Transitus Comic Studies

These were meant to be colored but alas. Faulty art supplies. Still like these sketches though! They’re lifted from the OG comic book. The idea was to only use direct poses and scenes from the source material and try to infuse some more productive character design into them.

Focus on status of a given character (and changes in it) and some stronger air of historical reference, kept as far away from my own personal head canons of the characters and their backstories as possible.

Really had fun with these. Great figure practice ✏️

absolutely love the George/Bertha dynamic where they are very good for each other but toxic to anyone else. when i call them a toxic couple i don't mean they are dysfunctional or unhappy i mean they are enabling each other's crusade against the rest of the world

Never have I ever drawn five full pages of really solid character studies only to start coloring and realize that the paper has the weirdest possible reaction to alcohol markers, in that the ink solidifies over the paper’s surface, creating a glossy texture that makes it impossible to go over in pencil or blend colors correctly.

This one came out okay, though. OG comic panel by Felix Vega (right).

Decided against sharing “bitchy Transitus character design notes by Maggie” because “everything deserves rounded criticism” is actually a really stupid argument in regards to a silly concept album only ten people like, most of which will probably see that post and just be really bummed out after reading. And I don’t have to, so.

Okay I’m kind of on the fence here, I wanna do an essay/critique on Transitus’ (Ayreon) character design but I’m not sure how to format it.

The second one, keep in mind, would be much longer and infinitely more bitchy. Like almost every piece negative feedback I have on the album’s story and visuals rolled into one. Seems like overkill but it’s the only way I feel I can get my point across. Which is why I’m asking 🫡
