Instagram is going after the best part of Snapchat in the worst way
Instagram is compiling Instagram posts based on location. Sounds like it’s copying Snapchat Our Stories, right?
SEE ALSO: Instagram killing Snapchat? Don’t count on it
Well, it would be, if it were putting any editorial judgment into what’s being created and if the content shared on Instagram was actually enjoyable to watch.
Instead, Instagram is simply letting algorithms do its bidding by compiling posts from user’s publicly-shared Instagram Stories into a slideshow based on the location tag, TechCrunch reported Tuesday.
While TechCrunch may refer to this move by Instagram as an “exciting moment,” I look at it and say, “Nice try.” TechCrunch also wrote “As of today, Instagram has copied that last major Snapchat Stories feature,” which is just blatantly false because Snapchat has something we like to have in the journalism industry: editors. New Post has been published on http://edgysocial.com/should-you-or-should-you-not-be-working-out-on-an-empty-stomach/
Should You (or Should You Not) Be Working Out on an Empty Stomach?
As the amount of fitness information available is getting bigger, the chances of being exposed to bad advice are also growing, creating more fitness myths than ever. Yet, one of the most debatable myths that has been out there forever is the myth of working out on an empty stomach.
It has been a prevailing thought for decades that you shouldn’t eat or drink prior to working out, and it seems that only recently the public has started questioning its accuracy.
“Fasted” versus “Fed”
The common belief of the effectiveness of the “hungry workout” isn’t unsupported; actual research backs it up. The British Journal of Nutrition[1] and the International Journal of Sports Nutrition and Exercise Metabolism both published studies that show data in favor of “fasted” as opposed to “fed” training when it comes to the percentage of fat lost per workout.[2]
Additionally, a study published in the European Journal of Applied Physiology shows that fasted training provides a better anabolic post workout response to weight training, meaning it provides a better environment for building lean mass.
Namely, the conclusions indicate that “prior fasting may stimulate the intramyocellular [stored fats] anabolic response to ingestion of a carbohydrate/protein/leucine mixture following a heavy resistance training session.”[3]
Moreover, by providing better absorption of the post workout meal nutrients, fasted training has the great potential to improve insulin sensitivity, and is, therefore, an important agent in the fat loss process.
As insulin sensitivity shows how easily fat and muscle cells in our body take in glucose, regulating insulin sensitivity helps lower the blood sugar levels, which is one of the most important factors in weigh loss. The Journal of Physiology published a study[4] that shows significantly greater insulin sensitivity improvement for the fasted training group as opposed to fed training group.
Finally, fasted training proved beneficial to endurance performance. In a study[5] published in the Journal of Strength and Conditional Research, ten professional cyclists maintained lean mass, lowered fat mass, and maintained performance.
Why fed training is better?
However, there is another side to the story that trumps the beliefs of efficacy of fasted workouts. As sports dietetics specialist Kelly Pritchett, Ph.D., R.D. explains, while the body’s response to a high-intensity fasted workout is to burn glycogen, the stored up carbohydrates, eventually, the body starts to adjust to the new system and starts storing fat from the next meal and burning less calories in order to compensate.[6]
Additionally, a study[7] published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition shows no benefits of fasting, since longer periods of avoiding food showed a decrease in resting metabolic rates (calories burned per unit of time, a day usually.)
What’s more, fed training actually helps reduce appetite later in the day, as a study[8] in the journal Appetite shows. Whereas both fed and fasted training participants were expanding the same amount of energy throughout the day, the fed training participants experienced lessened appetite later on, which means less snacking or overeating later in the day, which is great news for anyone who wants to lose weight.
Although it may seem (according to scientific data) that fasted exercise provides better results, later and more extensive research shows the opposite is true.
As far as the fat burning capacity of fasted training is concerned, while it is accurate to some point, on the other hand it is proven to be counterproductive.
