Jack blinked in surprise at the question. “Wha- My hair?” he repeated, tugging on a strand of hair to try to look at it. His brows furrowed a bit when he realized it was too short and he laughed, shrugging at her. “I don’t know actually. It just is. Why’s your hair brown?”

"Huh- it looks funny." The little girl immediately raises her hands, shaking her head. "In a good way!"

"My hair?" Emma chews on her lip, caressing her chin pensively. Well, she has to look smart! "Mine’s brown because Mama’s is brown, I think. And Papa’s too!" 

Jack grins slightly and kneels down in front of the girl. “That sounds about right,” he says, reaching out to tug gently on a strand of the girl’s hair. 

The touch is surprisingly light, like a cold breeze, and Emma's eyes widen a fair bit. "W-Well, aye. My big brother's is brown too..."

Despite the bad weather, streaks of sunlight pierce the clouds to colour the snow below her feet while she's walking, and seem to stop along with her when she sees him. 

The little girl, for once, is grateful she's wearing her handmade mask outside, because the mere presence of the man (at least, the vague silhouette before her seems to be a man's) near her makes her feel a certain respect and abashment Jack would scoff at. Since glasses are not common in her village, without including the elders, she is certainly curious.

"Uh– Uhm, sorry, sir. How come you are wearin'... those?"

They were out in the woods that morning, and Jack was just setting up the playing field for their little hopscotch game. It was sort of a tradition for them considering they did it every morning. Jack jumped up with a grin, looking down at the various twigs that he had arranged into small squares. He threw a small rock in the air and caught it before hopping over to stand next to his sister. “Admit it, ain’t bad right? Did a pretty good job if I can say so. Then again when don’t I?” he joked. He handed the rock over to her before he added, “Go on, I’ll let ya go first this time.”

With a little twinkle in her eye that betrayed her feigned annoyance, the little girl puffed her cheeks and enclosed the rock in her small hand, rolling her eyes. "That's because you never let me do it! I could  make a castle or– or somethin' really pretty!"

However, it only took a couple of seconds for her to smile and chortle again, throwing the small pebble and jumping two squares forward. "I'm winnin', Jack!"

Guys!!! Look what I finally bought last week!

I'm so happy with these three, you have no idea! I finished North's today and I am in /love/. If you haven't read them, you should! And talk to me about it so we can fangirl about it. My life is happier now. 

Also, sorry for my absence! School keeps me busy, but I'm trying to keep everything in order so I can be around more and talk to you all. :)
