Life drawing: The lost chapter
I found some sketches from life drawing around 5 months ago in photoshop that I had completely forgotten about! Not my greatest work but thought it might be good to post either way

Character project: 250 word reflection
The character project is something I’m fairly proud of, or specifically the elements part. I learned Toon Boom Harmony from doing my elements animation in it. That was my first animation using an actual animation program, not just the ones on an iPad. I do feel like I was lacking quite a bit in the dots project though, with lackluster animation and poor video quality, but hopefully, the elements of animation somewhat make up for it.
I changed my concept quite a bit throughout the planning part of the assignment, I realized that I disliked my first animation a lot, where I was using snow as my element, so I changed it to wind instead. But there was still something wrong with my second try at animating, so I scrapped that too. In the end, I made my final animation, a little creature with a cloak that gets caught in the wind.
The colour project was really fun, being able to work with Julius and Diogo to make our morbid robot story was cool, I feel like I could’ve done better though if I had more time, as I had a bunch of work I had to finish at the same time. But was fun overall!
Lastly, If there is anything I would change if I could go back is my lack of documentation, I wish that I took more screenshots, downloaded my progress of making the film and written more about what my thought process was at the time, but I was so absorbed in animating that I completely forgot to do it.

Internship: 250 word reflection
As someone who’s been struggling with anxiety throughout my life, sending messages asking for advice to the people I look up to was extremely nerve wreaking or the idea of it at least. The first message I sent had me shaking in my boots! But after doing this assignment I’ve realized there’s nothing to be scared of when sending messages as long as you’re respectful.
What I learned from the artists and animators that responded was a bit different depending on the person. Carter Goodrich told me to not change my whole artistic style when creating my portfolio and to work for myself even if I’m creating characters for others. Whilst Jennifer Wuestling explained that keeping up with practice is extremely important and that it takes time to get to your dream job. Working in smaller studios after graduation is a high possibility (and a welcome one for me!) I also got a quick response from a Swedish animation company named Soja, I was told that just keeping my best work in my portfolio is important, less is more so to say.
All of the advice I got is good and I’m so grateful for the responses I got, I will continue to write to people I look up to for advice as I no longer feel that barrier that was there before.

Grad assist: 250 words reflection
Working together with Freya and Debbie helped me understand the process of filmmaking with multiple people, I’ve been so used to working alone on my animated films that I was quite worried if I’d be able to adequately assist the third years with their graduation films. But Freya was extremely helpful with guides on what to do and how to do it in TV Paint, a program I hadn't used prior to this assignment. I’ve learnt how to use TV Paint and learnt way more about Toon Boom Harmony from assisting Debbie with her film too. I am now going to use toon boom harmony and TV Paint instead of Procreate for my animations like I did last year, as the formerly mentioned animation programs are obviously way more reliable and capable. I’m way less anxious about future endeavors in collaborative work and feel confident in my ability to guide the future second years when they have their grad assist assignment. Lastly, I don’t feel like there’s much I could’ve done differently and I don’t think I would want to, as I am quite content with what I made and learned from this assignment.

2 minute film: 250 word reflection
I’ve learnt a lot throughout the process of making this film, both from this assignment and the surrounding ones we had throughout the process. I went from using Procreate and Rough animator on the iPad to anime to using TV Paint and toon boom harmony, specifically TV Paint for the two-minute film. the difference in the process of making my films is huge and creating animations is so much quicker than last year.
I wasn’t able to completely finish my film for the hand in which I'm quite regretful about, as I changed my film narrative way too late, giving me barely any time to work on the actual film. I also had a moment where I felt stuck in my animating and illustrating skills, remaking backgrounds and changing the animatic over and over, making me lose around a week or two which could’ve been spent actually creating my film. the only good thing from this I could gather is that I’ve learnt what not to do next year.
The audio for the two-minute film is something I made, which I also learnt quickly was a bad idea, as I have no earlier knowledge in film score making. The sound effects are also lacking, but that is mostly because of a shortage of time. I will refine the audio and film for the end of year show in June.
ultimately, the 2-minute film made me realize where I was lacking in my knowledge and skills, so I can practice these specific things during the summer before my third year.

Jennifer is a splashart artist for riot games, she’s created amazing work for the games characters and she’s someone I look up to, I’m extremely happy that she responded to my message!

2 minute film
This is my final edit for the hand in, I added colour in the more critical parts of the film to illustrate that some characters are stone whilst others are still alive. The film is obviously unfinished but I’ll try to get it as good as possible for the end of year show!

Week 17: Museum visit
The last life-drawing! I feel like I’ve come a long way from first year and life drawing helped me a lot in learning anatomy and shadows. Thank you for the great lessons Susan and hope you have a great summer! :)

Week 13
Life-drawing on 31th March! This was a fun one! I like how the longer pieces turned out, but the 30 second to 5 min poses didn’t turn out that well haha