Namely, throughout the course of a high-intensity fasted workout, having no more fat to burn, the body starts to burn muscle instead. As another study[9] published in the European Journal of Physiology shows, during high-intensity training, without prior eating, the body relies on burning muscle proteins for energy, which is certainly an unwanted scenario for both professional athletes, and people who are just trying to shed some weight and feel better.
Another important benefit of fed training is that it gives you the ability to improve at a steady rate, which is impossible to achieve through a fasted workout regimen, as a study[10] from the Journal of Science and Medicine in Sport shows. Being able to push yourself a little bit further each time, and outperform your previous training, isn’t feasible with fasted training since your body lacks the energy to rely on for additional strength. By eating a light meal before your workout, your body will be provided with enough energy to help you perform a little better each time.
As the study concludes, “meal ingestion prior to daily exercise can modify some of the exercise training-induced adaptations normally seen with endurance training compared to when daily exercise is undertaken in the overnight-fasted state.”
How Fed training affects fat loss
When it comes to burning fat, the results are more favorable for the fed training method. As another study[11] in the International Journal of Sport Nutrition and Exercise Metabolism shows, physical activity after a light meal is far more effective for fat loss.
The study analyzed the effect on oxygen consumption (VO2) and substrate utilization (how our bodies burn fats and carbs), estimated by the respiratory-exchange ratio (RER) in eight young healthy men who were exposed to the same moderate-intensity workout. The results showed that breakfast increased both VO2 and RER significantly, and more importantly, the difference was still significant 24 hours after exercise. This means that fed training increases lipid utilization (the breaking down of fat cells), which is essential for weight loss.
Another study[12] in the Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition has managed to completely refute the belief that fat loss is much faster throughout fasting training, as the results showed no significant difference in weight loss between women who ate a meal-replacement shake before working out and those who performed training without any meal.
Conclusions
All research considered, a fed workout actually has more scientifically proven benefits to overall health, fitness, weight loss, and workout performance, as opposed to fasted training. It may seem like fasted training aids in body fat loss, but in the long run, it actually has counterproductive effects, as the body starts to store fat and burn less calories as a precaution.
Additionally, the studies show far greater and longer effects on burning body fat with fed training than those of a fasted. Moreover, the decreased appetite shown in groups who performed fed training is another reason for people who want to shed some weight to enjoy a light meal before a workout in order to prevent later cravings.
Finally, for reaching new higher goals in fitness and training, a fed workout is again a much more productive option, since the calories provide enough energy for extra effort.

Drew Brees Talks Balancing Football With Raising 4 Kids

Drew Brees is one of the NFL’s good guys. Few players are more involved in the community, and few are more respected on and off the field. The 38-year-old quarterback of the New Orleans Saints is now working to raise awareness about the signs of exertional heat stroke, a significant cause of death in high school athletes, with “The Heat Factor” campaign.
The onetime Super Bowl winner and MVP is a 10-time Pro Bowl selection who won the prestigious Walter Payton Man of the Year Award in 2006. Brees talked with HuffPost about exertional heat stroke, the challenges of being a dad in the NFL (he has four kids) and why he doesn’t play basketball.
There is often a misdiagnosis between concussions and exertional heat stroke.
Well, I would just say the symptoms are similar. If you see somebody on the football field kind of stumbling around, you might initially think he’s concussed, took a shot to the head. Whereas it might be a case of EHS, and his body temperature is now at 104 or above and he’s extremely dehydrated and he’s starting to go into some type of organ issues that’s affecting his brain as well. That’s obviously a different situation that requires immediate attention. There’s protocols in place to try to get the body to cool down immediately before getting any type of organ damage or potentially death.
I think the concussion element is, short term you’re going to be OK, but long term there’s serious effects. If you don’t address a concussion right now and give it the proper rest — really with the concussion just comes rest, allow it to heal. With EHS, it’s not we’re just going to rest and allow yourself to heal. It’s we got to cool the body down now or else we’re risking organ failure or death.
So I’d say there’s obviously a difference. While the symptoms might appear to look the same on the field, they’re obviously different protocols.
How do you pair being a dad with being an All-Pro quarterback?
