It's such a fun book, and I also genuinely didn't see the twist of who the murderer was coming either, but I thought the twist with who Cousin Porsena was was really interesting too.
I think the continuation of the Civil War in A Romance in Twelve Parts is interesting too (especially that pope hiring a vampire as an assassin, then getting excommunicated for it, I thought that was funny), although I'm not sure if I like how it ends based on that story, I hope it's resolved in the anthology series.
I think the anthology series will be fun to read when I finally get around to it, I just need to actually buy them
Okay I'm gonna talk about Of the City of the Saved for the minute. It is a Faction Paradox book set in, basically, the afterlife - called here the City of the Saved. The conceit is that every human who ever was was resurrected in a city the size of a galaxy at the end of time where they are effectively immortal. There are three plotlines running concurrently, with them intertwining constantly and all coming together at the end. We have:
the murder mystery of Councilor Mostyn, with half of the mystery being "how the fuck did this guy die in the afterlife?"
the search for Lon Shel, a young woman who has seemingly vanished from the City
the investigation of the Manfolk, a posthuman group who's district in the city is ground zero for an unknown anomaly.
It's a great mystery - I did not see who the murderer was until the reveal, but it's stupidly obvious in retrospect, but I wanna take a moment to talk about the cast of characters. Because this book bounces between the perspectives of a bunch of different people encompassing all of the variations of humanity, including:
Laura Tobin, originally a security guard from the 26th century. She is the primary person investigating the murder, and is the main character of that plotline.
Julian White Mammoth Tusk, a former caveman who is now a full citizen of the City. Lon Shel is his girlfriend, and Julian is the main character for her plotline.
Lucillius Urbanus Ignotus, who was born in the City and has never known life outside it. His ancestors were, in life, powerful people in the Roman Empire, and are now the most powerful people in the Romuline District in the City. He is the main character in the investigating-the-Manfolk plotline
Professor Anthony Fisher, a professor at a major university, and originally from the 20th century
Ludmilla and Dedalus, two slaves owned by the Romans
Councilor Allisheer St Marx, the wife of Professor Fisher and one of the most powerful politicians of the City, who originally lived some thirty thousand years in the future. Befriended a renegade Time Lord during her life, and they kept in contact after her death.
Mesh Cos, the last posthuman to ever exist, and the mother of Lon Shel
Rick Kithred, Tobin's neighbor and sometimes friend
Tiresias, another slave owned by the Romans who has some personal motivations regarding the Manfolk investigation
Professor Melicia Clutterbuck, a city-born academic (and lightly implied associate of the Doctor) leading a rescue mission for some of her students kidnapped in the conflict unfolding with the Manfolk
Godfather Avatar, one of the leaders of Faction Paradox (a time travel anti-Gallifreyan cult) in the City, and the person who asks Tobin to investigate the murder
Cousin Porsena, a member of Faction Paradox and a prisoner in an unknown location
Gnas Gortine, a remake (basically a fictional character made real) and leader of a Manfolk sect that desires to end the forced nonviolence of the city
Little Brother Edward, a remake with a massive identity crisis, and a recent recruit into Faction Paradox
Kyme Janute, a Manfolk politician opposed Gortine
Compassion III, Tobin's once removed... clone(ish), who is working as a television commentator
And, btw, I left out one very important perspective character for spoiler reasons and lied (and/or gave some very intentional omissions) multiple times for the same cause.
I loved this book. I love the scale of it. I love how well developed most of its cast is. I love how human it is.

sorta funny how many cis people seem to think being an ally just means like. not actively commiting hate crimes. "i'm an ally i'm just worried that hrt is dangerous and i dont like when they shove pride right in our faces and i think all this sjw stuff in movies is unrealistic and im worried about the children-" okay. so i dont think you know what that word means,

What to do if your account gets wrongfully terminated
So by now most of you have probably heard that my account was suddenly terminated (aka banned) on Saturday afternoon. I’m back now, and since I had to do some digging into this on my own, I figured I’d make a post for others to reference.
How to tell if you’ve been wrongfully terminated
You will find yourself suddenly locked out of your account. For me, I had just made a post when I got kicked to the login screen. My password wouldn’t work, so I tried to reset it, at which point I got this screen:
Tumblr media
Now, if Tumblr legitimately terminated your account - meaning, you broke a rule and they banned you for it - they should send you an email telling you why. So, immediately check your email. If you don’t get anything, it was probably a glitch. These happen shockingly often, so there’s a whole process to it.
How to get your account back
First, submit a support ticket. Tumblr’s support email does NOT work, you MUST go through their site. Select ‘Terminated account’. Write a POLITE message explaining the situation. Describe what you were doing when you suddenly got kicked off, and state that to the best of your knowledge, you haven’t broken any rules, or that if you did, you would be willing to delete the offending posts. Include your url and email.
Check your email. You should immediately get an automatic message saying they’re looking into the problem. If you don’t that means that Tumblr marked your email as spam (because they banned you). If you need to, resend the ticket using a different email address at the bottom. Explain that your account email doesn’t seem to be going through and that’s why you’re using a different one.
Wait. Tumblr Support’s hours of operation are 9-5 EST, Monday through Friday. If, like me, you submitted your ticket on a weekend, you may be in for a wait. If you don’t get a response within 24 hours, DO NOT SEND ANOTHER TICKET, but instead reply to the email they sent you. I’ve seen it advised that you should send another ticket only if the problem isn’t fixed within the week.
Check you url often. Tumblr will likely never respond to your email letting you know what happened or that you’ve been reinstated. Check your url every so often, and if it finally loads as your blog (instead of the ‘There’s nothing here’ screen) you are free to log back in.
And that’s it! If it was a glitch, they SHOULD reinstate your account, but you MUST submit a support ticket letting them know what’s going on.

sorry if i'm gonna be quiet for a while. my country recently introduced laws that make it so that in order to use social media to the fullest (not being able to view ns/fw content and in a few cases, not even having access to dms), i HAVE to give the sites my id/face scan.
it goes into effect july 25th. it'll probably effect here too, since this place allows mature content (tho not full on ns/fw)
i'm very distressed about it bc i might end up not even being able to talk to my internet friends. i don't really have any irl ones
if i have to disappear on most socials by then, you know why.

