Pros and cons of being a professional athlete?

It's Ei-lidh" The correction is quick and insistent but not rude, born out of years spent living in England and long recognising the squint and hesitation her name brought long before any mangled attempts at it came. "Like ceilidh but without the C" The second clarification something more like an error, long since remembered as part of the routine even long after she had learned the futility of it. How many people round these parts really knew what a ceilidh was? The familiar routine finally topped off with the statement that tended to head off any more questions at the pass. "It's Scottish Gaelic" Almost defensively said, that, taken in partnership with her accent, tended to settle the matter.

As he mentions the offending ankle, it's almost a reflex reaction in Eilidh to flex it, wincing with the pain it brought. "Aye, aye" Grimacing not just at the pain but at all the fuss over such a simple accident. "Took a bit've a nasty tumble in training. I play football see, but the medical team there like pulled me off the pitch and had me ice it an' that. But then I only went and decked it doon a few stairs when I was gettin' home" She'd been walking through the pain all the while, so obviously there wasn't anything seriously wrong. "A wouldn't have came in or nothin' but the teams on at me to treat any wee niggle like so" With a shrug, she gestured around her, at where she currently was. A&E. All over a twisted ankle. "Here am are"

"Like a five maybe? It's no headsplittin' or nothing but it's obviously no happy with me" At least sat here on the bed now it was, the sharp pains from earlier and from when she'd tried to both walk and run on the injury giving way now to a dull, but persistent, ache.

“Eil.. Eldi.. Ellie?” Jules looks up from the clipboard tacked to the end of the hospital bed with a sigh of resignation, hands tucked into the depths of his lab coat. It’s hour nine of his twelve hour shift in the A&E, and consequently Jules’ grasp on the conundrum that is the English language is slipping gradually from his hands. Longingly he lets his thoughts stray to the coffee machine parked in the staff room three floors above their heads - access to which has, throughout his shift, been continuously blocked and prevented by the never-ending slew of patients.

“You’ve come in because you’ve twisted your ankle?” Another quick glance at the patient information sheet confirms as much, further informing Jules that Ellie is, apparently, an extra special patient who is to be treated with utmost care and offered only the finest luxuries and comforts St Mary’s has to offer. She is also not to be passed off to any of the first year interns, no matter how great the temptation.

“Can you tell me what happened?” Approaching the bed after drawing the privacy curtains on all four sides, Jules helps himself to a fresh pair of gloves before leaning over to briefly examine the ankle in question. It looks swollen and angrily bruised, but not broken. "On a scale of one to ten, how much pain are you in right now?"
