WIP WEDNESDAY ~
Here's the newest snippet from Heart of the Weave: Part 5. I promise my fics can be serious, but sometimes you need a little humor, especially with how the world is right now.

I wake up from a well-deserved nap, feeling refreshed and excited for a lovely family dinner in a few hours. Gale must be downstairs with my brothers, because he most certainly isn't in bed with me.
I leave the bedroom to check on Jenevelle, who isn't in her crib, which means Gale took care of her right away. What an incredible husband that I've been blessed with, hmm?
I peek over the stair railing and notice the multi-person couch covered with large pillows, with a sign that reads ‘No Girls Allowed (except Jenevelle and Delsii).’
“Real mature,” I tease, fighting laughter as I approach the couch fort. I see my brothers peeping through the space in between two of the pillows, snickering as I stand here with my arms crossed. I hear a rather familiar sound coming from within that resembles Gale’s cough when he's choking on his own saliva. He begins hacking and I gasp, realizing my darling husband joined the fort.
I lift one of the pillows and plop it on the ground next to me, noticing my Gale feeding Jenevelle a bottle while snuggled in the fort.
“Gale?!”
“Listen, it's the perfect place for baby-feeding. The infants love it! Have you ever seen Onyx smile so wide? I mean, look at him!” I peep over at Onyx, who is curled up in Fanden's arms with a cheerful grin on his face. Gale has a point, but I'm still flustered I'm not part of this fun little fort party.
“Now, Emmy, if you would please place the pillow back on our couch fort, thanks,” Therran comments with a childish tone, which leads me to roll my eyes in response. He's bouncing his happy baby girl in his arms while I'm out here wishing I was snuggling a baby. Unfortunately, I'm chopped liver. I place the pillow back on the fort as a heavy, irritated huff escapes my nostrils.
Aelric comes running in from the art room with enthusiasm, but curious as to what's happening right now in the living space.
“Mommy, where's Daddy? I can't find him.”
“He's in your uncles’ fort, but wouldn't you rather hang out with mom–”
“A fort?! Can I join?!” Therran’s head pops up from the couch in excitement, a cheeky smile on his face as he notices my son.
“Hell yeah! Come on in, little dude!” my brother chimes in, to which Aelric then bolts inside without a second thought. I sigh and facepalm myself as I begin turning around and walking the other direction.
“Emmy, wait!” Fanden calls out and immediately I turn around in excitement in hopes that I'm invited to join in on the fort fun. “Can you toss me Onyx's diaper bag please? It's sitting next to the coffee table.” I grunt with frustration, but I'm not going to say no because, well, Onyx is my precious baby nephew that I love with all my heart. Fanden’s okay, I suppose.
“You're lucky I love you and that baby of yours.” I place the diaper bag next to the couch-fort and storm off to the kitchen for a well-needed snack. As I approach, I notice my parents cooking for tonight’s delicious meal, to which they seem to not want me in there.
“Darling, please skedaddle. Your mother and I are cooking a very delicious dinner, and we want it to be a surprise,” my father comments, leaving me in absolute disbelief.
“Aw, rats! I'm not welcome anywhere, it seems. The boys made a ‘no girls allowed’ fort, so now I'm just kind of…here.” My parents let out one loud laugh, but then stopped themselves from continuing.
“Take advantage of it. Go take a hot bath, you can use some of my herbs and salts. Relax. Get some ‘Emmy’ time before dinner this evening,” my mother adds, her beautiful smile lighting up her face. I sigh, but return a smile back at her as I relax my shoulders. She's right, might as well have a moment of peace and quiet.
As I walk through the living room and towards the stairs, I hear laughter and the ‘blissful’ sounds of ongoing flatulence escaping from the fort.
“Good Gods! Well, glad I'm not in there after all.” Gale escapes the fort, with a giggling Jenevelle curled up in his arms.
“Your brothers both managed to gag me with the unnerving sounds that emerged from the cave of their bottoms,” Gale comments with a furrowed brow, glaring at Fanden and Therran as he climbs out of the fort. “It was fun while it lasted.”
“Hey Gale, you should be used to it by now. You're married to our sister,” Fanden responds as he also leaves the fort with a sleepy Onyx cuddled up to his chest. Therran releases a sigh of relief as he steps out of the fort with his baby Delsii in his right arm. She doesn't seem fazed whatsoever. And oddly enough, my own four year old doesn't even give a damn.
Therran’s unhinged mouth chimes in with, “Well, I feel much better. I've been holding that in for hours. And Fanden has too, apparently.”
“Guys, please just…shut up,” I say as I fight a huge fit of ongoing laughter, which then leads to me placing my hands on my knees and giving in to a ridiculous giggle fit. “Well, now is a good time to partake in getting ready for dinner. See you on the flip side, cheese bags.”
Sometimes a humorous afternoon is well-needed and gods, did all of us need that.

Heart of the Weave: part 4
Chapter 47

My family and Halsin are all waiting for me as we prepare to head out to the city for a big dinner with our friends. I'm feeling beyond emotional but I try my best to keep the tears hidden. My hair is finally curled, with my bangs pinned back and the rest hanging below my shoulders. A gentle knock on the bathroom door startles me as I stand here in a trance, staring at my own reflection. The children will be staying with my parents while all of us adults enjoy a night out.