It is [hard], and I think it gets harder as the kids get older, because they’re involved in so many activities and you want to be at all of them. But I’d say my kids know that when I go to work, “Dad’s got a great purpose for what he’s doing at work.”
How hard is it to physically leave the house and go to work?
So while at times it’s hard to leave the house because maybe my daughter is saying “don’t leave” and stuff like that, I feel like I have a good system in place. My wife is so supportive and such a cornerstone with her communication, like “Hey, daddy’s gotta go to work, or daddy’s working hard to support the family, or daddy’s gotta get ready to go play the big football game and we’re gonna go see him in the game this weekend.” They understand it.
She’ll bring them up to the facility sometimes, like if I know I’m going to have a late night, she’ll bring them up to the facility and maybe have dinner together and run around the indoor facility just for a little while. But for the most part, I structure my day around, “OK, when are they going to be awake? When am I going to be with them?” I try to be there for them at night to read them a book before they go to bed on the busy days, so we have our moments.
What is the daily routine?
I leave the house before everybody is up. I’m an early riser. In the offseason, I usually get up around 4, 4:30 ― that’s the offseason so I try to get work done before the kids get up around 6, 6:30. But during the season I usually get up around 5, head into the facility, and kind of start my day off by watching film, getting ready for the day, going to the weight room, get my body loose, go get breakfast, and we kinda start the day.
It’s meetings, about three hours. It’s all installation, game planning, looking at film of the opponent, then you go out on the field and you’re in practice for three hours, then it’s back to the weight room. You’ve got your media responsibilities, then it’s going to the training room ― let’s take care of the body ― and then go to the post-practice meetings where we watch practice and make corrections. Then it’s all right, let’s study the game plan. Make sure to head home at a certain time to know I’ll catch the kids before bed. It’s a full day.
What role then does sleep play for you?
Right at seven hours, seven-and-a-half hours, is kind of my sweet spot. Unfortunately, I probably get a lot less than that. When I’m in heavy training during the season, I really try to do that because the recovery is vital, it’s vital ― healing the body, healing the mind. But during the offseason, I probably don’t get as much rest as I should because I’ve got a lot going on.
Do you dabble in hoops at all?
I love basketball, but I don’t really play because of the injury risk. I dunk on people all the time though. [Laughs] No, no dunking on people.

Trump Family And Friends: In Your Pockets
Donald Trump has openly said that he doesn’t care at all about the rules that prohibit the president and those around him from profiting from their government positions. In breaking with longstanding precedent, he is holding on to his business empire and having his children run it as he carries on with the business of being president.
With the government forced to pay the bills for the Secret Service to stay at his golf resorts and hotels, Trump obviously feels no compunction about gouging taxpayers to put more money in his pockets. But this open graft is almost certainly the least important way in which Donald Trump’s family and friends will profit at the expense of the rest of us.
We still don’t know most of the details of Trump’s tax plan, but the main parts of the plan we do know look like it was written to benefit him personally as much as possible. First, it gets rid of the Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT). This tax was put into law in 1986 to ensure that wealthy people, who can use deductions to drastically reduce their taxes, will still have to pay some amount of tax.
In his leaked 2005 tax return we know that Trump paid 25 percent AMT rather than the much lower rate that his aggressive use of tax loopholes would have allowed. It’s not a big surprise then, that Trump’s tax plan gets rid of the AMT.
Trump is also proposing to allow individuals who have pass-through corporations to pay his newly lowered 15 percent corporate income tax rate instead of the top individual tax rate that he would set at 35 percent. The vast majority of Donald Trump’s income comes through pass-through corporations, which means that he would likely be paying a tax rate of less than 15 percent under his tax plan. Of course all rich people will arrange to have their money come through pass-through corporations if the Trump tax plan goes into effect, but he will have a head start.
Trump also eliminates the estate tax, a tax that only 0.2 percent of estates pay now. (If you think your kids are going to be paying the estate you’re deluded about your wealth.) Since Trump is likely to have an estate worth billions when he dies, this tax cut could easily put more than a billion dollars into his kids’ pockets.
