OH before I  go to bed I should convey to you all the weirdest fact I learned today

I learned that when a caterpillar is metamorphosing into a butterfly within the cocoon, it is not, as I previously assumed, slowly growing wings and little antennae and whatever else. If we open a cocoon, apparently what we find is that the caterpillar has actually dissolved into a shapeless goo, from which the butterfly will be formed.

A goo.

From which the butterfly is formed.

You can, of course, go the philosophical route with this: are they, then, the same creature, pre- and post- this complete reconstitution of the self? If the very brain, the nervous system, has been completely reassembled, how do we identify this as in any way the same?

So here’s the kicker.

Apparently one scientist figured he’d test this out by training a bunch of caterpillars to react negatively to a specific scent, which they would normally not react negatively to. This was all done prior to the cocoon stage.

And these butterflies. These post-goo, completely remade selves? They reacted negatively to the scent, too.

there’s 15 year olds on this website who already know they’re asexual that is incredible just incredible when I was 15 all I knew was that I was broken and that something was clearly wrong with me. say what you want about tumblr but I think we can agree that spreading knowledge about alternative sexualities is something done really well here and to the benefit of so many.

Today, a Japanese trans woman was chased off of Tumblr for calling out people in regards of Chihiro’s situation in dan gan ron pa. She explained cultural situation in japan, and why it doesn’t make sense for Chihiro to be trans (all while not even touching headcanon, as she respected people’s view). She got called many slurs, got told to kill herself simply for the fact she could not stand the fact you people only applied americentric points of view onto japanese culture (and character) and decided to call you out on your harmful behaviour towards japanese culture

all she did was protect her culture and stand of lgtb+ people in japan

and it was NOT done by “big bad cishets” by the way

it’s so amusing how offended people get when you’re comfortable with yourself. it’s been so great over the past few months watching people love themselves more. i love selfies and nudes and i love when girls call themselves queens and act like they’re the hottest thing on the planet and if anyone calls you self centered or pretentious blow them the biggest kiss and carry on.
