Hey um? So you wavier (and other ship of the guy I can't remember) fans (if you exist???) Yall do realize if Netflix had an issue with the content of the book they would've a) not have employed the author or b) made them rewrite it, right? Like, are yall aware of the editorial and commission process????

"Sure, besides maybe having someone to share it with." She says this in the long-vowels teasing tone she usually applies to Ajax. At first I think she means herself, and I think she's right. It does feel better now that she's here, and she's the only person I've ever been able to truly say that about. I'm about to muster the courage to put the sentiment into words when she continues. "Thing may have blabbed about your date with Tyler. How did it go?" This is such a hard one-eighty that it takes me a moment to calibrate. It's certainly no longer time for a compliment. I haven't thought about Tyler all night, even when I was coordinating Xavier's arrest with his father. But Enid seems to want to discuss the date. "It was....interrupted," I say. It's the only word that feels honest. Enid's smirk widens. "Maybe it's time to finish it? I heard Tyler is working the late shift..." It would never have occurred to me to do any such thing, but then I think maybe this is what Enid wants from me. Someone to discuss boys with. Dates. All the trappings of adolescent girl friendships I've always avoided like the plague. Maybe this is what she shared with Yoko. The thing that made the other girl the more attractive option when all I could do was fixate on attack patterns and organs in jars. There's more to parse out, of course. Part of me wants to confess that I'd rather stay here...."I'll tell you all about it when I get back," I promise her, and I head out for the Weathervane.
-from the novelisation of Wednesday.
So...
Wednesday notices that Enid is addressing her, while talking about having someone to share things with, in the same tone she uses to address Ajax-which is explicitly described earlier as flirtatious.
From earlier:
"Ajax," Enid says in that flirtatious way people sometimes do. Drawing out the last vowel.
And Wednesday, thinking Enid is talking about herself and Wednesday....agrees, and is about to reciprocate.
And then Enid reveals she was talking about Tyler and Wednesday's date-meaning she was definitely talking about having someone to share things with in a romantic context-and Wednesday reveals she hasn't even thought about Tyler all night.
And even with the knowledge that Enid was definitely talking romantically-Wednesday is disappointed to realise Enid wasn't talking about herself and Wednesday and had been about to reciprocate the sentiment to Enid.
And then Wednesday admits she doesn't even want to go and find Tyler-but she does so because she thinks that this way, she and Enid will have something to talk about, and that their bond will be less likely to end. (It's also made clear she doesn't want Enid to prefer Yoko to her.)
So Wednesday reluctantly goes out to continue the date with Tyler-with the clear implication that if Enid had been talking about herself and Wednesday, she wouldn't have done. She's only going because, in her mind, Enid just made it clear that she sees Wednesday and Tyler as a couple-and because she wants to have something to talk about with Enid in their friendship that Enid actually enjoys talking about, with her thinking that "maybe this is what Enid wants from me". Which kind of has a note of "Maybe this is only what Enid wants from me."
I was going to say it reads like that trope of the main character going on a rebound date when they've been about to confess feelings for their love interest only for a miscommunication to lead them to think the love interest doesn't reciprocate and then realised that's basically exactly what it is.
In the novelization, at least, Wednesday canonically believes Enid is talking in a flirtatious, romantic context to her and is about to reciprocate.

Gosh Wednesday makes me SO MAD because Wenclair is CLEARLY supposed to be cannon and they keep pushing these damn boys onto her
S1 gave SO MUCH DEPTH to Enid outside of her scenes with Wednesday and she wasn't even a victim. They flesh her out so much and for what???
Don't get me wrong. I would be happy if they were like ace soulmates or even just the bestest of friends, but it is the need to have Wednesday in love with boys and kissing them on screen that annoys me. If you want her to be in a physical relationship or to have love interests to badly THEN WHY ARE THEY CRAP? That just makes my comparing them to Enid FUCKING INEVITABLE!!! AND ENID IS SIMPLY BETTER THAN THEM.
Enid has depth and they do a great job of subtly showing her character arc throughout the season and it is great (I will make a post about her arc in detail after I rewatch the first season) meanwhile we have Boy Failure and Tortured Artist Department. Literally everyone is done with them. The audience is done with them. The characters are explicitly done with them. Wednesday is almost aware that she's in a TV show and working against the writers clear wishes.
...
You know what? Scratch that. I don't care anymore. I'm treating the boys the same way people treat the girls in shows with a male MC who has a male best friend. They don't need to change a thing, we need more male characters that are as badly written as female characters in male-focused media.

i genuinely believe that the wednesday s1 official novelisation was written to prove to all the wenclair deniers (when it happens) that it was always on the cards for them. the novel reads like a fanfic, and thereâs no denying the emotions in the book from wednesdays pov.
youâll get people saying âthey made it wokeâ or âthey made it gayâ, which can be proven wrong by reading the novelisation, which was released WAY before season 2.
before i read that, i was hoping that theyâd make wenclair canon but wasnât holding out hope for anything as these things (in terms of lgbtq+ headcanon ships) donât go how we hope. however, after reading - it seems that itâs the relationship the writers care most about, and from what weâve seen in trailers & teasers for season 2, theyâre getting closer (in general - i know thereâs no romance in season 2)
the opposites attract storyline is too good NOT for them to build up. the show has been alluding to it since the beginning, and the book just solidifies it.
if iâm wrong, i will hold my hands up and accept it, but i donât think i am.