But a tax code designed for the very rich is only the beginning. Trump is intent on running the whole government to make him and his family and friends richer.
During the campaign, Trump endlessly complained about China’s “currency manipulation.” He argued, with real cause, that China’s practice of propping up the dollar against the Chinese yuan was increasing the U.S. trade deficit and costing us manufacturing jobs. He assured us that he would get tough with the Chinese and demand they raise the value of their currency.
When he had the opportunity to press his case in a meeting China’s President Xi Jinping last month, he folded completely. He came out of the meeting and told everyone that he and President Xi were good buddies and he could see no reason to press Mr. Xi about the currency values. While Trump didn’t get anything that would improve the job prospects of American workers, China did grant Ivanka Trump several valuable trademarks, so he didn’t walk away empty-handed.
But it is not just the Trump family that is profiting off his administration, the investor Carl Ichan, who serves as all purpose “unpaid” adviser looks to earn a substantial profit off of his advice. Ichan engaged in discussions on altering federal regulations that require refineries to use a certain amount of ethanol in gasoline and other refined products.
Following these discussions, Trump reversed a position he had taken in his campaign. Ichan stands to make more than $ 100 million from this reversal.
Unfortunately, letting the affected industry control the regulatory process seems to be pretty much the norm in the Trump administration. His top financial regulators are virtually all from Wall Street, with Goldman Sachs being the leading source of Trump team talent.
Trump’s pick to head the Federal Communications Commission is a former lawyer for Verizon whose first target in his new position is to end the policy of net neutrality, which ensured everyone equal access to the web. Scott Gottlieb, Trump’s pick to head the Food and Drug Administration, was a board member of a pharmaceutical company and has received hundreds of thousands of dollars for fees as a consultant to the industry.
In short, the outlook for most of the country may not look great in the Trump years, but Trump’s family friends should do very well.

New Post has been published on http://edgysocial.com/what-makes-our-listening-ineffective-and-how-to-improve-it/
What Makes Our Listening Ineffective and How to Improve It
Engaging in selective listening may be the easiest way to pick a fight with your significant other. I know I’m guilty of it. I listen to what he says and assume I understand what he means, and not always in a positive way.
This misunderstanding typically stems from the fact that I am not actually listening at all. I am hearing what I want to hear and tuning out everything in between. This causes me to have my own version of the entire conversation, and it usually isn’t very accurate. Many women will joke that their husbands have selective listening, but could it be that we are all a little guilty of it?
What Is Selective Listening and Why It Is Problematic
Selective listening, or selective attention, is the phenomenon that occurs when we only see what we want to see and hear what we want to hear. It’s a type of mental filtering in which we tune out someone’s opinions or ideas when they don’t line up with ours.[1] This isn’t just a bad habit or rude behavior. It’s part of a big problem which results when you are unable to hear what someone has to say because you are refusing to submit yourself to the underlying confrontation. That potential fight is the real reason we often stop hearing what someone has to say; we’ve already decided they’re wrong because we are right.
If You Want to Have Good Listening, You Need to Care First
Good listening ultimately comes down to priorities. If we deem something to be important and worth listening to, there’s a good chance we are going to block out all background noise and focus on that one thing. But if we’re listening to our spouse remind us to get milk, there’s a good chance we’ll be more focused on the celebrity gossip show we’re watching and listening to. In fact, our brains were made to prioritize some audio cues over others!
Whether we are fully aware of it or not, we are always selectively listening. Science has proven that our brains are able to determine which conversations to tune out (no matter how many are happening around us simultaneously), but our brains also give us the ability to focus on specific conversations individually while multiple conversations compete for our attention [2].
Selective Hearing Can Make You Close-Minded and Destroy the Relationships You Cherish
Though choosing not to hear the request to take out the garbage can seem petty, selective hearing as a whole is a big deal. It completely closes you off to accepting, or even entertaining, different ideas. This ultimately impacts the things you may choose to believe and learn.