“Mama! Are you okay?”
“I'm alright, Aelric. Mommy will be out soon.” I slide into my silky crimson gown that drops past my feet and my shoulders are gracefully exposed. I attach the golden crystal corset to my waist, feeling like a million gold. Red and gold. Ha, reminds me of Waverly.
I open the bathroom door and step through the doorway, quietly making my way into the living room. Gale’s eyes widen as he notices me, his jaw dropping to the floor as I make my appearance. He holds Jenevelle against his chest, but completely ignores the fact she's yanking on his thick, luscious dark hair.
“You look stunning. Beyond radiant. Gods… I am the luckiest man that's ever walked Faerûn.” My husband swallows as he tries holding back additional words that could lead my brothers into squaring up with him in the living room.
Speaking of them, they both stare at me in awe as I pick up Aelric in my arms.
“Oh look at you, pretty girl,” Fanden murmurs, his smile lighting up the room. “Absolutely radiant. Gale’s right, you know. He is a very lucky man to be with someone as funny, loving, and beautiful as our baby sister.”
“Stop it, you guys. You're going to make me blush!”
“Too late, I see that dark red heat flushing in those squishy cheeks of yours,” Therran adds with a tone of playfulness. He places Delsii in the baby wrap, and we all prepare to leave the house. Is it weird that I'm feeling a hint of sadness in the back of my mind as I think about leaving our friends tomorrow? I think I'm being painfully dramatic.
After we drop the kids off with my parents for the night, we decide to journey down the path toward the city by foot rather than the carriage so we can admire the beautiful evening sky and the lit torches that stand down the entire pathway. I begin to reflect on all the good times we've had here, between the memories and the children born.
My brothers and Halsin are in front of us, leading the way while Gale and I admire the night sky next to one another. He holds my hand within his, and I suddenly feel a little more at peace thanks to his comforting presence. The way his thumb delicately rubs my knuckles brings chills down every inch of my flesh.
“Are you ready for tomorrow, my love? You seem a little off tonight.” He noticed, huh? I guess he is the best at reading me and immediately noticing when I'm not myself. Fanden immediately releases his hand from Halsin’s, and steps back to walk in rhythm with me.
“Aw, baby? Are you sad to leave?”
“A little bit. But also, I’m excited. I know we’ll still see everyone, and the castle will bring new memories for us to embrace. I have many mixed emotions, if I'm being completely honest.”
Apparently the castle we’ll be moving into is surrounded by fae, beautiful forests, and sits in front of the mountains; a girl’s dream come true. Living in the same home as my family sure will feel weird, but I guess it won't be much different than our little community we've been accustomed to these past few years. Well, other than the enchanted surroundings and luxurious aesthetics.
“You're completely right, baby girl. We’ll still see our friends. Remember, Astarion and Shadowheart will be visiting Waterdeep because of Asher, Karlach and Wyll will visit because of Maddox. And Neeve will be so much closer. Hell, she can come over and have a ball whenever she wants,” Therran reminds me, which immediately puts me in good spirits. We’ll even get to see Morena again; she has to be so lonely, even with Tara’s immortal ass around. We all miss that tressym so dearly, but happy we will get to see her again. Gale sleeptalks about her sometimes.
The rest of the walk was beyond calming, and I enjoyed every second between watching the moon appear in the sky and the pleasant talks with the ones I love dearly.
We make it to the city, and as the gate opens for us, there stands all of our friends just waiting for us to arrive so we can all walk to the restaurant together. My heart aches just a tad as I notice a smile on everyone’s face, but it looks like Karlach has been crying.

Heart of the Weave: Part 4
Chapter 45- Fanden's Perspective

All four of us head into the city one final time before we move back to Waterdeep, enjoying the festivities and beautiful scenery that surrounds us. Halsin and I hold hands as we stroll along, figuring out what to do. There's the festival, which isn't always a terrible idea, but then I remember the children are all at home so that wouldn't exactly work. We just indulged in a massive breakfast, so food is “off the table.” Ha. Dad joke.
“This is my first time away from the baby,” Therran mumbles, slightly panicking but attempting to hide it underneath a stern expression. Ah, I remember those days…because I still have them. “What am I going to do?!” I pat him on the back and chuckle, but before I have the chance to say a word, I hear Gale gasp in anticipation, which catches my attention.
“Who wants to play Lanceboard?!” Gale shouts as he points to the large event being held on the town square, where it seems a competition is in place. Halsin, Therran and I stare at one another with a blank expression, our jaws hanging as we try to figure out how to answer him.
“Uh….” We all chime in unison, stumbling on how to respond to the nerdy wizard – I mean, my sister’s husband.
I feel bad that he's the only one out of all of us that has interest in this particular hobby.
“That sounds– erm, sorry Gale. I can't lie, that sounds lame,” I comment first, taking one for the team. I know exactly what the others were thinking, and their sighs of relief confirm I’m correct. “But maybe…before we head back home…you can partake in a game? It seems there's a lot of willing participants.”
“Yes! I mean… Indubitably, that sounds divine.”
