. This is how a brand can grow perfectly, because they have something different and unique to offer in market, something that will strengthen the brand awareness and recall. Something that differentiate you from other same business in industries. And this radical improvement, really got my attention.

CRAZY DESIGNER BEATS TRADITIONAL FASHION #2 (BYUNGMUN SEO)
“The second position of crazy and eccentric fashion designer according to Early Dopester version”
Talk about extraordinary outfit, this is not just another look that you’ve seen before. It is really got soul, and even lives. The man behind this sick idea is Byungmun Seo from South Korea. Did you realize amber chair by Jaekjung also came from South Korea? Wow… I bet there are a lot of amazing emerging designer there.
Byungmun Seo displays an unconventional construction of garment to his work, that often plays with creative pattern cutting and pushes the boundaries of traditional fashion. All the construction of his work had a deep meaning and idealism to create fresh and personalized looks. With the combination of high end fabric and many other unconventional material, he successfully create a luxurious and exclusive look.
All of the look above came up in 2013, in a collection of “Study of hidden recess of mind”. In this collection Byungmun Seo tried to look deeper into the immense shadows of the unconsciousness. The construction led by a single concept where a new silhouette is created by spatial mating of both two dimensional  and three dimensional object. There also an aspect where such playing of shapes in construction, to refuses their initial perception and offers the object new meaning. Isn’t it very strong? He is not only concern with the articles he made, but also other aspect that supported its look. And sometimes even thing that will not perceived by common people.

CRAZY DESIGNER BEATS TRADITIONAL FASHION #3 (KONRAD PAROL)
“The third position of crazy and eccentric fashion designer according to Early Dopester version”
Those coat is not like another coat you’ve seen, nor classical trench coat. This couture pieces made by a black cotton, lurex, foam, neoprene, mesh, plexiglass, soft calf leather with a cloak-hood.
Konrad Patrol made this looks for autumn winter 2011 collection called Les Marcenaires, more conscious and mature collection which focuses on the subject of rebels and outsiders, that consist of thirty-eight looks. You can also find other looks that very strong and also unique from the images above.
This crazy and eccentric fashion designer is an emerging and upcoming menswear designers that makes the world of fashion shocking with his dark aesthetic, rebel, mysterious, and also twisted touch of fragility.
“I believe in the rule, the man comes first, the idea comes second. It is important for me that one gets dressed and not dressed up. The outfit should always suit the situation. Everything is for the people, you need to know how to find a middle ground which is not easy, but search for it, brings us closer to the final result. All this makes the end result even more exciting and prey.” Metrovelvet in their interview with Konrad  Parol.
He believe that the main thing is the man, the idea comes second to make mysterious, darkness, and style into something high fashion for menswear.

THIS IS THE SECRET LIVES OF THE AMAZING COSPLAYER
"This the real cosplayers do when they are at home, enjoying time.."
Yes.. from the images above we call it cosplay. Well, basically Indonesian people have strong association between cosplay to somekind of manga or anime character. But actually.. not only that. Cosplay is not only associated with all of those things. According to Urban Dictionary, cosplay (costume play) is when someone dressing up and pretending to be a fictional character.  And usually they adopt sci-fi, comic book, or anime character.
But that’s not the thing we’re going to talk about, Photographer Klaus Pichler finds unique thing fascinating cross cultural phenomenon. He is been spent almost two years tracking down costumed enthusiast in his series Just the Two of Us, that’s LARPers, cosplayers, Krampusers, and even furries are asked to get their permission to photograph, in their domestic dwellings. Isnt it amazing?
In an Interview with Co.Design Pichler said “Almost every costume is meant to take part in action, be it a game, a parade, a duel or anything else, if you take the action and surroundings off every costume and depict them in relatively calm poses in their apartments, the whole thing gets and absurd touch. I loved playing with this idea” Don’t you agree? You will find cosplay is just normal thing in street or maybe somekind of parade. But once, when you choose to expose it at their home. Its really absurd, unique, but also amazing. This is a really brilliant idea.
But actually that doesn’t mean Pichler looks down on his subjects. He wants to create an earnest portrait of his subject, using the environment as a means to unmask a masked character.

IT’S A BULB LAMP + ELETRIC SOCKET
“If you need to charge you phone near you and you still want the lamp turned on”
Well.. Its called Plug Lamp. Isn’t it cool? Its only creating a lamp but with an electric socket on it.  But actually it’s not only, it’s a brilliant idea that comes from the simplest needs. The Plug Lamp has a bulbous shape and a base in molded and powder coated aluminium, here the plug socket is displayed centrally, making it a decorative detail.
The light itself is concealed by an opal glass shade and the lamp is dimmable.

By integrating the socket in the lamp it also takes away that annoying process of searching for a socket or having to unplug something in order to access an electrical point. This is what Indonesian designer to think like, all the brilliant idea, doesn't mean comes up with all of those complexities. The simplest one is better.

DOES IT POSSIBLE TO HAVE AN INVISIBLE CHAIR?
"The story of affinity chairs, vanish.. vanish.. vanish!"
This is what i like the most, the combination of light and transparent glass make it simply beautiful. The affinity chair explores our relationship with light and spaces. When alone, the chair will merge into background where you put it on. Its just like chameleon, mimicry. But when you approach, the light will turn on, the chair wakes, becoming transparent, revealing hidden depths and creating an almost infinite space beneath. Isn't it impossible? This is terribly crazy.
If you're home really got messed by a lot of your property, this one is a way out to manipulate the space. Talk about the designer, Ben Alun Jones. He said that the technology itself as an artistic medium to challenge existing perceptions. His material that he is using is very unconventional. LED's, ultrasonic sensors, programmed circuit boards, and other custom built thing. Yeah, then you think, is it a chair or some kind of computerization. And the result is.... very new, challenging, and anything but robotic. I want it so much!
Ben, used to worked in engineering and military surveillance before moving into the more benign world of interactive digital art, then he brings analytical and experimental approach to all of his work. And because of that, allows him to play with awesome technology to create new things, means,  expression, and challenge perceptions or create new ways of seing.

The essence of Bernotat&Co's work is to ponder the poetry of normalcy; to tease the rules and discover exceptions; to heighten the contrast between the mundane and surprising. Within these vagaries of perception, the final result will ultimately become an inspiring and practical product.

Anke Bernotat's challenge is to recombine old, forgotten solutions with nowadays needs to create surprising and useful objects. Aspects of everyday
life - whether they be story-telling, science and technology or nature - can be found in her work.
These manifest themselves in products for her design categories of living, working and public space.