More so, the partner who is sick of you “not hearing” them ask you to wash the dishes or fold the laundry may not stick around to see what else your ears ignore. Relationships only work if communication is strong, and selective hearing makes it hard to understand the needs and wants of others. In fact, some people may view your refusal to truly listen as a sign that you are manipulating the relationship and making it completely one-sided.
When You Recall the Memory of Not Being Listened to, You’ll Know Why You Need a Change
Acknowledging that you may sometimes suffer from selective listening is not enough — you have to change and be a better partner and friend.
Think about the last time it was clear to you that the person you were talking to had no interest in what you were saying. It was apparent that they didn’t want to hear what you had to say, and even if they were nodding their head, your words were going in one ear and out the other. Frustrating, wasn’t it?
Why do you think that person was tuning you out? Was it the timing of the conversation? Were you interrupting something important? Was it a deep conversation in which you knew the other person would have opposing views?
No matter what, think about how that conversation has affected every conversation you’ve had with that person after the selective listening experience. Has it changed how you communicate? It’s important to politely ask that person to be open to what you’re saying, but to emphasize that they don’t have to agree with what you voice.
Listening Isn’t Only About Your Ears But Also Your Mind
Choosing to be less selective in your listening does not mean you have to be less selective in your opinions and ideas. Instead, it’s a matter of welcoming differing opinions and allowing yourself to consider them. Even if the end result is the same — you aren’t open-minded about a new idea, or you will never help unload the dishwasher and dust the shelves in the living room — fine. What matters is that you actively listened and made a decision after weighing the options. Imagine the impact that could have on your communication with everyone you encounter.
Remember, before this article, you may not have realized that you ever listened selectively or that it could negatively affect your relationships. So, be patient with those around you as they try to be more self-aware, too. And hey, you could always casually share this article with them!

Former ESPN Anchor Says She Had A Miscarriage On Air
Former ESPN anchor Sara Walsh wrote candidly in an Instagram post Sunday about losing a pregnancy during a broadcast of “SportsCenter.”
Walsh, who gave birth to twins earlier this year, was among the roughly 100 ESPN employees laid off late last month by the cable network. Her layoff, which she confirmed in early May, drew particular attention because it came as she was scheduled to return from maternity leave.
Walsh was three months pregnant when she suffered a miscarriage during a live SportsCenter broadcast from Tuscaloosa, Alabama ― the home of the University of Alabama ― she said in the Mother’s Day post.
“The juxtaposition of college kids going nuts behind our set, while I was losing a baby on it, was surreal,” Walsh said. “I was scared, nobody knew I was pregnant, so I did the show while having a miscarriage. On television. My husband had to watch this unfold from more than a thousand miles away, texting me hospital options during commercial breaks.”
Walsh is married to minor league baseball pitcher Matt Buschmann.
She didn’t say when the miscarriage occurred, though she hosted SportsCenter live from an Alabama football game in November 2014, according to ESPN.
Though pregnancy loss is common, misconceptions surround it. Healthy women have a 15-to-20 percent chance of having a miscarriage, the American Pregnancy Association estimates. And most miscarriages are due to chromosomal abnormalities and have nothing to do with maternal behavior, according to the Mayo Clinic. Experts say that when celebrities speak out about their experiences, it can help relieve some of that pressure on women who may feel alone when it comes to pregnancy loss.
