Shadowdark is a ttrpg about going into dungeons to fight monsters.

I'd like to get into tabletop RPGs but I'm not sure if there's a game for the specific type of experience I want: I'd like a game that centers around adventurers going into dangerous underground places to fight monsters and seek treasure and perhaps grow stronger in the process. Not sure if such a thing exists.

I'm pretty sure you can homebrew Vampire: The Masquerade to accomplish this.

Another option: Here's Some Fuckin' DND has the basics needed for a dnd like story, but the rules are super simplified. Great for getting out of its own way. Also full of f-bombs and your mom jokes, to appeal to college dudes.

it's that time of year when countless people in countless schools and universities start thinking about running a d&d night, and I'm here to tell you: that's the devil talking. listen, I play a lot of games, D&D among them, and I run a LOT of events for college students. what you want is a game with dirt simple mechanics, character creation that can be completed in about a minute or less, and a contingency plan to split your attendees into groups if too many of them show up to reasonably play together. maybe something that doesn't even have dice idk. I'm not being a buzzkill I SWEAR I'm sincerely trying to save you from the horrors of a D&D night where 20 people show up and half of them have level 20 characters packing 16 magic items and a bad case of Main Character Syndrome and the other half are going to need to spend 45 minutes making their first character sheet ever. just play a different game man.

If I was tall I'd dress in white instead of black, wearing gold instead of silver. Rinse and condition my hair with something that makes the shade slightly blonder, in a natural way, instead of dyeing it stark jet black. Instead of moths, moons and stars, I'd wear jewelry with gold pendants of wings, feathers, swords, and eyes. Absurd amounts of eyes. A white leather jacket with a ring of gold and ink-blue eyes embroidered in a circle on my back. Wearing a perfume of ozone, petrichor and metal notes, a smell of a fresh storm, iron and blood, but in a way that's unsettlingly clean.

An unnerving impression of a biblical angel. A force of good that might not think you are good, a messenger of a god that does not love you. A presence so overwhelming, massive and imposing that you're surprised that a person like that can fit inside a room, and can use normal-sized furniture like regular people do.

But that would require me to be more than 5'6"

it's actually kind of crazy that everyone is sorted into 2 arbitrary categories at birth that supposedly predicts every single one of ur interests, skills, and personality traits throughout the next 80-90 years. and if, at any point in your life, you decide you don't really like this chosen-for-you persona, and you feel bad about being forced to act like it anyway, this is actually a diagnosable mental disorder in the DSM and half the country kinda wants you to die for "having" it. like personally I don't think there's anything mysteriously wrong with a trans kid's brain just because some doctor wasn't able to fortune tell that kid's life by reading the shape of their junk like tea leaves. you know?
