Sorry it’s early but you really can’t use fanfiction terms in a non fanfiction context like if someone is trying to sell me a book to read and they tell me there’s an enemy to lovers I would be annoyed because why are you spoiling the story lol

This excerpt from "The Poisoned Bowl: Sex and the Public School" on British public school "legends" reminds me so much of Ralph Lanyon (and Frank Maddox, who is name-dropped as a fictional example):

"It may seem a mathematical absurdity which defies the laws of proportionality, but almost without exception each boarding school, whether it was large or small, produced every year exactly one boy of exceptional magnetism who became a legend. This hero was not, like many others, merely the jealously-guarded secret desire of one or two boys but rather a cult figure whom almost all boys adored. He was invariably of exceptional good looks and an outstanding sportsman. Sometimes he was also academically brilliant. More often he was academically average, but of greater import was his charm, his charisma, and his apparent indifference to success; a convincing combination of character traits that could win over even the most cynical of minds. ... The school hero had to be a great all-rounder and could never be seen to try too hard. He had to be the casual collector of trophies, someone who played any sport with a refrained but skilful grace....Most boys were glad just to have the privilege of observing such a legendary figure from a distance. I’ve read so many fics, that aren’t as popular, that are so professionally written that I immediately know the authors even know the characters better than their original creators, respectfully. and so many of those fics made me cry and I’ve always come back to reread them because they’re that good, even if they don’t reach many people. they’re literally in my heart and I even think about them during the day because they’re that special to me.

the bottom line: the number of kudos and hits do not represent whether the work is good or bad.

and if you’re an author, don’t let it discourage you if you think your works don’t get enough hits or kudos.

sometimes the best fics that have ever been written are like a rare treasure, not many people will find them, but I promise you, those who do will cherish them very dearly ♡

He slept, curled like a kitten, his brow nearly touching mine, on the other end of his pallet. His breathing was deep and even, and one long hand was palm up on the blankets between us, as if in offering, or beseeching something of me. Sleepily I reached over and set my hand in his. He did not seem to wake. Strangely, I felt at peace.