My mother bought them these onesies because she thought they were funny. For us, they're especially poignant. Finding a good egg didn't come easy for me, and I suspect there are many people out there facing the same struggle. The road down a dark path began while hosting Sportscenter on the road from Alabama. I arrived in Tuscaloosa almost three months pregnant. I wouldn't return the same way. The juxtaposition of college kids going nuts behind our set, while I was losing a baby on it, was surreal. I was scared, nobody knew I was pregnant, so I did the show while having a miscarriage. On television. My husband had to watch this unfold from more than a thousand miles away, texting me hospital options during commercial breaks. It would get worse. Two more failed pregnancies. More than once, I'd have surgery one day and be on SportsCenter the next so as not to draw attention to my situation. We then went down the IVF road of endless shots and procedures. After several rounds, we could only salvage two eggs. I refused to even use them for a long time, because I couldn't bear the idea of all hope being gone. I blew off pregnancy tests, scared to know if it worked. It had. Times two. It was exciting news, but we knew better than to celebrate. So I spent a third straight football season pregnant, strategically picking out clothes and standing at certain angles, using scripts to hide my stomach. There would be no baby announcement, no shower, we didn't buy a single thing in preparation for the babies, because I wasn't sure they'd show up. We told very few people we were pregnant, and almost no one there were two. For those that thought I was weirdly quiet about my pregnancy, now you know why. For as long as I can remember I hosted Sportscenter on Mother's Day, and the last couple years doing that have been personally brutal. An hours-long reminder of everything that had gone wrong. I wasn't on tv today, and I'm not sure when I will be again, but instead I got to hang with these two good eggs. My ONLY good eggs. And I know how lucky I really am.
A post shared by Sara Walsh (@sarawalsh10) on May 14, 2017 at 5:57pm PDT
Walsh said in her post she had two other miscarriages after the first one, and that she appeared on television throughout.
“More than once, I’d have surgery one day and be on SportsCenter the next so as not to draw attention to my situation,” she wrote.
Walsh found out she was expecting twins last fall and “spent a third consecutive college football season pregnant, strategically picking out clothes and standing at certain angles, using scripts to hide my stomach.”
She and Buschmann told only a few people about the pregnancy before the twins were born in late January.
“For as long as I can remember I hosted Sportscenter on Mother’s Day, and the last couple years doing that have been personally brutal,” she said. “An hours-long reminder of everything that had gone wrong. I wasn’t on tv today, and I’m not sure when I will be again, but instead I got to hang with these two good eggs. My ONLY good eggs. And I know how lucky I really am.”

The Apple Watch could be revolutionary in the fight against diabetes
For people with diabetes, the Apple Watch could soon become indispensable.
BGR claims to have “exclusive” information from a source “familiar with Apple’s plans” about the company’s efforts to develop groundbreaking new ways to harness the Watch’s health-tracking potential.
Apple aims to introduce the first-ever method for non-invasive glucose monitoring as a feature in an upcoming version of the Watch, according to the source. The introduction of tech like that would be a major breakthrough for those living with diabetes, who are typically forced to track their glucose through a variety of more invasive means, like pricking their fingers for blood tests. What to expect when you're expecting the net neutrality debate to begin
On Thursday,  the Trump FCC will vote to adopt a final “Notice of Proposed Rulemaking” (NPRM) that will officially begin the effort to repeal the 2015 network neutrality rules and the legal authority upon which they are based — Title II of the Communications Act of 1934. Title II says that broadband Internet Service Providers (ISPs) like Comcast and AT&T are essential “telecommunications services,” and as such, can be prohibited from discriminating against or favoring certain Internet traffic.
Anticipating a huge outcry, FCC Chairman Ajit Pai two weeks ago opened a “docket” for the public to submit comments, and it has — over one million comments have already been submitted. The final NPRM will start the official period for comments and reply comments on the proposal to repeal the rules  (comments are currently due on July 17; replies on August 16). Comments can be submitted here, but you must wait until the NPRM is released (likely Thursday afternoon). Read more…

How Your Employer May Have Paid You Less Working Overtime
Overtime is a common practice in most job unfortunately; getting paid for it is usually not consistent. The first thing to keep in mind is that overtime is voluntary unless it is an emergency situation or an urgent attention.
That is the theory, but in reality we all know that if you repeatedly refuse to do overtime when the situation demands, you are most likely to be fired. If the company asks for an overtime, it is best to do them and if necessary demand the collection for an extra wage at the appropriate time.
How Bad Is Overtime for Us?
Disadvantages of overtime are usually aligned with health and un-productivity. below are some demerits of overtime your should know.
