Flower Petals

If flower petals tell a story—whether it’s loves me or loves me not—what would be the outcome of the ones that fall along the path to your altar?

Are you marrying the right girl?

How many times did you think it could’ve been me instead of her?

Doesn’t that say something to you?

You might think I’m foolish and say — first loves don’t change people — but you know that’s not true.

You remember everything: the butterflies in your stomach, the relief you felt every time a fight ended, and all the kisses — from good morning to goodbye.

You invited me to your wedding, but you knew I wouldn’t show up.

How could I watch rose petals fall toward you,

if I’m not the one walking down that path?
