Image one: The Bad Kids and The Rat Grinders square up in the middle of the school cafeteria. Above their heads is written, "The Bad Kids vs The Rat Grinders."
Image two: From left to right - Adaine readies her magically glowing hand, Gorgug cracks his knuckles, Fig pages Colin Counterspell on her earpiece, Riz hisses, and Fabian steadies Kristen as she smirks down at Kipperlilly.
Image three: From left to right - Kipperlilly glares up at Kristen, Buddy looks on worriedly, Oisin has a hand on Kipperlilly's shoulder as he tries to intervene, Mary Anne has a deadpan stare, Ruben poses moodily, and Ivy smirks behind Oisin.
For me the funniest thing to come out of the goncharov meme was not any of the fake scenes or the nyt articles about it or whatever but the fact that due to the fact that he'd found it funny when I told him about it I got my dad several books by ivan goncharov for christmas that year as a joke fully expecting him to not even touch them BUT to everyone's surprise he read every single one cover to cover and liked them so much that he read dostoevsky and then read tolstoy and then pushkin and then gogol and now barely reads anything that isn't nineteenth century russian literature and also has started watching academic talks about crime and punishment and will randomly bring up shit like the politics present in bulgakov's writing in at LEAST half of our conversations. all because of goncharov
I like labru as a ship because imagine kabru still doing his "fake/manipulative" thing because it's a mask he can't put down, and in the privacy of their relationship it does Not matter to Laois who knows him and judges people by their actions, so whatever mannerisms kabru chooses to try out that day arent a big deal, but to Marcille it Clearly looks like kabru is gold digging and 'tricking' laois in the relationship and she keeps going insane trying to point it out
I don't like Labru as a ship but it is Incredibly funny if you think of it's coexistence with Farcille in a way that Falin would not care but Marcille would absolutely hate having to see Kabru so often
( also a huge fan of the idea of Marcille showing up at Chilchuck's store unprompted to just rant about these two and Chilchuck stares at her at firstr but then his inner (and outter) hater wins so they just have these gossip sessions at least twice a week )
i love the dichotomy of neurodivergencies in how falin and laios are portrayed, especially how it pertains to how men and women in the spectrum present differently
laios is incredibly obviously autistic. he can't read a room, he loves to bring up things he loves at every opportunity, he likes to feel prepared for every situation. he's also loud, personable, and kind.
falin (from her limited screen time so far imsorryihaventreadthemanga) shares a lot of traits with laios. she's kind, friendly, and loves to discuss her interests, but won't bring them up unless someone initiates. she's also very quiet and doesn't start conversations as much as joining them.
they're both clearly on the spectrum, but falin i think has made herself more tolerable, which is why people like shuro like her but not laios. like a lot of women with autism, she's learned to squash her more abrasive traits to be likeable
You're so right, and also I remember not liking ragh! The ball thing with riz made me So sad that first day. And Aelwyn being snarky to her sister INFURIATED me in the same way that kipperlilly's character is infuriating.
But you let it simmer, you get to explore why these KIDS are the way they are and enjoy the plot.
The harm that those first season villains caused was real and sucked. They needed to make amends for that. But that character had so much more to them and now I Love Them, why would we think third season villains would be any different, especially when we can SEE who's manipulating them.
it really does drive me crazy trying to interact with any of the popular fantasy high posts on here. because people will say with their whole chest they hate and have got no sympathy for the rat grinders and that a) jawbone should've punched kipperlilly for coming to him with her Undiagnosed Mental Health Issues (you know, like the ones adaine used to have in freshman year?) b) the bad kids should take them all someplace to 6v1 them one by one and cold blooded murder them (??????) c) whole heartedly hate and make fun of them for being scared and alone and dead when they went on an adventure with a teacher and adult who was supposed to PROTECT them in a place they weren't prepared for.
the rat grinders were just. normal students. they are more like you than you could ever be like the bad kids. they were mid & they didn't want to be so they pushed themselves too fast too far and now all of them have got the worst survivor's guilt on earth on top of actively having to serve the rage incarnation of a dead god.
if you have the cognitive dissonance where one of the bad kids was in the plot line and you'd be drawing fanart making angsty meta crying about your poor baby forced into a bad situation and turn around and go 'lol nah shoot THESE guys in the head though' when it's an NPC I can only assume you've not understood narrative parallels or learned empathy past, like, a kindergarten level
While we're at it: using language that downplays genocide is a form of genocide denial.
Joe Biden isn't doing a bad job, Joe Biden is providing material support for genocide.
Israel isn't handling the situation badly, Israel is committing genocide.
Employing euphemisms minimizes the reality of this genocide. It's disrespectful and dangerous.
If you are more uncomfortable with the word genocide than you are with the reality of genocide, then you are not prepared to be part of any serious discussion. Work on that on your own time.