We continue to stroll through the city, trying to figure out what to do as a group of four grown men.
“WOW, do we really not know anything outside of fatherhood?” I sounded a little irritated, but I don't really know what to do outside of parenting a forever-newborn baby. “How do we adult without the responsibilities of taking care of a baby?”
“Beats me, I feel like Emmy is constantly popping out children and this is the first break I've caught in ages. Don't get me wrong, I love my babies, but when she suggested we all take a break… You have no idea how thrilled I was when she brought it up.”
“Aw, Gale. Well, since we’re all moving into the castle together, we will need to find a way to hang out more often. Just us guys,” Therran responds, smiling at our brother-in-law with sincerity. That isn't the worst idea, actually. We've had a few heart-to-heart moments, but I would love to get closer with him if at all possible. I often wonder how he truly feels about me honestly.
I feel a strong grip from Halsin’s hand on my shoulder, so I quickly turn to meet his gaze.
“Look. An axe throwing place. We could all partake in that. If that suits your interest, of course,” he suggests with a wholesome voice. As my face lights up, Therran squeals from excitement, which reminds me too much of our sister. Gale shrugs, not exactly opposed to the idea.
“I could dabble in some axe throwing despite my clumsiness. I mean, what's the worst that could happen? We’re immortal after all,” Gale comments, expressing his keenness on the idea.
“Oh I don't know Gale, we could end up murdering someone. Chance of them being immortal are pretty slim. But! Don't listen to me! Let's go,” I respond, my hand laced in Halsin’s hand as we make our way to the axe-throwing facility. Gale gulps nervously as he follows, and I can hear his very faint voice as soft as a whisper:
“Oh goodie.”

Heart of the Weave; Part 4
Chapter 44

I woke up that morning to the sound of Aelric playing with Halsin. Gale is keeping the other babies occupied from the sounds of it, but I do recall him giving me a kiss on the neck before he woke up this morning. That's all I remember.
My eyes open to the sight of my brothers’ butts – clothed, mind you – right in front of my face.
“Ahhh!” I shriek, nearly falling off the bed but they both grab my arms before I faceplant. “I didn't need that JUMPSCARE this morning!”
“What do you mean? We’re wearing pants,” Therran comments, a cheesy smile on both his face and Fanden’s. I rub my eyes with my sleeves, still trying to wake up. I should’ve expected something like this would happen.
“Your butts are a deadly weapon, Therran.” He shrugs, then proceeds to pull me in for a hug. I wrap my arms around him, smiling as my head is buried into his chest. “Ugh. Anyway, I better go make sure Gale is alright, and I'm due for all the baby snuggles.”
I step into the living area, where Aelric seems overjoyed to see me. He slept with us last night, but I do have to wonder how early he got out of bed and why I didn't wake up. Ah, whatever.
“Good morning, little Aelric!” I pick him up in my arms and spin him around. “You seem full of energy this morning.”
“Uncle Halsin is making a yummy breakfast and he gave me freshly squeezed juice!” That explains it, but I can't say I'm complaining at all. I place him down on the ground, then bend down to his level to look him in the eyes. I smile, watching my beautiful son light up with the joys of life.
“Tomorrow, we move into the castle. Are you ready?” He nods rapidly, then begins to dance wildly across the floor. Gale and I smile as we observe our little guy, realizing he really does have a lot of my traits. Poor Gale, all of our kids are mostly like me. At least Aelric looks like him.
Jenevelle is lying on her belly, watching the other babies as she lifts her head up. I pick up my darling daughter, giving her smooches across her chunky cheeks. She giggles and kicks her feet, then proceeds to release a loud sound from her bottom that could shake up a whole room.
“Gee, that sounds like someone we know,” Fanden comments under his breath as he smiles and glances at me with those crimson eyes. I try glaring at him and passing a serious look, but I end up laughing instead. God, I love my brothers.
“I think it was more than just a fart… Gale, my sweet, loving husband, could you–”
“Nah-ah, Mrs. Dekarios, I took care of the last one and fed her in the early hours of the day.” I groan and lean my head back as I take her into Onyx and Delsii’s room. My brothers follow me with their babies, as if they're coming in there for the same reason. I place her on one of the changing mats while Fanden places Onyx on the other one.
“So our children just simultaneously poop together now, in perfect harmony?”
“No, but I did come in here to tell you that we’re all having a big celebration dinner tonight with our friends. Since, you know, tomorrow is moving day.” Damn, I'm going to miss my friends. Part of me hopes that they decide to move in with us last minute or even just sometime down the road. Of course, there's always visiting, but it's going to suck not being as close to them.
“I’m definitely down for that.” I sigh as I get Jenevelle cleaned up, feeling just a wave of sadness take over my body as I stare out the window for a moment. I see Karlach and Wyll sitting out in the meadow behind their house, kissing one another as they're curled up in an embrace under the morning sky.
“Emmy?” Therran asks, snapping me out of my trance. “Is everything alright?”
