I was expecting the How To Train Your Dragon books to be good, but I didn't expect to be shaken to my core by the end of the serie like I am. Like. Woaw. The story. The characters. The themes. I just love everything about these books.

That dreadful feeling knowing that Furious was right about humanity being unable to change, and history being doomed to repeat itself. Ain't we seeing that happening right now with the state of the current world. But also the hopeful feeling that Hiccup was right too to stand for peace and a better future. Wether that future will last or not, as long as you try your best to make it eventually happens.

Hiccup at the beginning of every book : Something horrible happened when I was a boy, back when dragons still roamed around the world. After all those years, I am still deeply traumatised and literally shaking right now.

Chapter 1 : I was being miserable and then shit happened.

Love how the twins threats to Bill are equally terrifying in their own way : Dipper using serious threats with a serious tone, as in "I'm gonna kill you and you're going to hate it" while Mabel is saying it with an innocent and smiling tone, as in "I'm gonna kill you and I'm going to love it".

Basically:

Dipper : You tried to kill my sister, so I'm gonna tear your angles apart and crush them into your crying eye. >:|

Mabel : You tried to kill my brother, so I'm gonna eat you alive :)

Like, the energy is so different, but it comes from the same hatred.

as funny as everything is, i really am genuinely impressed and honestly really grateful for how bill and ford's relationship is depicted. it's rare to have an abusive relationship shown in kid's media, and even rarer for one to be realistic AND be treated as unhealthy. obviously the circumstances are fantastical (possession, dream gods, etc.) but the abuse in the relationship is honestly very realistic. like the things that bill does to ford- threatening to leave him for another, blaming him for the things that bill does to him, isolating him from his friends and family, making him heavily dependent on bill- these are all genuine tactics used in abusive relationships and i guess i'm just really grateful and happy to not only see this depiction, but to see ford healing from it. that he's finally able to break away from it, to tell his family about it and have them support him. that is just such a wonderful thing and i love it.

I've been overthinking my favourite shows again, so here, a long analysis full of headcanons about Celestia and her friendship skills :

So I've been thinking about Celestia character : The fact that she has been trying to teach friendhsip to one of her students even before Twilight (see Sunset) not by teaching them about it, but simply asking them to go make some friends and make reports about it. Truth is Celestia don't know anything about friendhsip. After banishing Luna to the Moon, she lost her connection to the Elements of Harmony, but she knew that she needed them for when her sister would return. And she had an entire millenia to try and build a friendhsip strong enough to make the spark happens and get her control back on this very VERY powerful weapon, that was also the tool that should help her get her sister back. And yet... It remained in her old castle ; which she eventually abandoned (surely soon after the banishement, since it was kinda destroyed during the fight). For a whole millenia, the Elements of Harmony have been forgotten. When the term of Luna's banishment came close, she knew she couldn't use the power of the Elements herself : Because after what happend to Luna, she lost all faith in her abilities to ever be a good friend, because eventually she knew that Luna turned into Nightmare Moon because of the way she neglected her, and she probably blame herself a lot for the whole thing. Celestia believed that she couldn't be the one to bring her sister back because of her failures : So she gave up on the idea to hold the Elements again by herself, or maybe never even considered that a possibility, because how could she ever be worthy of the Elements' magic again after what happened between her and Luna. So she first tried with Sunset Shimmer. She took her under her wings, but things went wrong, and I like to belive that it wasn't just because Sunset was an arrogant brat, but also because Celestia hasn't been the best mentor to her. Celestia sucks at relationships, and she was probably desperatly trying to turn Sunset into the pony she needed her to be, Sunset's attitude didn't help in the slightest, destroying the trust they had in the process. But Celestia learned from this and had to focus on another star student : Twilight, who needed to learn friendship for her, to hold the Elements for her, in order to bring her sister back. Luckily, it worked out, but even after Luna's return, Celstia doesn't want to repeat the same mistakes again. She needs to learn. She's Twilight's mentor, and yet she's the one who probably learned the most from the lessons Twilight had learned. In a way, they learned together, to be better ponies and better friends. Heck, Luna herself has been shown being better at making friends than Celestia ever had, with the CMC or Ponyville's folks. And it kinda makes sense since Luna's job allows her to be closer to ponies than her sister by going through their dreams. Anyway, all this just to say, I love the idea of Twilight having a role of mentor for Celestia as well, despite probably not being aware of it. Just, the idea that they learned from each other.
