ive been... decent-ish! there's been a lot of changes in my life as of late, and my anxiety/panic disorder sets in every so often, but meds and being occupied (like with my hobbies, including writing our fantastic list of prompts) helps out a lot :-)

i just have to power through it; ive done it before and i know i can do it again. but right now, im just happy to be back, and hopefully active again on this blog!

🖤 4. What would they carve into their pumpkin? Does it have a unique size, shape, color? Bonus points for visual reference!

Emerald's pumpkin would be on the smaller end, but heavy nonetheless. They just think the smaller ones are cute and less likely to be picked, so they scoop them up themselves. Evidently, Holli will try to pick a pumpkin on Emerald's behalf and will try her best to carry it back to them. This results in some heavily damaged and scratched pumpkins, sometimes with bite marks where Holli tried to grab it from to drag. Emerald jokes that it just adds character (and honestly likes the look of mangled pumpkins because it makes it look more interesting).

Aside from a regular jack-o-lantern expression, Emerald tries to get creative and will make one dedicated to Holli since she worked so hard to find a good crop. Emerald can't carve a pumpkin very well and often needs help from others to get the curves done right, but in the end with a zip of magic here and there, the job is finished!

Trick or treat! 🌙🧙‍♀️

My character of choice, surprise surprise, is Asra. Or, if you're feeling particularly festive, Valdemar is an option too.

Please do let me know if I did this right. I am feeling very dumb right now and I wouldn't be surprised if I misunderstood entirely.

There's a still wind sweeping across the fields, the moonlight serving as your only compass. That, and the reflection of it from silken white hair behind you, the feeling of his eyes concentrated on your figure, all too focused that you might trip or fall from the rough terrain. You stop and turn back to Asra, who looks at you in surprise when you give him a knowing smile. He grins smugly as he nods his chin to you, a silent gesture to move forward. He worries too much sometimes.

Eventually, you reach your destination, a flattened area of grass in the shape of a large hexagon. Asra strides to the center, then offers his hand for you to take. You trust him, and that's all you need to reach for his palm, standing by his side as you each face the moon. A gust of air nearly knocks you both to your knees, the spirit of Hallow's Eve having been impatient for your arrival, but you remain upright. Asra wanted to show you something, and you'd prefer to enjoy it without any scrapes.

"Listen for a voice, and you'll see why I wanted you to come here," he says, shutting his eyes, facing his palms to the sky. As he speaks, the ground illuminates in a sky blue glow, and you quickly try to match him. It's difficult, but soon enough, in the midst of the air swirling around you, carrying your energy through the expanse of the field, you can hear a hollow yet soft voice calling your name. Asra mutters a few words, and once he grows silent, he grabs your hand, startling you out of your peaceful state of mind, blinking your eyes open to see why he wants your attention.

And there it is. The heavens painted in a brilliant royal purple, and what's more, the empty, sullen field that you were once trudging through, is now covered in moonflowers. They're glowing, swaying softly in the wind that carries a sorrowly beautiful melody. Fireflies dance among them, and as you stare at the scenery, Asra pulls you closer. "Do you see how the universe responds to you?" he hushes, "Everything created here is because of you. Who you are to the world, and... Who you are to me."

Asra pauses, letting go of you to crouch down to a flower, plucking it carefully, coming back up to you. He snaps the stem just short enough, and places it in your hair, that ever-mystified grin on his lips. "I want to know what the rest of the world looks like. I want to see it through your eyes."

"Can we do that together?" 🌼🌙

Pumpkin fest asks for Emerald 2, 3, and 5

🖤 2. Do they have a unique tradition to celebrate Halloween?

Not exactly Halloween, but Emerald is mixed race and mostly Hispanic, so they celebrate Dia de Los Muertos shortly after! They love sharing the celebration with others, doing their makeup to resemble sugar skulls, and visiting late loved ones. It doesn't help that their home is haunted, so they do their best to spend the day comforting and honoring ghosts with lost connections. They end up baking pan dulces together.

🎃 3. Does their familiar take part in the festivities? Do they get to dress up?

Holli has a bit of an impression at any event considering she's a massive polar bear, so she doesn't really need a costume to be "scary!" Still, Holli seems to enjoy being dressed up, even when she's costumed as a giant pumpkin. She mostly enjoys the silk black-and-orange bow around her neck.

Holli likes going to the pumpkin patch the most, helping Emerald find the right pumpkin to carve for later. She also enjoys bobbing for apples, unknowingly scaring away any other guests after they see a murderous snowball trying to nab the fruit. She isn't as violent as other people believe, promise!

Additionally likes to curl up with Emerald and their friends/other apprentices at the fireplace when everyone gets to swap spooky stories. Particularly keeps Emerald comforted if they get creeped out, nudging her head into their arms, making a soft huff or grumble to draw their attention back to her.

🖤 5. Do they decorate their home for the festival?

If they can remember to, yes! They'll joke that they leave spiders around their house because they're "natural cobwebs," (plus they like spiders and don't think they're doing any harm).

If they actually get ahold of themselves and make time to decorate, they'll get fake cobwebs and put it all along their fences and shrubs, as well as using some of their magic to set up ghost lights around the house, illuminating the path home and around the woods. It closely resembles will o' the wisp!

happy hallow's eve, babes and ghouls! ✧ as a miniature event to celebrate the holiday, my porchlight is now open for 3 trick or treaters to send a "trick or treat" with an emoji (1-2) and character (1) of their choice!

Halloween is upon us so I'll ask you a spooky question. You don't have to answer if it's too controversial but... How does Emerald feels about candy corn?🍬🌽

My opinion on candy corn, huh...? Honestly, it's not as bad as people say. Plenty of dishes are made with honey, sugar, vanilla, and butter, anyhow!

If I'm being completely honest, though, I like the candy pumpkins more than the corn. 🎃💚🧡