“Yeah, yeah. I'm okay, I promise.” I pick up Jenevelle and hold her close to my chest, feeling her tiny hand touch my cheek delicately. Therran and Fanden both smile as they observe my tiny baby comfort me in her own special way, though it's uncertain if that's what she's actually doing considering she's forever a 4-month-old baby. I approach Therran and lean down to look at Delsii, placing a kiss on her little nose. “And good morning to you, miss Delsii Mae. God, it's a little insane how much you look like your dad. I will hold you once Therran – sorry, your father – gets your booty changed.”
“I was about to say, how dare you use my legal name in front of my daughter?!” Therran teases, then smothers his baby with kisses. I roll my eyes playfully as I leave the room, mostly because the smell of breakfast food is calling my name.
After indulging in the most important meal of the day, I end up on the verge of a food coma and find myself lying on the comfortable carpet with not one baby, but three; the tiefling infants are curled up in each arm and Jenevelle is lying happily on my chest, drooling all over my neck. While it's gross, it isn't the worst thing I've encountered with her.
“I think our Emmy is living the dream,” Fanden mutters as he playfully elbows Gale. “She's meant for this. I love how amazing she is with Onyx. And the others, of course…” He thinks he's being quiet, but joke’s on him, I hear every word he's saying. Everyone watches me as I lie here in pure bliss, and I wouldn't change it for the world. I love these babies.
“She truly is a wonderful mother and auntie, isn't she?” Gale responds, and I notice an admirable smile from not only my husband, but Halsin and my brothers as well as they observe me lying comfortably with the children. Aelric is still eating breakfast and he's on his second plate. I have a horrible feeling he's going through a growth spurt that I'm not ready to address.
As I lie here, I come up with a fabulous idea.
“Say, boys, how about I stay here with all the children and you four go out and have some guy time for a little while? Baby free, talk about other things than being a dad, and…just relax. I've got it covered over here.” They all hesitate, looking at one another in pure shock as they listen to the words coming out of my mouth.
“Wait, really? Emmy, that's so nice of you, but that's three infants and a toddler. Are you sure?” Halsin asks, but I can tell he's thrilled at the idea of getting out for a little while.
“I mean…I'm smothered with babies right now and I'm loving it. Yes, I'm sure.”
“Another reason why we love our baby girl so much. Thank you,” Fanden mentions. Gale kneels down next to me and smiles, playing with my hair in a twirling fashion as I lie here comfortably with the babies.
“I love you. So much. Are you sure you'll be okay?” I stare seriously into those luscious brown eyes of his that reminds me of pools of chocolate, my lips curling into a smile as he continues to brush strands of my hair.
“Gale, my darling, I'll be perfectly fine. Go partake in…dude activities…whatever that consists of. Whether it be drinking, shoving food down your throat, or farting… I don't care. Just have fun.” Gale bites his bottom lip, trying not to laugh hysterically at my whimsical words of wisdom.
Alright, babysitting my niece and nephew, as well as fun shenanigans with my own children. I wonder what kind of nonsense we can get into on this fine morning.

WIP whenever ~
(thank you for the tag @loserscardigan !!)
I just started on "Heart of the Weave: Part 5" which will actually contain some angst. Here's chapter 1 🤭
Three months of living royally in the exquisite, luxurious castle, where life couldn't be more perfect. I wake up every morning to the sight of the vibrant green hills outside my window, and tall sunflowers that are practically begging me to pick them. Which I end up doing every now and then.
Aelric is finally four years old, and his new favorite hobby is crafting bracelets for people. He's ridiculously talented, so we are selling them for ten gold pieces at the markets every week. He's saved up quite a bit of money!
While Gale teaches every morning until lunch time, my brothers and I take the babies outside to gaze at the beautiful scenery in front of us. Mornings are perfect for this, considering the skies are tinted with a gorgeous shade of pink. In fact, this is exactly what we’re doing at this moment in time.
I sit down in between Fanden and Therran on the very large, thick green quilt, with our babies lying in front of us.
“Don't go far, Aelric! Just to where the meadow is,” I call out to my adventurous son, who is beyond dying to pick out some flowers. He carries his basket to the field just a couple feet away, exploring all the variants of plants he can find.
Delsii begins fussing just a little as we sit here, spitting out her pacifier as she begins to grunt like she's in pain. Therran sighs as he picks her up, holding his little girl against his chest.
“Lae’zel and I are taking her to a healer tomorrow to see what could be going on. Her left leg is…crooked. She keeps acting like something is really hurting her and it's breaking my heart,” Therran mumbles, gently bouncing his baby girl as she cries. I notice sadness in his orange eyes as he stares down at his tiny baby. “I know she's only three months old, but she's not growing much at all, other than her horns are about to come in. So, that’s also causing her discomfort.”
“Oh Ther… I hope she's okay. Do we need to come with? Just like how you've been there for me all these times?” I ask as I continue to eye Delsii curled up in Therran’s arms. He smiles lightly at my offering, but shakes his head.
“No, this one is…personal. But I appreciate your offering, baby girl. That means a lot.” Delsii begins to calm down after a moment, her bottom lip quivering as the cries come to a halt. I can tell something is on Therran’s mind, but he's hesitant on saying anything.
“I'll ask Halsin when we get inside if he has any herbal remedies for her that might help, even just temporarily. If not for the leg, I know he has something for the horns coming in,” Fanden suggests as he locks his worried gaze on our brother. Therran nods, a light smile curling on his lips and it's clear he appreciates our brother’s words.
