I think a lot of what makes fanfiction so magical is writers taking the time to explore tiny elements that were imagined into existence in the source material and then abandoned. It's the deep dive into that t-shirt, the forgotten gift, the nickname, the spare key, the anger they swallowed down, the trauma they supressed, the love they denied, the story that wasn't mainstream enough to make it. It's the little things getting their moment to shine and I fucking love that and I will fight for it always.

Parrot story: my father's neighbours used to have a pet parrot. Poor thing was so traumatized and stressed it started plugging its own feathers and pecked the child's hand with it's beak. They had to throw a blanket over the cage because everytime you lifted it the parrot would go nuts.

Sadly, I don't know what they did to the parrot in the end or how long it stayed after I last saw it.

Zeus who makes it rain for the couples that just want to frolic and dance and kiss in the rain

Hera who donates to woman’s and SA survivors shelters

Ares who is at the forefront of every protest because those are battles too

Hestia who holds and keeps thousands of secrets so the ones who whispered them into flame don’t have to

Hades who let’s families get one last goodbye to a loved one before they die

Persephone who personally makes sure that the ones taken too early feel safe and secure in the Underworld

Demeter who gives Her best crops to food banks and homeless shelters

Hecate who is a street magician and does actual magical for the kids

Poseidon who finds the best seashells and leaves them on the beach for someone to find and treasure

the heroine of rebecca is so fucking funny because she will just go off on a tangent where she imagines what will happen if she does something and it will be three pages of her going into the most DETAILED FUCKING DAYDREAM you have ever heard, complete with subplots and dialogue, meanwhile in the real world she has not moved or said anything she's just sitting on the floor catastrophizing while everyone around her is carrying on as normal because they haven't noticed she hasn't contributed to the conversation for the last 10 minutes. the guy she likes will tell her to her face "i am hanging out with you because i like spending time with you, i am not playing games or being nice or speaking with any double meaning" and she's like "sounds fake." she starts a small fire in a hotel room while her fiancé and employer are in the NEXT ROOM talking about her because she's convinced she'll never live up to her man's ex and she wants to take her mind off it. her best friend is a dog. she tries to climb out a window to avoid meeting her in-laws. girl is mentally unwell! 10/10 anxiety representation.

i think a really funny project that a statistics professor could have their class do is like. put a bunch of random, patently untrue demographic statements into a hat. "the most popular tv show among white men ages 24-27 is Bluey." "the majority of business majors are middle children." "bisexual women love hot chips." and each student picks one out of the hat and you gotta like. design a whole study and survey a group of people to specifically achieve that result. you have to prove it true. by whatever means necessary. you have to construct the most biased study possible and wrangle in your exact demographic to make that statement a statistical reality. i think people would learn a lot.
