Kind of a Reddit AITA post but sometimes it is a little funny to fuck with people in ways that deliberately conform to a stereotype of what they must think of you. the other day I was talking to my friend and I randomly said that I wanted a pet chimpanzee. I'd dress it in person clothes (dungarees and hats) and I'd teach it to love science fiction. And this girl nearby was like "you know how dangerous those things are, right? Also how unethical it is to keep an ape as your pet for your own amusement" and I was already seeing where the conversation was going so I was pretending ignorance like "yea but it wouldn't just be for my amusement. It would have practical points too." And she ignored that statement entirely to say "Well chimpanzees can rip faces off" and I was like. What's the most frustrating thing I can say now. Finally settled on "Mine wouldn't do that though." and you could tell she wanted to hurt me very very badly. Like a chimpanzee would if I had one as a pet

The funny thing is that I can fully see where a lot of very dumb discourse on this site came from but it doesnt make it any less perplexing

Man if you did that bullshit as a kid where you fake asked someone out to embarrass them or said your friend liked them I hope that shit haunts you somewhere inside now. I hope you know that never leaves the person you did that too. I've been out of school for 8 blessed fucking years and I still do not believe people when they say they like me or are attracted to me. Doing that shit straight up makes you a bad person. You completely destroy someone's ability to perceive themselves as loveable.

Complaining about posts that are too long, on the long posting website, which has had "shorten long posts" as a default setting for years now, is a fascinating insight into the lived experience of a type of mind. A person has to have gone out of their way to encounter a solution to their problem, remove it, and then get annoyed that removing the built in problem solver resulted in encountering the specific problem.

It's kind of the g-rated version of logging into the x-rated porn site and then complaining about all the nudity. It's the soft gloves equivalent of going out to a pride parade to be scandalized by the queers. The kind of person that goes camping and is outraged by bugs. What a life to live. You go to the car, put all the windows down, get mad at the wind. Turn off every ad blocker and complain about the youtube commercials. Imagine waking up every day, turning on the coffee machine, then removing the pot from it and being outraged at coffee all over your counter. Take off your sunglasses and stare at the sun, get mad at it for shining. 17,000 people and counting agree it's annoying that turning off the feature to shorten posts means seeing really long posts. Like a mass shared experience of collectively taking off the oven mitts, getting burned by the hot pan, and complaining about the stove.