“Yes please. Anything will help at this point… Thank you, Fanden.”
He places Delsii back down on the quilt, where she stares at baby Onyx curiously. I peek down at her little bare leg, noticing exactly what my brother is referring to. Her left leg is crooked, and it appears she struggles to bend it. I have a suspicion it has to do with the traumatizing birth, and I can't help but feel beyond responsible for this.
Delsii finally smiles, staring up at the morning sky and sticking her tongue out cutely. She seems to feel a little better at least, thank goodness for that.
Lae’zel comes outside just moments later with the stroller, noticing us all relaxing and enjoying the early morning sunrise with the castle directly behind us. She leans down to gently pick up Delsii and hold her comfortably in her arms.
“Good morning, my joys. I'm going to do a little bonding with our daughter before I leave again in a couple of days.” Therran stands up and hugs his wife sweetly as they exchange words. They kiss one another intimately for just a moment, smiling as their daughter coos and takes hold of a few pieces of Therran’s long, silver hair.
Jenevelle begins kicking her feet and squealing ecstatically, so I pick her up in my arms and give her smooches all over, which causes her to giggle uncontrollably. Aelric approaches us with a basket full of colorful flowers, and he begins reaching into it.
“Uncle Fanden, I found one really cool flower that made me think of you. Like, the coolest ever!” Fanden smiles and tilts his head as he observes my son reaching into his basket.
“The coolest, huh? You thought of me?”
“Well, yeah! You're super neat!” My brothers and I laugh at his sweet yet humorous comment. He pulls out a very vibrant blue flower that’s nothing like I've ever seen before. It's about as big as Jenevelle’s head, with one long yellow streak on each indigo petal. Fanden’s eyes widen as Aelric hands him the unusual yet beautiful flower.
“Whoa. This one is cool, little dude! Thank you. I'll be sure to put it in my room somewhere. I think Halsin will really like it too.” Aelric’s smile lights up his adorable, squishy face, and I can tell he's beyond excited at how much Fanden enjoyed the flower. He reaches back into his basket to give one to Therran.
“And Uncle Therran, this one made me think of you. And Delsii too!” He pulls out another large flower with the same design and size as the other one, only this time it’s a vibrant peach color with pink streaks on each petal. “The pink reminded me of Delsii’s pretty pink skin, and the orange made me think of your super badass horns!”
I nearly choke on my own spit at Aelric’s sudden cursing, while my brothers are laughing hysterically.
“Aelric, language!”
“Sorry, mum.” He hands the flower over to Therran, who is fighting tears from the adorable gesture. The fact my son even mentioned Delsii was very heartwarming, especially to my brother.
“Aelric, that's so sweet. Thank you. Your parents raised you right, that's for sure.” I smile, feeling a warm sensation course through my cheeks; Gale and I really did a good job.
“You're very welcome! Mum, I didn't find a flower for you yet, but I will later. Can we eat breakfast?” He places his hands on his belly and begins patting it aggressively. “This belly can only go so long without eating something, and it's roaring at me like an owlbear.” I smile at my darling son as I stand up with Jenevelle curled up comfortably in my arms.
“You bet. Let's go.”

Heart of the Weave: Part 4
Chapter 43

Nothing soothes my soul quicker than cooking up a fantastic dinner for my family, and as much as Gale wanted to help, I practically told him to go to time-out. So he read Aelric and all three babies a book that was once Neeve’s favorite as a toddler. It was a delight to listen to as I chopped up the vegetables.
We finish a delicious meal of roasted potatoes, sourdough bread with homemade raspberry jam, squash, and chopped up venison. As Therran and Fanden get their babies changed and dressed for bed, I pick up Jenevelle and prepare her to be all snuggled up in the bassinet located in the spare bedroom where Gale and I will be sleeping. Luckily she's small enough to fit in there. Aelric is sleeping in our bed for the next couple of nights.
Once all children are settled in bed, Halsin, my brothers, Gale, and myself all gather around the large kitchen table for a night of board games and some wine.
“Watch out, Emmy is really competitive. Last time we played a board game, it was with Shadowheart and Karlach, and–”
“I may have flipped the table,” I interrupt my husband as I take a swig of my wine. “To be fair, I was pregnant with Aelric and dealing with raging hormones at the time.”
“Then explain the times before that.” I sit here in silence, trying to think of ways to explain my past competitive behaviors but alas my brain has left the building. “That's what I thought.”
“I won't flip the table this time.” Fanden crosses his arms and leans back in his chair, a familiar smirk growing on his lips as he stares me down with those crimson eyes. I stand up and slam my fists on the table excitedly. “I say we play that one game with the mindflayers and latters. What was it called again?”
“Mindflayers and Latters?”
“That's the one!”
“Emmy, no, we’re not playing that.”
“What? Why not?” I notice Therran fighting the urge to laugh as Fanden and I go at it with our banter. Fanden sighs and looks me dead in the eye with a stare that was an attempt at being serious, but I can see a smile fighting to show itself on his face. I don't know if it's the wine or Fanden’s stare, but I can't control my giggling.
