So, I don’t know if you remember this, but a while back you messed around with the idea of My Hero’s story structure flowing in a structure more like an American cartoon.

How would the League be in this framework? With the whole “one big-bad story arc per season”, would each League member have their own season? Dabi having a whole season dedicated to him and the Todoroki family?

hello!! i'm so surprised to see this message but yes i do remember talking about that!! i've come across that post every now and then when hunting thru the archives of this blog. i am a little embarrassed to get a message about it though bc the most time passes the less i enjoy the fact that i posted it (post in question for full transparency). i'm still a big fan of american cartoons and think the merits of both formats + how bnha could function as a semi-syndicated american cartoon are worth discussing but i don't like how i was basically saying i'd prefer bnha in the western animation clean seasonal arc format to dog on the way the story was unfolding at the time. i cringe!!!

having witnessed how bnha played out it is very clearly a part of horikoshi's vision that EVERYTHING is happening at once - people all over the world face quirk discrimination and everyone relies too much on pro heroes to save the day and a lot of those future pros are children and will push themselves too far and the league is rising and the legacy of one for all s reaching its final stage and every individual arc reaches its boiling point out on the battlefield at the same moment. i still think the transitions into the war arcs are clumsy but making EVERYONE face their big emotional climax RIGHT THERE in hindsight really shows how they can't run away from all the ways hero society has gone wrong and from their individual problems. some change HAS to happen and it's gonna happen now

WHICH IS TO SAY i think breaking up all those arcs into seasonal hyperfocused storylines would just make bnha a totally different series w a totally different message. but since the discussion question is, what would those arcs look like if bnha were a completely different series that functioned like teen titans 2003 (definitely the cartoon i was thinking about back then!! i think it's western animation's closest bnha analog)! it's very easy to say that horikoshi's vision of how the todoroki family arc plays out - w the emphasis placed on shouto and endeavor's individual arcs and dabi and rei not getting their fair share of narrative space - is not its ideal form, and dedicating more time to it could've given each character more grace in dealing w their feelings. i also think one of the most glaring examples of a character who could've used more narrative space ironically is deku himself in the series' final act. midoriya really suffered from the ensemble cast focus in the epilogue bc w how many characters' stories needed wrapping up, he barely gets a say in where his future goes. having followed him for years and years it's sort of funny that the confirmation that he's both a full-time teacher and mostly full-time pro hero neck in neck w bkg on the charts comes from one panel from a fanbook bonus oneshot. so more pluses and minuses of such congested storytelling

were bnha a goofy, heartful semi-syndicated american cartoon i don't think it'd be a stretch to say that each season's main villain would likely drop out of the league and join the heroes at UA (thus giving us half a season of episodes exploring toga's relationships with her brand new best friends - which i also think undercuts the sadness/meaning in her canon arc re-finding acceptance in the league when she couldn't anywhere else hahaha - and also the importance of shigaraki and spinner's relationship - etc etc) THUS impacting the progression of the plot significantly. my most realistic pitch for how that'd go would be the league falling off one by one, the last member driven off by shigaraki's AFO-fueled transformation into something not quite himself, and the final season is largely class 1a dealing w AFO head-on, leading up to deku's big fight w shigaraki at mt fuji - while unfortunately most of the rest of the cast stands at the sidelines bc their stories have wrapped up...although if it were the cheesiest of cheesy i would not be surprised if cartoon network's my hero academia wrapped up with every student in class 1a coming together and wielding the power of one for all - truly one for all!! - to put both ofa and afo to an end

this answer is way more rambly and wishy washy than i expected but since you so kindly asked, that's how i think it would go! but again when typing the original post what i was really craving was more time for slice-of-life episodic stories w the larger extended cast. i cringe a little at the examples i came up with hahaha but i think the existence of spinoffs like team up mission proves that the people do want more class 1a stories. the nature of the mediums is just so different so in conclusion i really am thankful for all the side media and the random character tidbits and interactions that have come from there!

Apparently bkg and kiri are still good friends in the future, seeing him having shotgun and eating in bkg's car?(He is so pretty too <3 my baby's face card and big lashes never declained hell yeah) they are besties :') knew they were hanging out and doing their thing "behind cameras" im so happy for that that's all i wanted at this point.

