[INTRODUCTION]
Hello ~ My (preferred) name is Eli, my pronouns are they / she and I’m an aspiring illustrator; my dream jobs are to work in the animation/illustration industry and create illustrations for children’s books. As a queer non-binary artist, my biggest inspiration and motivation is to create work that represents the LGBTQ+ community. I also strive to create work related to feminism, BLM, mental health and other groups of people that deserve to have more positive rep in media. As an artist that has a platform on social media with the majority of my following being young queer artists, I feel it is important for me to be as open as possible, and give them the representation I never had growing up. My goal is to make these people feel understood and accepted. I have had a number of DMs from people expressing their gratitude and that I’ve helped them feel more comfortable with their identity. I hope to grow my platforms as time goes on and help more people.

Other things that inspire me:
-Cartoons (the owl house, she-ra, miraculous ladybug, steven universe, the arcane, etc.)
-games (genshin impact, honkai impact, stardew valley, the arcana, last legacy, identityV, etc)
-Music
-Books and graphic novels
-Other artists
-Everyday life and my personal experiences

digital illustration using procreate and clip studio paint.
time: 2h 46 mins
wanted to try drawing something more detailed (character is from the game ‘Genshin Impact’ - this game’s character design and fluid movements motivate me a lot as an artist)

Digital Illustration of the game character Galatea from IdentityV!!
This piece was drawn in Clip Studio Paint, I worked using three layers to challenge myself and I honestly love how it turned it! Since I drew this I’ve been using the same technique :) I’ll continue to push myself and work outside my comfort zone to develop my artstyle further 😎 Something to improve here would be to study face / skull structure (which I currently am, hopefully it will show in my future work) ]

[ Self directed Illustration (+process) of the game character Patricia Dorval from IdentityV.
For this drawing I stared with the sketch, lineart, base colour and then merged base and lineart together and added shadows / details on top of that one layer! (face and skin details done on the base layer prior to merging.👁👁) I really like how this turned out! I think using the ‘splatter’ brush for freckles was a cute idea too 😄👍 However looking back, I think giving her a bigger nose would look better. ]

[ A personal piece painted in procreate. Relating to a self directed series where I try visualise raw in the moment feelings.
This piece was the result of me experimenting and playing with different techniques and effects in the digital software procreate. I started by filling the background colour with a dark purple and then from there I created a colour pallet using complimentary colour theory, thought i did not entirely work just from these two shades, I also used purples and pinks to add more life to the painting. To draw this illustration I used a dry brush tool and started with basic shapes, background, perspective etc. I then built up detail using tones and shadows. After this I created a new layer and using a warm toned yellow shade I used the dry brush tool to paint where I wanted light to shine, focusing mainly on the inner body, paws, and flooring, I then duplicated this layer and using the 'bloom' option in 'edit' I made it so the yellow I just painted would glow, I then adjusted the layer and played around with different effects, I ended up saving a version using 'add' (left image) and one using 'overlay' (right image. I personally like both versions, for example, I like how the top version looks more soft and peaceful, however, I also like how rough and vibrant the bottom version looks. The meaning behind this illustration represents reflecting on the past; the stuffed bunny is a childhood toy I used to carry round everywhere...though after some years I completely forgot about it. There is a figure of a person hiding under the shelter of a cave, the ending of a tunnel ( tunnel has many paths that lead to different memories and experiences), this figure is meant to represent me in present day. The glowing from the stomach of the stuffed bunny symbolises a couple things; 'the light at the end of the tunnel' being one of them, the reason behind this is because through my teenage and young adult years I have felt lost and in the dark about a lot of things, somehow revisiting and reliving things I used to enjoy in my childhood has let me find the end of the tunnel in a way, although in the illustration the area is set in a cave with no end, this shows that my journey to find myself isn't over yet but the light will maybe help me navigate easier now.

[Fairy tale book cover concept for a college project titled ‘Lost & Found’.
digital illustration and layout painted in app Procreate. I then downloaded a free book template from the website graphicburger and edited the illustration onto the template using photoshop! I’m fairly proud of this outcome, however I would have liked to spent more time thinking about the context and maybe a story line for the book.
The illustration is an original piece i painted, it shows a girl lost in the woods using fireflies to light her path (in the og illustration, the light was glitched slightly, implying a more surreal encounter for the girl. This futuristic magical idea was ditched but I will show the painting below!) ]

[ ( self directed ) For these two pieces I chose to paint the singer 'Mitski" as her songs heavily inspire my more personal artworks, and since i’ve been creating work focusing on mental health I thought it would fit and help me move forward with new ideas. To create these I used two art programs; clip studio and then procreate to correct lighting and shadows. I used a reference photo for both and using the colour picker tool as a guide during the process to get as close to the real thing as possible. I used one layer and a dry brush tool to draw and build up details / tone, I then imported the painting into procreate and played around with layer options and saturation. I think both these paintings turned out well and I think there's clear development comparing the two pieces (bottom one was done 3 weeks prior to the top). I think my realism style is pretty cemented now, I hope that it’s something I can continue to develop and make recognisable. Her songs are heavily related to personal struggles and are very emotionally vulnerable, I will use this as inspiration in my own work and express it through paintings instead of music. ]

[ digital portrait of @/dian.hus on instagram.
drawn in procreate mainly using the ‘dry brush’ to give texture and create a more traditional drawing illusion.
I think this piece turned out pretty well, I wanted to experiment with colourful highlights/ lighting and I think it worked! To improve I will consider giving the final piece a more ‘finished’ look perhaps? though I personally like the messy finish. I also will work on drawing detailed background…
This is a piece from a college project ‘Inside Outside’ ]

[ annotations:
(right) For this experiment I used red ink as a background, then once dried I drew onto it with a black acrylic marker and white ball point pen. I like how this turned out although it wasn’t my intention to make the final result look so worn out. From this experiment I have learn’t acrylic markers + thick ink don’t work well together.
(left) In this piece I used yellow ink as a background and sketched a possum using a 0.3 marker, I wanted to see how fine liners would react to the inked background since I found out acrylic pens don’t stick well ]
Tumblr media
[ For these two ink pieces I used photographs from my visual diary as reference. I placed paper (gently) on top of the inked plate and using my photo references I drew out the images using the end of a pen. I like how the right drawing turned out because of the clear lines. To improve the left piece, I should’ve used less ink and applied less pressure while drawing (something I considered more when making the right piece)