“Because, baby sister, you're too competitive and there is no doubt you're bound to release your inner Gortash.” Gale spits out his wine, unable to contain his fit of laughter.
“Fanden, you liar! I'm not that competitive.”
“You see this scar? The one on my left ear? This is from when we played Pictionary.”
“I always wondered where that scar came from. I assumed it was from Bhaal related incidents, if I'm being completely honest,” Halsin chimes in, rubbing my brother’s back calmly with his hand. He then proceeds to kiss Fanden’s ear-scar. “Good to know that's not the case.”
“Yeah, no. Just my sister. Ugh! Fine, brat, we will play Mindflayers and Latters. But you have to answer a question for me.” I raise an eyebrow, curious as to what question could possibly be lingering in his mind right now. I have an inkling it has to do with a subject from earlier today.
“And what question would that be?”
“Why were you bullied in school?” I clear my throat, wishing that wasn't the question he was going to ask. I stare restlessly at the room around me, trying to find a way to escape the question.
“Next!”
“Emmy. There is no other question.” I sigh, leaning my shoulders back as I sit comfortably in my chair. Halsin stands up to grab the board game from the closet close by.
“It was…my horns. For years, people always made fun of me because they couldn't tell if I was a tiefling or an elf. ‘You have no tail but you have horns, you weirdo.’ That was one I heard a lot. Or… ‘What kind of creature are you?!’ Needless to say, I didn't have any friends until adulthood… After I got a tadpole in my brain that was going to turn me into a mindflayer. That's when I met my lifelong friends.” Fanden is silent as he stares at me with eyes filled with melancholy, speechless at my words. He shuts his eyes so tight you’d think his head would explode, and a heavy exhale escapes his mouth as he begins to speak.
“Sissy, baby, it's all my fault…”
“Fanden, don't you dare keep blaming yourself. We’re in a new, healthier era of ourselves. You cursed yourself too, not expecting that outcome. Now shut your face and let’s not dwell on the past.”
“Emmy…” I stand up from my seat and approach my sad brother, placing my hands on his face and staring at him dead in the eye. I squeeze his face and place a kiss on his nose.
“I said stop it.” He chuckles and nods, accepting I win this round. I can tell he’s still going to be bothered and drenched with the lingering effects of guilt, but I'll find a way to make him stop. “Now! I'm here for a good time and a long time, so shall we?”
The evening ended up super fun, and I managed to resist the urge of competitiveness. Okay, I'll admit, I was still competitive, but it wasn't as brutal as my previous games with Gale. And apparently Fanden that one time many months ago.
Before we move on to the next game, Therran’s baby girl begins to cry, so he steps away for a moment.
“Excuse me while I check on my mini-me,” he says as he grabs a fresh bottle off the counter. I decide to follow him shortly after he makes it into the other room. I open the door, quietly observing Therran sitting in the rocking chair, smiling down at his little girl as he's feeding her a warm bottle. “You’re daddy’s baby girl. Always will be. And I love you more than words will ever be able to express… Emmy, are you spying on me?”
How did he know I was here? I stay silent for a moment, waiting to see if he’ll notice me because I'm an unhinged buffoon.
“I can see your shadow, you goof.”
“No one said I was dexterous,” I mumble as I reveal myself. “Hey you.”
“Coming to see your little niece, hm?”
“I could hold a baby as long as she didn't poop.” Therran chuckles, continuing to feed his little girl as his gaze shifts from her to me. “Nah, she should probably get some sleep. I'll hold her tomorrow. Say, about Fanden… If you'll keep an eye on him, don't let him beat himself up over what we talked about earlier.”.
“Of course, baby girl. I know he hates himself for what he's done in the past, and on occasion he still talks about it all. Every now and then there's tears involved. We just have to remind him that isn't who he is anymore, that it was all an affliction.” I nod in agreement and smile at my warm-hearted brother, who in return gives a smile back at me.
“Thanks, Ther-bear. And you're right. I'll see you in the living room for another round of games, yeah?” A soft chuckle escapes his breath as he begins to burp baby Delsii.
“You got it, punk.”

Heart of the Weave; part 4
Chapter 42

Two days.
Two more fucking days until we move into the castle, and I am beyond ecstatic for the future ahead. I'll be living with my family, but the castle is so huge it's like there won't be much of a difference anyway. Plus, we’ll be close to Neeve and Morena once again. That'll be a breath of fresh air!
Delsii is now a whopping eight days old, and attached to her daddy’s hip. Lae’zel will be leaving for the astral planes for two weeks, which will be tough on all of them; this time, she won't be gone nearly as long. I just hope Therran will be okay… At least he has us.
“Well, most of the necessities are packed. I believe your father said there's a crib already set up in Jenevelle’s room, and Aelric’s bedroom is all ready to go. Luckily, their rooms are on each side of ours. So…we can't be too loud when partaking in the acts of passion,” Gale mentions as he finally plops down on the sofa after a long afternoon of getting our necessities ready for the move.
“Daddy, what's an act of passion?” I nearly spit out my tea as Aelric asks him the question no one expected to have to answer. I shift my gaze at Gale, crossing my arms as I try to fight a rage of laughter. Emmy Dekarios does not answer the questions that Gale instigates.