ellieâs grief in the show is different than in the game because the show is on a new timeline.
ranty/rambly character analysis kinda idk
i keep seeing discourse ab this show and. iâm trying so hard not to care bc itâs all annoying to me lol but the one that keeps coming up is ellie wasnât angry enough. but, the reason it feels that way and that maybe sheâs âhappierâ in the show is because the timeline is different
in the game, joel dies, ellie is on her revenge path after a few days. in the show, ellie is physically hurt. she cannot go find anybody right now, sheâs being held in the hospital while she recovers. also, she just lost the most important person in her life, sheâs being kept under as much surveillance in that hospital as they can get. this whole process takes three months. thatâs three months that ellie has already been actively grieving. all that rage is building inside her, probably venting in very strange ways as sheâs being held up, but ultimately sheâs trying to suppress it. why? she wants to leave, because she wants to fucking kill abby.
thatâs why they make her talk to gail before she goes. thatâs why sheâs happy as a clam during the whole conversation. if you genuinely watched that and thought âwtf why is she so okay right nowâ i fear you were not the intended audience for this show. itâs been said over and over which is why itâs fascinating that people are still missing the whole point.
Ellie. Is. Lying.
She is lying to Everyone. she is fucking livid. sheâs heartbroken, so much so that sheâs numb. sheâs coasting. the whole time sheâs just coasting, waiting for the moment she explodesâthe moment she finds abby.
thatâs why you think sheâs âout of characterââbut sheâs not. think about how she acted in season 1. she was silly and aloof and chatty and witty; and she was grieving. she had just lost her best friend and first crush and first kiss, the most important person in her life at that point had just died. but she put on that face. that goofy smile and stupid puns, that is the face she puts on while she grieves because she doesnât want her devastation to be anyone elseâs business. this is also interesting when you look at her behavior after the david situation, she is not herself. sheâs fully dazed over and quiet. that was the tipping point for all this trauma that she just shut down. she couldnât hide all of it anymore
you can also see it in the flashback episodes. she becomes more and more reserved (not necessarily angry, but certainly pulling away a lot) as she begins to really sort through truth and lies. that anger does come back until it has a reason to (eugene).
the timeline of ellieâs grief is so important because is shows that she has had ample time to put together a version of herself that works publicly. that falls apart when things start to get real, because whatâs real is she is murderous and she is going to do terrible things (which she will end up regretting but thatâs a whole other thought i have). dinaâs âpep talkâ wasnât explaining to ellie why ellie needs to be angry, itâs her explaining why she, dina, wants to be a part of this. ellie knows why she is there, but she doesnât want dina to be apart of the horrible acts sheâs going to commit, she wants dina to remain her safe place and her sense of selfâthe self that still had joel. but selfishly, she canât make dina not go, because she wants her there.
i also think thatâs why ellie wasnât mad about the pregnancy like she was in the game. itâs been months, the grief has settled into being familiar at this point, sheâs not constantly on the edge; unlike the game where the wound was still fresh and that news was shocking, so since sheâs hurting, she reacted hurt. but since in the show she has a bandaid on, she was able to avoid the hurt reaction.
lastly, to act like game ellie was constantly the worst version herself every minute sheâs in seattle is just so dramatic and wrong. ellie and dina have nice moments, ellie has moments where she is sad and happy and angry and bittersweet. her grief is not simply rageâitâs human. thatâs how the show is doing it too. itâs weird when someone you love dies because somehow, the world keeps spinning. it feels unfair, how dare life continue without someone i cared about with me. but it does, which means even as you miss someone youâre going to have happy moments, and excited ones, and silly ones. that doesnât mean everything is ok, it just means something is right then in that moment.
anyway. i think the show is fine, itâs entertaining, it has solid enough plot, and more than anything itâs goal is to provoke thought and feelings, the same thing the game wanted. if you donât like how they did it thatâs fine, you can play the game. but if youâre giving the show a chance, give it a real one. contextualize s2 within the show, not the game, because they are different and if you keep mixing up content then yeah, itâs going to feel like a bad show. so everyone chill out and just have fun watching a little show damn

i often think about ellie listening to the space launch tape joel gifted her, as a way to connect with him after his death. how sheâd sit somewhere entirely isolated, look up at the moon and think, maybe, heâs just up there waiting for her.

Yeah, the reactions to the latest episode truly confirmed that the people who whine about the show will never be satisfied because they have built an alternative reality in their heads and will keep sulking until Mazin knocks at their door and begs them to give him screenwriting lessons.
So far, the biggest complaints can be summed up as:
This show isn't about men. Why isn't it about men???
Ellie's character isn't written like the reader x Ellie smut fics people post on here, and therefore her canonical personality (awkward girl, act first and think later, enjoyer of nerdy things like bad puns, space, and dinosaurs) is cringey
Every single scene should happen in one single episode. From Joel's death to the porch scene at the end, the ~20 hours of plot of the second game should be condensed in a single, 120 minutes episode. This is a request so reasonable the only reason why they didn't follow through with it is because they're dumb
This show isn't about men. Why isn't it about men???
Why are we spending time expanding the female characters when we could talk about the male ones??
Micro expressions?? I refuse to acknowledge them. Unless the characters state out loud and directly how they feel, I'm gonna keep yelling about bad acting and character writing (see: Dina is definitely more hellbent on revenge than Ellie despite there being a scene of Dina wanting to leave as soon as they're actually risking their lives whilist Ellie insists on staying)
WHERE IS TOMMY???? In the game he shows up only after Ellie murders Mel and Owen but I want him now now now now
WHERE ARE THE MENNNN WHAT SHOW IS WORTH WATCHING IF THERE AREN'T MEN IN IT????