HELLO!!! i'm back from months of silence on this blog!!! thank you for the message, i hope you're doing well! i live in shock and awe that krbk's deep, inexplicable friendship was confirmed all the way up to the end of the end!!

i somehow managed to delete twitter JUST before leaks hit but was still using other social media for another day or so, which is how i reblogged that art not knowing it was based in canon at all!! i even remember thinking "aw i'm happy pa/unchsalazar comes back to krbk every now and again". back in august i was underwhelmed w how cramped the original/"true" ending was, so i was really enthusiastic abt an epilogue that could give the characters (especially izuku) a little more time to speak. however in noooooooo way did i expect any sort of krbk interactions, let aloooone to the extent that we got!!

my own personal krbk anniversary (january 15th!!) came around this year for the 7th time - i have always been mega mega deep into krbk but this chapter really threw me for a loop. hopefully this stays in my krbk tumblr containment chamber but i think realistically this is the most krbk ending we could've gotten so in my heart i kind of see them as supported by canon. and if that sounds far fetched then let's get into the question of what is krbk anyways? an anime ship? a "bond between equals"? a strong friendship between two boys that, no matter how far their stories converge, always gets circled back to? i think honestly the gray area of them having a really admirable friendship that also makes you think "if they're just friends then what the fuck is going on" has always been part of why i like them so much and what is more "what the fuck is going on" than bakugou using the kanji from kirishima's hero name in his own hero title, despite all language norms and for no feasible reason. their weird friendship grew up with them. i love them.

i agree that lol i am going to miss the distinct lovable flavor of mid that bnha provided - that really hit me in the chapter where deku finds uraraka on the cliff and calls her his hero, then the entire class finds and joins them. it's equally odd and pleasant imo that bnha has been winding down as i've been preparing to leave japan. i feel really lucky to have been here for most of the wind down and to have gotten to buy its very last chapter in jump and visited a lot of the victory-lap events - on that note here's a picture of when i got to take krbk to the tokyo tower collab:

(the tokyo tower collab is the source of this character art and alongside lots of merch and collab drinks the main event was a "mystery game" where you solve a packed of puzzles using clues on the character standees scattered around the tower. i found it totally delightful and also really challenging at times - i partnered up with another foreigner girl and we muscled through the final stage together and still needed the help of a verrrry kind staff woman to complete it)

...and i'm going to try to make it to as many events as i can before my time is through!! next weekend i'm attending my first doujinshi market!! and a lot of krbk artists i've known for a long time are gonna be there!! in that same weekend i also want to check off the tokyo skytree collab. it's funny because i was never interested at all in going to tokyo tower or skytree but then randomly because of bnha i'll be knocking them both out in the span of 2 months. lol. i'm also really excited to go to the final art exhibition and will report back on if bakugou "gets too shy to talk about kirishima" in the audio narration this time around

that ended up mostly being about me and my life but seriously thank you for the message!! i hope you're doing so well!! i really love this revived era of krbk the epilogue has thrown us into and i wish a very prosperous february of krbk to all of y'all with all the art and fics people have so lovingly been posting. as of this afternoon i'm done with my grad school apps so now i can tackle the wips i've had sitting in my drive since this summer!! and hopefully be back to talk to y'all soon!!! if anyone is still reading i'd love to know what you've been up to and what krbks thoughts have been on your mind. and other than that i really do hope you have a nice day!

thankfully i haven’t seen that but it does remind me of a personal anecdote - when i was 16 and was super into the anisong cover youtube community, there was this other teenage guy who ran a gaming/reaction(?) channel and started dming me a lot on twitter. we were chatting for a while but then i started feeling weird about the attention so i stopped responding but he’d still dm me every few months like “hey how are you doing! i’ve been good, my channel actually reached 40k subscribers haha! i see your channel grew too, nice!”. THEN a couple years ago i remembered him and got curious and it turned out that somewhere along the line his channel turned into a 360 pov bnha boys x reader vr video channel. so in an odd way our ships kinda crossed in the night again