Exhaustion is a condition that you feel completely overwhelmed. It is often caused by stressful or excessive work, making you feel sick, tired and weak. According to a recent study by the Aragon Institute of Health Sciences, people who work more than 40 hours a week increase their risk of exhaustion six times compared to people who work less 35 hours per week.
But the question is, are employers really obligated to pay you for overtime and on what ground should you be paid for an overtime?
How Is Overtime Paid?
Overtime is generated[1] when an employee exceed the standard working hour or time agreed. However, The remuneration of these extra hours can be made with money, days off or with the corresponding hours of rest pending on employer.
If it is with money, overtime must be reflected in the payroll and in no case can be paid with an amount less than the normal working hour. In fact, it is normal for the value of the overtime worked to be greater than the remuneration of an ordinary hour and more if those overtime hours were generated on a weekend or on a holiday.
When Must A Company Pay For Overtime Working?
During interviews,[2] employers do not inform potential employees of a need for overtime. However, the terms are often stated in the agreement papers or employment guide which most employee are not aware of.
The concept of non compliance with overtime far outweigh the consequences of not paying employees. Sometimes companies deliberately ignore employees right.
Below are some concepts your should know about overtime:
1. When Your Employer Is Covered by the FLSA Law
If your employer is covered by the FLSA,[3] they are obligated to pay you for an overtime. However, If you fall into the “exempt” categories, you are not entitled for any payment. However, if your employer isn’t covered by the FLSA, you may be entitled to overtime under state law or otherwise.
2. When the Company’s Annual Income Meets the Specific Standard
Not all companies are eligible to pay employees for overtime. To determine if you are eligible first, determine whether it’s covered by the federal Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), and if it has $ 500,000 and above in annual sales and income. If not paying for overtime is at the companies discretion.
3. When You Are Asked to Report Duties Early
Sometimes employers may ask you to resume for duties early. However, most employees do not realize that starting before the appointed time could count as overtime. If this happens and you work on a clock system, you are entitled to extra payment.
Who Gets Paid For Overtime?
For employees working more than 40 hours a week are qualified to extra pay for the overtime hours. This is simple the standard as stated in the federal Fair Labor Standards Act, which requires the payment of overtime fro non-exempt employees.
Basically, there are two types of employees:[4]
Non-Exempt Employees – 1.5 Times Regular Rates
Firstly, If you are employed as a non-exempt employee, then you are entitled to be paid a minimum of one and one-half times your regular rates of pay if your working hours exceed 40 hours in a week.
Exempt Employees – Obligated to Be Paid
if you were employed as an exempt personal then your company has a right to pay you for overtime at their discretion for engaging in overtime.[5] However, you are obligated to get paid for working overtime.
Anything to Do to Cope with Overtime?
There are times when overtime is not recommended. For example, if your employer made you do overtime on an earlier occasion and never acknowledge it. You must then demand for clear terms on working overtime.[6]
Accepting to work overtime should depends on many factors. It is advisable to analyze all the pros and cons of working longer hours for a company. If you see that it benefits you, do not hesitate to accept it.
Here are some helpful hints for accepting overtime.
Establish a Relationship
There is nothing absolutely outstanding than a cordial relationship with your superior. Thus, to help you alleviate the burden that comes with overtime, develop a great relationship with your superior he or she could likely be a helping hand during overtime.
Analyze Company Practices
Each company has its own philosophy when it comes to schedules. When you join a company try to investigate the policies in the schedule so that you have full knowledge of the company’s practices.
Work from Home
There is always the possibility of taking work home, so you can avoid overtime. Try to reach an agreement with your company if this possibility is feasible.
Be Familiar with the FLSA Laws and Know Your Rights
Above all, be conversant with the FLSA Laws regarding employers and employees and you will be at the knowhow of your companies compliance regarding your rights.

Spurs Coach Gregg Popovich Rips 'Game Show' President
Gregg Popovich lighting into Donald Trump about how he conducts himself: "It's a game show" pic.twitter.com/kLyUYtg3Xi
— Anthony Slater (@anthonyVslater) May 14, 2017
It’s no secret that San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich isn’t a fan of Donald Trump. But on Sunday, when a reporter asked if the world outside basketball was “distracting” him, Popovich concurred, saying Trump was a “game show” president who was creating an apocalyptic “pall” over the nation.
