Let’s talk Rosalie and Emmett:

Emmett is described as being jovial, humorous, care-free, doesn’t dwell on things he cannot control, and like an open book. Edward states in midnight sun, “Hearing Emmett’s thoughts never felt intrusive, because he never thought one thing that he would not say aloud or put into action”. Rosalie is described as being vain, determined, cynical, pessimistic, and (according to Edward) shows little concern for anyone but herself.

Now, a relationship where “opposites attract” is possible but doubtful to work in this situation. First of all, Emmett absolutely has to have a serious side for this relationship to have gotten anywhere in the early days. Rosalie says she fell in love with his honesty and innocence and that Emmett is exactly the kind of person she needs. I understand the idea that he could help balance her out and help her see the joy in life and become more lighthearted. But, she would not have trusted him to move forward with the relationship if there wasn’t serious conversation about her past trauma and her feelings about what she lost. Emmett would not have just shrugged it off and said “yeah that sucks, but being a vampire is better.” No, he would’ve been understanding and supportive and not rushed into anything she wasn’t 100 percent ready for.

A consistency throughout the books in SM believing Rosalie and Emmett were love at first sight and never had any trouble with becoming comfortable and trusting. Emmett might work that way, but Rosalie definitely wouldn’t. She wouldn’t just latch onto a guy she just met without spending a lot of time working through her past relationship. There are things throughout the books, especially midnight sun, that should be mentioned but are brushed over. For example, Edward and Emmett chat in the woods and Edward is worried about Bella’s safety and mentions homocide. Emmett responds with basically oh she’s fine she lives in forks. Realistically, he should’ve gotten sad thinking that his own wife died by homocide. Or when Edward tells Rosalie “we all know what a perfect assassin you are.” There’s no way Emmett would just sit there and let him make that comment and not defend her. If that was my significant other I would’ve lost my shit screaming at Edward telling him how dare he say that considering his own murder record and to be thankful he was never in a place where someone hurt him so bad that he had to make that choice. Emmett is always shown as the husband that just deals with Rosalie’s bitchy attitude, never an actual loving and supportive partner. I was 12 when I first read these books. The messages to young girls about what’s ok and not ok in a relationship are so warped. And I won’t even get into the problems with Edward and Bella. SM couldn’t used this as an opportunity to show young girls that they deserve a man that respects them no matter what. That it’s possible to find someone to help you heal through your trauma. Back in the 30s, spousal rape was legal and I wouldn’t doubt that if Rosalie survived she would’ve been blamed and at fault. So going into a relationship with Emmett she wouldn’t had the idea in her head that she wasn’t worth anything anymore and that she didn’t deserve him. A great chance to show young girls that it’s never their fault! SM basically even says Rosalie had this life because of her beauty and if she was average like Vera (she wouldn’t have gotten gang raped and beat)! I’m frustrated so I’ll stop ranting. Rosalie and Emmett deserve so much better. I rely on fanfic for their relationship because I know if SM ever wrote a book about them, nothing would change.

I cannot control the resentment and anger I hold for SM for changing the draft of midnight of emmett calling Rosalie “baby” to “gorgeous” because once again she’s trying to prove to herself and failing to prove to us that emmett only cares about her for her beauty

Can we talk about how Rosalie hale is a perfectionist and has the best self control? I’m sure it was beyond SM to think of this, but surivivors of sexual assault sometimes try to regain control by controlling things around them. I think it’d be interesting to see the connection between her trauma and her need to be in control when it comes to human blood and other aspects like trying to tell Bella what to do

The fact that Rosalie thinks humans are beneath her is so unrealistic. Rosalie would have taught every highschooler self-defense. Rosalie would have supplied every college campus with pepperspray. Rosalie would have run over every man who dared catcall a woman with her bright red BMW. Rosalie would have tried her hardest to prevent what happened to her from ever happening to anyone else mortal or immortal.

If the cullens has political affiliations (this is all lighthearted fun, after all, they aren’t real😄)

Carlisle- He’s the only Cullen not too involved in politics, he leans left, but he also likes the values of his times

Esme- she’s independent because she loves everyone and respects all values

Jasper- republican all the way

Alice- definitely Democrat, she’s really into progressiveness

Edward- also a hard republican

Bella- not too into politics, but considers herself to be a Democrat

Emmett- 100 Democrat, he is pro do whatever you want as long as you’re having fun

Rosalie- the only one I’m not too sure of... might be republican because of how she was raised, but she definitely sides with the women’s rights issues

Well fuck Edward, I think if I had to relive the trauma of rape and murder everyday I’d mope and whine and have trouble “amusing” myself too😒 The more I love Rosalie, the more I cannot stand Edward, like just stop.

I skimmed through the entirety of midnight sun reading only the pages involving Rosalie and Emmett. I love that the detailed scene of her saving him is in here, but the rest of the scenes is just Edward/Meyer being sexist and unnessacarily rude to Rosalie

I love how my brain has wired itself to constantly link twilight to whatever the hell im doing. For example, I got ravioli from Olive Garden today and thought about that time that Bella ordered mushroom ravioli in Twilight

I made a TikTok of how my mind literally refers everything I hear & see to twilight cause no lie I watched a TikTok of this girl & as soon as she mentioned she was from Rochester NY I thought of Rosalie

I think somebody should warn kids that whatever their favorite piece of media is when they're 12 will become an integral part of who they are as a person so they can choose wisely

sometimes i get emotional because emmett was this huge, beefy guy dying in the woods and rosalie, with her horrible past of violent men, saw the potential he had to hurt her and saved him anyway

and emmett is so gentle with her, he touches her so softly even in the movies, because he knows he’s exceptionally strong even for a vampire and despite rosalie’s strong front, even she still has triggers. he genuinely sees her as his angel and i love that for her