“Um… It's when your mother and father love each other very much, and they… Cast a lot of magic together in the bedroom. For instance, I once cast ‘Otto’s Irresistible Dance' while your mother–”
“Even that story isn't appropriate, Gale. Not for his ears, anyway. Ahem. Aelric, don't repeat ‘act of passion' when you attend school.” Aelric giggles as he begins to bolt across the house with his favorite stuffed wolf.
“No promises, mommy!” Dude, you're three years old. How do you already have this much sass?
Since our entire house is basically packed up, we will be staying the next two nights with my brothers and Halsin until then. They’ll have everything packed the day of moving; plus Lae’zel plans on packing her own things when she gets back.
“You think they're tired of us yet?” I ask Gale as I grab Jenevelle’s bag and throw it over my shoulder. I just realized I have so many opportunities to prank them, but the question is if I'll impulsively indulge in those urges.
“If they did, would they have offered to have us stay with them, love? Without us mentioning it first?” Damn it Gale, always outsmarting me. “I could see the look of excitement in Therran’s eyes when he asked us if we wanted to stay.”
I turn around to look at my precious home once more before we head to my brothers’ house next door. I admire the work we put into it, the memories over the past couple years, and begin feeling all the love that was shared as we lived here.
“Are you alright, my angel?” Gale’s voice is like a beautiful melody one would listen to under the silver moon. I smile as I shift my gaze onto him, feeling excited for the next chapter ahead.
“Never better.”
“Let's go see Uncle Fanden and Therran!” Aelric begins bolting out the door, so of course we chase after the little rugrat.
“Come back here, you little stinker!” As I chase after him, I see my brothers relaxing on the porch with their babies, and Halsin is milking the goats. Therran is sitting in the rocking chair while feeding Delsii a bottle as she's cradled in his arms, and Fanden is just burping little Onyx. They smile ecstatically as my son approaches them, their eyes lighting up as my son calls out their names.
“...And here comes our baby sister!” Therran cheers as Gale and I approach the porch with our packs full of clothes. Our other luggage is on the carriage, so luckily we don't have too much to worry about. I place Jenevelle’s rocker on the deck in between Fanden and Therran’s chairs, and Gale leans down to snuggle her in it comfortably so she can enjoy the spring-time air.
“Ready for your innocent, precious sister to cause chaos within the household?” I tease. “I have a ton of fruits and vegetables in my basket I need to go back and grab. Yours truly will make a delicious feast tonight as a thanks for letting us stay a couple nights.” My brothers smile at me, though Fanden of course raises an eyebrow as if he's about to tell me no.
“You don't need to do that, baby girl.”
“I want to! Plus, I love to cook. Gale and I sometimes argue in the kitchen about who is going to make dinner.” My brothers glare at Gale, who is quick to widen his eyes. How dare anyone argue with their little sister?!
“Let it be known, it's playful banter!” Gale chimes in defensively, to which leads me to get up on my tip-toes and kiss his cheek cutely. “Thank you, baby.”
“So, we have a various arrangement of board games for us to play tonight once the littles are asleep, if you're all up for it, of course,” Halsin mentions with two large buckets full of goat's milk in each hand. I can feel my face practically going numb from the excitement, and without intention, I release a little squeal.
“I take it you enjoy board games?”
“Halsin, you have no idea. My mum and I would always play them when I was a kid. Especially after a hard day at school. I was bullied a lot, so other than music, they were my escape.” My brothers’ smiles fade as I explain my reasoning behind my love for board games. I don't think they're too keen on the fact I was bullied a lot growing up.
“Bullied? No, what? Why would anyone want to bully you?” Fanden asks, a hint of sadness in his voice and within his eyes. I clear my throat.
“Beats me. Shall we go inside and play some board games?” Even Gale looks worried, but what they all don't realize is that I was a child. I don't even remember the names of the horrible kids that beat me up and called me names.
I don't want to bring it up to Fanden.
When I was a kid, and up until Fanden’s resurrection just several months after Jenevelle’s birth, I had horns that were cursed to me. People made fun of me for those horns, and it was a traumatic experience for sure. I grew to love them of course, but they vanished when Fanden was revived from his death and cured of his evil affliction.
When Fanden was a child, that's when I was cursed with them. So…that's sort of why I don't want to talk about it. I don't want him to feel guilty over what happened, and I most certainly don't want to bring up his past to him.

Heart of the Weave: part 4
(part 4 will soon be uploaded on AO3)
Chapter 41

“So what happened exactly? How did you get harmed? Gods, Asher… You could've gotten killed!” Karlach exclaims, her face expressing heavy emotions. I'm just as curious as she is. Gods. I'm really regretting this entire ordeal because everything has gone to shit since the moment we arrived. Though, I will say, I'm glad Delsii arrived safely; that's one miracle at least.
“A…bear…or what I thought was a bear, anyway.”
“What you thought? Asher, honey, what do you mean?” Shadowheart asks her son, placing her unoccupied hand on his shoulder that isn't holding Annaliese. Asher closes his eyes and inhales heavily as he tries to recall the events that happened.
