she knew the blonde well enough by now to know that her comments did not come froma mean-spirited place. at least, not on purpose. and it wasn’t like elphaba hadn’t had that exact thought as the guy approached her,  but it still stung. she shrugged, anxious fingers fidgeting with the sleeves of her sweater. “maybe he’s not perfectly normal. there must be something wrong with him.” elphaba pushed her glasses up with one finger, looking up at her roommate. “or maybe he saw us together at some point and thought it would be easier to approach you through me.”

elphie’s instinct was to shrink away from the high-pitched noise coming out of the blonde’s mouth, hands going up to cover her ears. “galinda, please. calm down.” she sighed, fingers pinching the bridge of her nose. “i don’t know who. i went out and he kept showing up everywhere i went. and then he approached me and claimed he wanted to invite me out for coffee and gave me his number. what do numbers have to do with this... flirting thing? is that some strange mating ritual? if you guess the number he thought of are you supposed to wed him?”

      a squeal, one FILLED with excitement as her hands clasp together in front of her, a few little bounces just to express her joy just that TINY bit more. “ elphie!! an ADMIRER is not a stalker!! who is it?? ” and an overly dramatic gasp. “ is he CUTE?? ”

rejection was elphaba’s biggest curse. mother, father, sister, classmates. they all turned their backs on her, made her know they were doing it. made her know there was no other reason than her being different. her only sin had been being born the wrong color. being born with magic. but that hadn’t been her FAULT. and then her mother died. and that had been her fault. she was never meant to keep people in her life.

“you don’t have to. i’m sorry. i don’t know why i asked that, you barely know me.” she was tired, and she needed someone to make her believe, for just one moment, that she wasn’t unwanted.

     the request caught her off-guard. the idea of staying in one place — and with her — forever was gratifying. but she knew that she’d never be able to; she had to get back to the other paladins ( wherever they were ) and help them find shiro. she had to, somehow, get back out there and find her lion. she had so much to do in so little time. but she couldn’t say ‘ i can’t ’ to the other. she couldn’t risk possibly hurting her which is why she said, “i promise.”
