Some of them do, some of them don’t. Canons described as they/them in the basic outlines do not have an attached gender to them!

Could you see Lily James or Saoirse Ronan anywhere here at all?

Absolutely! Lily James could fit with the Albrights, I think, particularly with the Grahams, or as the Gold Digger canon. Saoirse Ronan would fit really well with the van Boijens, especially the Langenhofs or the Bretons.

Parents: Adetokunbo Fabian and Yetunde Raquel Moloi

Brief History: The Moloi Group used to be headed by the eponymous family but, with the rise of the Dukes and the sudden death of the Moloi scucessor and his wife, the children were left under the mercy of their relatives. Express grew up with the Dukes, while their siblings grew up with the Halls and the Pierces, as if in an attempt to keep them from collaborating and reclaiming their place in the family and the business. Express has had to prove their worth, study and work and earn their place as a lead market analyst for the group.

Brief History: Growing up with one of the orphaned Moloi children has always been a source of pride and hubris for Available, who knows that he is a ‘legitimate’ child, making sure to lord it over the Moloi. They are involved in their company, but not to the same degree as their sibling. They tend to take advantage of their resources and the family business to obtain anything that they can ever want, and they’ve been groomed to do so as well, turning out to be one of the most privileged, right-wing children among all other families.

Parents: Jacob Duke and Bridgitte Afia-Duke

Main Role: Successor to the Moloi Group

Brief History: The product of a successful union – like many successors – Free Market has enjoyed the privilege of being born as the eldest child of the main family. They grew up thinking of Express as their sibling, and hates the way their father operates the business with underhanded ruthlessness. Whether it is by their own motivation to dismantle systematic oppressions or to rebel against their family’s ways, Free Market is known for being a part of multiple not-for-profits and social movements. However, they keep this under wraps from their family, and keep their own identity a secret from their friends.

FAMILY: Kayal

BRANCH FAMILY: Esso (maternal)

Parents: Ismail and Mitra Kayal

Main Role: Successor to the MNE/MoFil Group

Current Role: UTP

Brief History: Magnate grew up surrounded with wealth, privilege and a cruel attitude that was encouraged by parents that told him, time and again, that the world rewards those strong enough and ruthless enough to win. It’s how the Kayal family undermined the now-extinct Blackcreeks and took power for their own, and have kept it with the family for generations. For Magnate, keeping the crown with the Kayal family is both a burden and a game in its own right. Their main competitors aren’t other families – it’s themselves. No matter how close Magnate is with his other family members, he would never disclose how much or how little he trusts them. Instead, he now works to strengthen the family’s connections, and perhaps make new ones that could be beneficial should the Essos, Mohsens and Nassars ever wish to rise against the main family’s sure heir.

Parents: Amir and Fareeha Esso

Main Role: Successor to Esso-Nassar

Current Role: UTP

Brief History: The Esso-Nassar company is headed by the Essos, a family known for their indiscriminate attitudes and bottom-line-only focus. This has gained them favour with the head of the family, and through their scheming, have managed to keep their main competitors, the Nassars, in line. Their only child is the pride and joy of his parents, Black Card. Like his parents, he has the capacity to be just as apathetic and borderline-psychopathic. Unlike his parents, however, he regards his cousins and other family members with a healthy degree of respect. He sympathises with Drill and is one of Magnate’s closest friends, even considering Magnate his own brother. He enjoys the privilege of being an only son by being spoiled to bits by his parents, but he also experiences the ever-looming pressure to marry. Perhaps this is why he’s also an experienced liar, hiding his worst habits from his family more often than not.