Hi I'm helping with this person's campaign on Gaza!! If you can share or donate is appreciated!!!
Tumblr media
The image expresses the contrast between the security and peace that people long for, and the reality of war and suffering. At the top, simple yet great desires appear: "I am tired and all I want is sleep," "a good meal," and "a soft bed." These are the desires of someone living a normal life. At the bottom, the bitter reality of people living in darkness amidst destruction, fire, and hunger is shown. The text says: "I am tired and all I want is for this war to end and for peace to return to give them peace of mind again." Donate here to give them peace of mind. Sami's family is in dire need of your donation, even if it is small. Donate anything again, anything. (Gaza in Danger)

LUX IS NOT AN EVIL GOD, CONFIRMED
If you haven’t read Lux by James Goss yet, In the novel, there’s a whole chapter dedicated to Lux’s point of view.
And what it discusses is… quite interesting for a god. The following screenshots are from the novel
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Based on the chapter, Lux did not have any original malicious intentions. He entered the theater because he wanted to be worshipped by the people (which, understandable. He’s a god, after-all).
He only trapped the victims because he wanted what they had, life. And he didn’t know how to obtain that.
He also only “became evil” because the Doctor and Belinda refused to worship him and decided to fight back, which upset him.
Lux also had Reginald play movies for him because they made him feel warm on the inside. He even learned the waltz that Reginald and his wife did nightly to try and mimic the love they had.
All Lux wanted was to feel loved and worshipped by people. He wanted to feel alive instead of cold on the inside.
So ladies and gentleman of the jury, Lux is NOT an evil god. He just went the wrong way about solving his problems.

Have you ever thought about Jonny pitching Jmart to Alex? Like “you know how we each voice a character who is explicitly all the parts of ourselves we like the least turned up to 10?” “Yeah?” “We should make them kiss” “hell yeah”

Are you 🫵 pissed off about the Lilo and Stitch monstrosity remake? Do you want to know how you can actually make a difference in supporting the people and ecosystems of Hawaii?
Tourism is a big issue in Hawaii (which the remake got rid of the original's commentary on because it makes foreigners look bad). I'm not gonna promote it, BUT I know that realistically, thousands of people arrive here every single day by the airplane-ful. And the majority of them aren't educated on the socio-cultural and economic impacts of tourism. SO, I'm making this post in an effort to educate visitors. If you or someone you know is visiting or moving to Hawaii (whether by circumstances in or out of your control), here are some suggestions on how you can give back!
You can donate to the Hawaii Community Foundation, which has been instrumental in giving aid to the displaced community of Lahaina after the Maui wildfires in 2023. They also provide scholarships to students of under-represented communities.
If you're interested in visiting Kualoa Ranch, you can do their Mālama Experience where you get your hands dirty giving back to the ‘āina (land)!
There are other organizations you can join to volunteer with, too, like Kupu and Mālama Maunalua. Check them out; maybe you can help with a beach cleanup or plant native trees! These are both non-profit organizations that accept monetary donations.
Visit the Bishop Museum to learn about Hawaiian history and culture! They also have events focused on sustainability and conservation.
If you're visiting Hilo on the Big Island, go visit the Laulima Nature Center! They're a non-profit aimed at protecting Hawaii's native species, and they even have an online store that ships to the US mainland and internationally! (After I post this, I'm gonna head on over and get myself a manu o Kū pin ♡)
A few other tips I have:
DO: Respect the locals' homes. Several beaches and hiking trails have access points in residential areas. Please be mindful to keep your voices down when passing by, and park ONLY in designated parking areas.
DO: Wear reef-safe sunscreen! Sunscreens containing oxybenzone and octinoxate are banned in Hawaii because they are known to damage coral reefs.
DON'T: Approach wildlife, particularly honu (sea turtles) and 'īlio holo i ka uaua (Hawaiian monk seals). Stay at least 10 feet (3 meters) away from turtles and at least 50 feet (15 meters) away from monk seals. If you see someone harassing animals, report them to the statewide NOAA Marine Wildlife Hotline: (888) 256-9840. You can also contact the Hawaii State Department of Land and Natural Resources.
DON'T: Collect sand, rocks, or other natural items to bring home with you. This is to protect the ecosystems and also out of respect for Kānaka Maoli (Native Hawaiians), who have cultural beliefs regarding lava rocks in particular. Taking lava rocks is extremely disrespectful.
DON'T: Litter! Please throw away your waste in proper trash cans. If you see a bin that says "ʻōpala," that's a trash can!
Many Kānaka Maoli (Native Hawaiians) are moving to the US mainland because the cost of living in Hawaii has been driven up so high (because of people moving here), they can't afford to live in their ancestral home. So, if you are going to visit or move to Hawaii, please:
- Make the effort to support local businesses, especially those owned by Native Hawaiians!
- Educate yourself and your loved ones about actual Hawaiian culture!
- Try Hawaiian food, like poi!
- Learn some Hawaiian words and don't be afraid to ask how to pronounce words correctly!
- Donate to a food bank!
- Watch films and read books written by Native Hawaiians!
My hope is that whoever sees this post will use it to educate themselves, their friends, and their families who are considering visiting.
My background is in sustainability and the environment, so that's what I know to suggest off the top of my head. If any Kānaka Maoli read this post and have suggestions to add, please do!
