My final concept for my animation section of my main project.

I felt I had to stop developing more and more illustrations of the these celebrities at some point and start compiling some form of animation. I wish i started animation earlier in the year so I could have more time to further develop my skill. i didn’t think i would enjoy animation as much I do, even though it’s just simple eye movements and changes, would like to further look into animation.

In this animation, I like how the symbols act as loading screens instead of my other concepts. I felt pressured to produce something more elaborate and complicated to go with my realistic illustrations but I feel a more simpler approach works quite well.

Final concept of my entry for the Batsford Prize 2017. I decided to go with a pastel green background as it goes with the warm tones of the illustration and added more leaf decor to the typography. i’m happy with this outcome as it’s the first time I have drawn anything like this and I feel it’s a good start.

RESEARCH

I came across Atlanta the television series but the typography in the title is what really drew me in. It looks very seventies inspired and I like how the serifs are so elongated. I want to recreate something similar for my Batsford illustration as it almost looks like the font is growing but still graphic and clear to read.

Beautiful art by WoonJung. I love their use of colour and lighting, something I’ve always wanted to improve on. They have a series featuring witches in a number of ‘unwitchy’ situations and locations. I really love her summer themed illustrations with the witches as they are often depicted in dark and spooky compositions but here they are happy and colourful, with summer appropriate witchy hats.

RESEARCH

I’ve noticed the term witchsona has become a popular topic on Instagram and among young people. It originally involves redrawing yourself as a witch but it has evolved to redesigning the look of witches. Witches are no longer the gnarly, warty old women as originally imagined, now they are fashionable, cute young girls.

I haven’t seen witch themed cards. I’m tempted to apply my work for the Flea Market in context, or at least develop them further. I feel a witch themed card series would be quite popular, particularly with young people, and depending on the style I try, children too.

Final concept for my witch themed cards. I tried to pick a range of patterns and illustrations whilst still keeping the colour palette. I feel could pick and choose certain parts of the collection that could go together as well as a collection as a whole.

Looking at the succulent obsession but applying it towards the issues of climate change. I imagined the tall shaped cactus’ as pylons or factory structures. Imagining people embracing plants decoratively but not truly caring about climate change. Working with a similar colour palette as my previous illustrations, combining warm tones with green to represent nature.

Another angle for my plant/city idea. I liked this composition because it was like someone was walking through the street looking up. However I do prefer my other concept as I feel you get a clearer view and you can see inside the windows.

Looking at vinyl designs for my degree show. I wanted to incorporate designs from my previous vinyl for my interim show display and tried to keep it fairly easy to cut on the vinyl but remain close to the art nouveau aesthetic. I imagined it as a frame around the poster, instead of being part of the actual print, trying to turn the whole wall into a piece of work.

Looking at possible aftershave packaging ideas, incorporating my earlier torso illustrations and flowers from my flower beard illustrations. Each flower would represent the scent.

Developed my better version of George Michael into a simple animation. It was a little more difficult due to the skin and shading, instead of just basic line art.