“It looked like a bear, but I remember seeing a green aura around it, almost like a fog of sorts. It was ghastly. I think someone had wild shaped into the bear, or worse…”
Noted. Stay the fuck inside.
“I'm so glad you're okay… Asher, as your auntie, I mean this in the kindest way possible: don't be a reckless idiot. We love you too much.” Asher smiles and nods in agreement, though now I guess it doesn't matter if he's reckless or not. He's an immortal vampire.
Darcy, Waverly, and I are in the living area, hanging out with Onyx, Delsii, and Jenevelle, while Aelric is playing with the older kids – erm, younger adults – in the play room across the hall. He absolutely loves spending time with Neeve. The others? Well, they're all catching up and chatting across the room, leaving my two friends and I to catch up for a bit.
I notice Therran keeping a sharp eye on Delsii as she's being cuddled in Darcy’s arms, being quiet as the tiniest mouse yet observing Darcy's vibrant, crimson hair. Waverly is holding Onyx, and I can tell she's about to explode from the cute innocence of the little guy. She seems beyond ecstatic as he looks up at her with his tiny hand wrapped around her finger.
“Gods…I almost want another baby,” Waverly murmurs, smiling down at Onyx in her arms. “He's just so little. Fanden’s so lucky he has a forever-newborn!” I snicker at her comment as I look down at Jenevelle, reminding myself that while it is nice sometimes, there are struggles that get a little tedious.
“I wouldn't go that far,” Fanden chimes in from across the room in response to her comment. “There are definitely some downsides.”
“True, you always have the risk of dropping the baby in the toilet, or…he gets grabbed by a hawk while you're sitting on the porch. Oh my gods, that's so scary!”
“Oh you sweet summer child,” Darcy mutters under her breath as she rocks Delsii delicately in her arms, looking down at the tiny baby that relaxes comfortably in her hold.
“I was thinking more along the lines of endless bottles and blowouts, but now a new fear has been unlocked. Thank you, Waverly.”
“I live to serve, Fanden.”
After a moment, Delsii begins to cry, causing Therran to nearly bolt out of his seat, a look of worry expressed on his face. Darcy stands up with Delsii still in her arms, then grabs a diaper and cloth wipes out of her bag that sits on the rocking chair nearby. She approaches Therran and proceeds to throw the baby items at his face.
“Damn, for a second I thought you were going to change her,” Therran teases, trying not to laugh. Darcy snickers, a sassy look appearing on her face immediately.
“Ha! That’s hilarious. Besides, this is her very first poop, don't you want to be there for that?”
“Not really.”
“Too damn bad. Take the baby.” Therran delicately takes Delsii from Darcy’s arms, smiling down at his adorable daughter and trying to calm her. You can just see the love in his eyes as he observes her, carefully and protectively cradling her in his hold.
“Sssh… It's okay. Daddy's here. I'll get you changed. Lae’zel– Oh wait, I forgot she's bathing. More for me, I suppose.” He takes his upset baby into the other room, and I smile as he walks away, feeling a sense of happiness as I observe him embrace the joys of parenthood.
Moments later, I end up falling asleep on the sofa with Jenevelle passed out on my chest. I don't even remember lying here or even closing my eyes, but I guess exhaustion takes its toll eventually. All I know is that I was supposed to nap with Gale, and I'm mad at myself for not following through with that promise.
“Pssst, sleepy girl, wake up.” I hear a familiar voice trying to interrupt my princess slumber. I feel a hand gently shake my body. “Our pretty little baby with the cutest face.”
“Fandennnn,” I grumble, then turn my face the other way where he can't see me. “I know it's you. What do you want?”
“Ha! Sassy Emmy is the BEST,” Darcy commented, which is shocking how she can hear me from all the way in the kitchen. “Say more words, girlfriend.” I can almost hear Fanden roll his eyes.
“The snow is melting, and everyone is packing their things. Gale has your stuff packed and now working on getting the kids’ stuff. Asher, Astarion, and Shadowheart just got back from hunting and stated they saw the carriage about a mile away.” I open my eyes and turn back the other direction, noticing my brothers both sitting down next to me with bright smiles lighting up their handsome faces.
“Aw, there’s our Emmy girl,” Therran adds, then leans in to pick up Jenevelle so I can stand up. I feel much more refreshed than before, thank the Gods. While getting away for a bit was a nice mild change, I’m ready to be back and prepare our move to the castle. It'll be interesting living with my brothers and parents, but I’ll also be closer to Neeve. “Lae’zel is napping with Delsii while I get our stuff packed for the ride home. Can you guys believe it?! Just a few short weeks before we move into a castle together!”
“I'll miss you guys so much,” Karlach comments, then sighs. “Then again, I'll be visiting Waterdeep a lot to see Maddox. So, I guess it won't hurt us too bad.”
“Are you sure you don't want to move in with us? There's plenty of rooms,” I ask, but it was more of a plead than anything. It will be sad moving away from all our friends after being next door neighbors for so long. “The offer will always stand.”
“Thank you. We will continue living in our little area with all the land for now, at least until I accidentally burn something down or I miss you too much,” Karlach responds, and I notice Wyll rolling his eyes playfully. Judging by that look he's giving, I sense Karlach will burn something down. On ‘accident.’
