Let’s Hug Yusaku 2021
Tumblr media
We sure did!
Welcome to round two of Hugsaku, everyone! For those who missed it the first time, it’s simply a six-day fan event for writers, artists, cosplayers, and headcanon-ers alike to show a lot love for the protagonist of Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS, Fujiki Yusaku, in the form of hugs! Considering the events of the finale, he needs it more than ever and any media you wish to portray that and help contribute to the Yusaku Hug Fund is accepted!
Once again, there’s only one rule of Hugsaku.
1. Any work produced for the event must contain Yusaku receiving hugs in some form.
And those can be in any form you want! Fluffy cuddles, sad cuddles, silly cuddles, lewd cuddles, some other fifth type of cuddle, etc… Just make sure to tag your work appropriately! Whether it be romantic, platonic, familial, or otherwise, all will be accepted along with any pairing you fancy!
I have taken the liberty of updating the Rules to account for the new event days as well as the Themes/Prompts page with a brand new set of ideas! You are not under any obligation to use them, but if you need an idea, please do! I have also kept the 2019 themes up on the Themes/Prompts page and you are welcome to use those as well!
Anyway, here are the following new prompts!
Day 1: Silly | Locked in A Room and You Can’t Leave Until You Hug | Fake Dating | Hugtacles | “We should hug to avoid suspicion.”
Day 2: Don’t Touch Me  | Cathartic Hugging | “I don’t want your help!”
Day 3: Things You Said In A Dream | Wonderland | Sleep Hug | “It’s going to be cold tonight, so I hope it’s alright that we share a bed.“
Day 4: Crossover | Skipping Across Dimensions | “I don’t know where you’re from but would you like to stay a while?”
Day 5: Surprise Hugs | Awkward Hugs | Dueling But The Final Blow Is A Hug | “I know you’re in there! Wake up!”
Day 6: Touch-starved | Lean Into | Seeking Shelter | “I’d like to formally propose that you hug me.”
The event will run from February 23rd to the 28th and the official tags are also #Hugsaku and/or #Hugsaku2021.
Late submissions will be accepted and I will reblog every submission I see, but if for some reason I miss it (and it happens), send me a private message either here, my main account, or @ me in my Discord server! Twitter works, too!
If anyone has any question, let me know in whichever way works best for you and I’ll answer as soon as I’m able!
Til next time~!

Yu-gi-oh! egyptian headdresses
In Yu-Gi-Oh! Millenium World, we come across various ancient egyptian characters wearing different headdresses. For these, Kazuki Takahashi let his imagination loose although we can see egyptian influence in some designs.
First, egyptian headdresses are used by gods, kings, and royal women, not by the general population who had either wigs (mostly richer, wealthier people) or their natural hair.
Thus, among Atem’s courtiers, only Shadah and Karim are close to Ancient Egyptian traditions.
Shadah has his hair shaven which is typical of Egyptian priest of the New Kingdom and later periods.
Karim wears a mid-length wig which is fine. But he also wears a gold headban around his head which looks more or less like the seshed crown worn by kings and royal women.
Tumblr media
Karim, a seshed crown found at Dra Abu el-Naga (~1650 bc), elite Egyptians with no headban for the male (tomb of Ramose, 18th dynasty)
Mahad wears a veil to cover his long hair. Egyptian males didn’t grow their hair long and didn’t cover them either. Mahad also wears a little sundisk between two cow horns which is the typical headwear of the goddess Hathor, also worn by queens…
Mahad is actually Atem’s queen. We’ve finally figured it out XD.

Seto wears a blue headdress which could be inspired by the pharaohs’ khepresh crown (even though the shape is all wrong). He also wears a snake-uraeus on his forehead which is the king’s most sacred symbol. Only the king and a few royal women are aloud to wear it.
Seto wants power, we all know that XD.

Isis covers her hair under a veil (that she shouldn’t have) and also wears the head of a falcon on her forehead with its ‘wings’ surrounding her face. This is probably inspired by another of the queen’s headwear: a vulture with its wings spread around the face.
The vulture headdress is usually associated with motherhood so Isis could be, in fact, Atem’s mum XD. Or the mother to his children…

Atem’s ‘crown’ is designed after the eye of Udjat wich is an egyptian symbol for protection. It is especially worn among the commoners in jewels (necklaces, bracelets…). It isn’t specific to royalty and never used on crowns.
All in all, Atem’s court has got their headwear all mingled up.

Atem’s earrings
Egyptian art never show pharaohs wearing earrings. In a more broader context, egyptian reliefs don’t show grown adult egyptian men wearing earrings either (with a few rare exceptions).
However, as stated by Kazuki Takahashi, Atem was inspired a lot from Tutankhamun and his treasure; and beautiful earrings were found in Tutankhamun’s tomb, revealing that he might had actually worn earrings at some point in his life.
Tumblr media
But looking more carefully at egyptian reliefs, one can see that on some very rare occasions young princes or child-kings are pictured wearing earrings as opposed to adult royal men that did not (which might explain why child-king Tutankhamun had so many earrings).
Pharaoh Ramesses II depicted as a child-king and wearing earrings, Louvre Museum.

Therefore, earrings when worn by males were worn during childhood and they were mostly a symbol of royalty and youth. I’m sure at 16, Atem shouldn’t be wearing earrings anymore but I guess we can still view him as a child-king.

Vrains Theory: Yusaku is Hades and Ai is Persephone
Now, as we all know, Yu-Gi-Oh! has always loved making references to ancient Greece and the Roman Empire; from the Atlantis plot in DM, Johan and the Crystal Beasts in GX, Crow from 5Ds being implied to be Icarus, Alito’s past life in the gladiatorial arenas in Zexal and even Rejii’s monsters from Arc-V. Vrains seems to have the most of these Greek references though, with the Titan Atlas appearing in the Writing Life Ending, the Ignis being named after the fire that the Titan Prometheus stole from the Gods to give to humans and Revolver creating Pandor(a) to end the Ignis being the most obvious ones.
But last night when I was speaking with a few friends (@ina-bon, @bonebreakjack, @authoratmidnight and @wizqevelynart) we ended up theorizing that the symbolism and similarities with Greek Mythology run deeper than I once thought. The biggest take away I found was that Yusaku had to be Hades, King of the Underworld and Ai was Persephone, Queen of the Dead and Goddess of Spring.
The first thing me and my friends noticed was that the Titan Cronos had 6 (Vrain’s special number) children: Hades, Zeus, Poseidon, Demeter, Hestia and Hera. Hades was the God of the Underworld, so he was always in darkness. Zeus was the God of Lightening. Poseidon was the God of the Sea. Demeter was the Goddess of Harvest and most foods do grow in the Earth. Hestia is the Goddess of the Hearth, which is a fireplace in the home. And some scholars believe that Hera’s name is derived from an ancient word for “Air” or “Wind”.
Now, the first instinct would then be to think that the Ignis are meant to represent the 6 Godly Children that Cronos had, especially considering how Zeus/Lightening’s behavior/reprogramming caused Hera/Windy to act out and murder humans in his name, even though they were once fairly chill.
But one of my friends reached a different conclusion: that the Lost Kids were the Gods.