“Usually things happen in the world and you go to work, you know, and you got your family and you got your friends and you do what you do. But to this day I just feel like there’s a cloud, a pall, over the whole country in a paranoid, surreal sort of way,” said Popovich. “It’s got nothing to do with the Democrats losing the election. It’s got to do with the way one individual conducts himself. And that’s embarrassing.”
This was not the first time Popovich had slammed Trump.
“I’m still sick to my stomach,” Popovich said after Trump’s win in November. “Not basically because the Republicans won or anything, but the disgusting tenor and tone and all the comments that have been xenophobic, homophobic, racist, misogynistic, and I live in that country where half the country ignored all that to elect someone. That’s the scariest part of the whole thing to me.”
Popovich, 68, is not your average basketball coach. After graduating from the Air Force Academy in 1970 with a degree in Soviet studies, he worked as an intelligence officer in Eastern Europe for five years.

Woman washes vagina with mint and tea tree shower gel, instantly regrets all her life choices
A woman has shared a hilarious rant after using mint and tea tree shower gel, which promptly set her vagina “ablaze”.
SEE ALSO: There’s a museum for penises, but not for vaginas, yet that could change
Her rant — posted on her Facebook page I Know, I Need To Stop Talking — has captured the attention of hundreds of thousands of people, gaining 147K shares and 116K likes.
In the post, the anonymous blogger said she had run out of her usual bottle of shower gel, so she grabbed the nearest thing to hand, a bottle of Original Source tea tree and mint shower gel
She said all was going well in her “positively first class bathing experience” until something rather unusual happened.
“Oh. Dear. God. MY VAGINA WAS ABLAZE. For a moment, I wasn’t entirely sure what had happened. Had I repeated the never to be forgotten error when I managed to apply hair removal cream which was strictly not for front bottoms to my front bottom?” she wrote.  Read more…

Is There A Difference Between The Sexes When It Comes To Fitness?
function onPlayerReadyVidible(e)'undefined'!=typeof HPTrack&&HPTrack.Vid.Vidible_track(e)!function(e,i)if(e.vdb_Player)if('object'==typeof commercial_video)var a='',o='m.fwsitesection='+commercial_video.site_and_category;if(a+=o,commercial_video['package'])var c='&m.fwkeyvalues=sponsorship%3D'+commercial_video['package'];a+=ce.setAttribute('vdb_params',a)i(e.vdb_Player)elsevar t=arguments.callee;setTimeout(function()t(e,i),0)(document.getElementById('vidible_1'),onPlayerReadyVidible);
There’s a blatant sexism in the fitness industry. One only has to look at fitness stock photos too see this blatant double standard between men and women. Women are treated like toned sex objects lifting small weights and doing simple exercises whereas men are depicted as hulking muscle bound super humans capable of doing anything. This view, while troublesome, is pretty common outside the fitness industry as well.
The predominant belief is that women have more trouble building muscle and staying toned than men. Or that certain types of exercise are reserved for certain genders. There are plenty of men who scoff at the idea of a pilates class or women who think lifting weights will come at the cost of their breast size.
So what’s the difference between the sexes when it comes to fitness and building muscle?
It seems there are none. YouTuber and fitness guru Jeff Nippard’s new video showcases just how wrong all of these preconceptions are. His science based argument uses basic human physiology to break down preconceptions about the relationship between fitness and gender.
Nippard finds women have a natural potential to build muscle just like men. In fact, men and women have the exact same growth potential when it comes to strength training. Nippard does highlight the fact that women start out smaller with lower muscle mass. So it’s only natural that they have a smaller (starting) muscle mass but that’s it.
The truth is that sex and fitness have a correlation but the relationship is much more complex than a lack of strength. So, with all the nuances in mind, let’s refuse the gender bias in fitness. Maybe then the culture will become a little more welcoming to newcomers.
