Nina Simone – Baltimore (Disco Tech edit)
Disco Tech Edits, Sweden based producer/DJ (Nick) who describes his work as soul-funk disco. He gives our lovely Nina Simone a heart warming rasta hug in Oh Baltimore – Listen and love it. DTE kept the original elegance of the track that made us all fall in love with it in the first place. DTE gives it the extra kick fading you into the intro and magnifies the strings and the groooovy basslines that will have your head bopping and your heart thumpin’ while Nina Simone sings to us with all of her heart & soul. The original was released in 1978 (or ’77) …DTE’s edit was soft with *just* enough to make us want to go to the record store and stock up on Nina Simone vinyls. There’s more where this track came from, check out DTE‘s Soundcloud and find more of his collection of edits from The Equals, Anita Ward, Pink Floyd and many more (Disco party!). What’s your favorite Nina Simone song?

Oh Baltimore – Nina Simone Beat-up little seagull On a marble stair Tryin’ to find the ocean Lookin’ everywhere Hard times in the city In a hard town by the sea Ain’t nowhere to run to There ain’t nothin’ here for free
Hooker on the corner Waitin’ for a train Drunk lyin’ on the sidewalk Sleepin’ in the rain
And they hide their faces And they hide their eyes ‘Cause the city’s dyin’ And they don’t know why
Oh, Baltimore Man, it’s hard just to live Oh, Baltimore Man, it’s hard just to live, just to live
Get my sister Sandy And my little brother Ray Buy a big old wagon Gonna haul us all away
Livin’ in the country Where the mountain’s high Never comin’ back here ‘Til the day I die
Oh, Baltimore Man, it’s hard just to live Oh, Baltimore Man, it’s hard just to live, just to live

It has been announced that the second release from collaborative act Funkinevil will be available on wax next month. The dynamic duo of young Detroit talent Kyle Hall and UK analog master Funkineven present their Ignorant/In the Grind EP coming out on Wild Oats. It is a four track release, but it’s what comes sandwiched between the Intro and Outro that is most sought-after.
The first track Ignorant is an unidentifiable object from the underworld that has rocked sets from both of these artists over the last year. The next track In The Grid provides an uplifting contrast to the dark and destructive Ignorant. It brings with it a combination of warm whirling synths and distorted percussion.
This EP represents the presence of a promising partnership between two innovative musical minds. It’s our tip of the week, so make sure you remember to grab a copy while its available.

Replaced With Robots infuse electronica and rock-pop to create an 80’s-esque listening experience. RWR is a one-man show starring Kevin Burnstein as songwriter, beat-maker, engineer and producer. After listening to “Louder” from his EP I was channeling one of my favorite bands of all time - Depeche Mode. This came through the combination of deep vocals with a bouncy pop-dance synth that gradually turns darker and more moody as the track progresses. You will be pleasantly surprised by the rest of the EP as Burnstein attempts to bring back the 80’s (which, for me, never really left). Have a listen and be prepared to be Replaced with Robots.

DJ Orgasmic – Diamond Falls
This colourful track is the latest creation from DJ Orgasmic for his own record label Sound Pelligrino. The French DJ has a history of reworking electronica with rap and in recent years he has continued to innovate and entertain with his partner in crime Teki Latex by producing tracks and podcasts and by hunting down the hottest new acts for their record label.
Diamond Falls is a well-crafted gem which at first infuses tropical elements such as drips and shakers before scattering in the uneven beats of a kick drum. It then blossoms with the addition of an attention seeking high-pitched synth solo which runs beautifully over some more sharp brass-sounding synth tones to create an offbeat orgasmic masterpiece.

Ex Guru - The Hunt
Ex Guru, a French duo, currently nameless “girl” and “boy” who together create a dark, ambient and electronic sound — which might I add is the best “ex” title one could possibly ever hold. They’re inspired by their true emotions, nature and strong dislike for masks, which are masterfully translated through their music. I listened to their tracks “The Hunt”, “Sorry I Realise Now” and “La Mort”, each track is uniquely its own and yet Ex Guru maintains the playful image they’ve created for themselves. The track that struck me the most was “The Hunt”, it really does feel like you are being hunted by ex gurus who are now…monsters, with the intro of the powerful keys and then the heavy basslines that begin to chase you in a playful way. You ready for the chase? Hit play.
