Founded in 1994, Step Afrika! is a professional dance company that highlights the connections between stepping and African dance.

The company’s mission is to “preserve, expand and promote an appreciation for stepping through professional performances and to educate, motivate, and inspire young people in and out of school through arts education programs that emphasize stepping’s core values of teamwork, commitment and discipline.”

You really have to see Yamashita’s work to understand how truly awesome it is.

In this 2018 piece, “Profile,” Yamashita usesa series of letters and numbers, illuminated by a single light, to project a shadow, silhouetted profile. Awesome.

From the exhibit: “The shadow of a man’s profile emerges from a windswept assortment of letters and numbers mounted to a wall. … [T]he composition suggests the juxtaposition between our inner selves and the daily onslaught of information we must process”.

Her work is absolutely awesome.

Various pieces from this series (and others) were recently on exhibit at the Wichita Museum of Art in Kansas (USA), the Chimei Museum in Tainan City (Taiwan), the Birmingham Museum of Art in Alabama (USA), and the Mississippi Museum of Art in Jackson, Mississippi (USA)–all in 2019.

She received her Master of Fine Arts Degree from Glasgow School of Art and her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle, Washington.

Award-winning gospel artist VaShawn Mitchell performs selections from his new album, Elements, for a live preview party at Sirius XM, August 2019.

The album has a definite “praise and worship” vibe, and each track is infused with story and message. Mitchell shares the message and inspiration for many of the songs during the Sirius preview event.

Elements was released on August 8, 2019, and is now widely available for purchasing and streaming.

Jim Hanft and Samantha Yonack are a husband-wife pop and alt rock duo. They released their debut EP, “This is What’s Left,” in 2015 and later signed to Nettwerk Music Group for the release of their 2019 EP, “Yeah Whatever Young Forever.”

The couple’s “ Anywhere Everywhere Tour” played a show every day for a year and is now the subject of a feature-length video documentary, “After So Many Days.”
