This was the last con I did a cosplay for, over ten years ago. I was princess Batman. Nichelle Nichols liked it so much she gave me a hug without me asking. Everyone was so nice.
My disability started getting a lot worse around that time and I stopped going to cons so much. Before that, I had gone to emerald City comicon every year for almost twenty years. I miss going.

Hey perisex people, who the fuck cares what intersex people identify with. It's not your fucking business. In general, stop fucking asking people about their agab and body parts. People will identify with whatever feels comfortable and if you don't like it, it's no one's problem but yours. Stop trying to be the HOA of identity.
Also while I'm here please stop using slurs.

We had an all staff meeting at work today. And our hr person showed us a PowerPoint about the importance of mental health and how we, as employees, can help each other and how much our leadership cares and wants to help us.
I was so fucking mad.
So when they asked for feedback, I pointed out that our entire team is understaffed and burnt out. The leadership said, well people can take mental health days because they have PPO. And I said, people are coming in with the fucking flu because they have so much work, they can't take a day off. And a coworker added that if they call in sick, then theres nobody who can cover for them and events we are contacted to put on can't happen.
They had no good answer for this. Such a shit show.

OK, all the "what animal would you be" spinners have kind of boring options. So I made a list of less common critters.
So you've been turned into an animal.
Spin the wheel to find out which one.
Put in the tags whether you had to look up the animal you got.
I got most of the animal ideas from @vintagewildlife

I saw some art I liked, and checked out the artist's blog. One of the first things I saw was the OP saying how shitty it was that someone was comparing their art to another, problematic, artist. I looked up the problematic artist, and saw that they did indeed have terrible, problematic art, and there was one piece that apparently the OP's art was being compared to. It was like, this:
Tumblr media
So I scrolled back on OP's blog, checking out their art, being mad on their behalf because their stuff was way better and nothing like problematic-artist. Then I got to the piece that had sparked the original controversy. And it looked like this:
Tumblr media
And I laughed. It wasn't that their styles were similar at all, the characters weren't similar, nor the colors, nor level of skill. But they had managed to draw the same general pose, composition, and shapes of the problematic-artist's piece, without having any prior knowledge of the other piece.
It's just a bizarre coincidence, and I'm just like, y'all, we have to be able to laugh at ourselves sometimes. We get too precious about our creations. Sometimes, our little guys will remind people of other little guys and that's not an insult, even if the other little guys were created by a shithead.

people assume that being physically disabled makes you more empathetic to the pain of others, but that’s not always the case.
for me, it feels unfair when others are in pain and don’t feel the need to hide that fact, because i have internalized the idea that i’m not allowed to talk about my own. it annoys me that, while most are typically understanding if a non disabled person doesn’t operate at their full capacity due to sickness or injury, disabled people are expected to function normally as if that isn’t our every day. as much as i want to feel solidarity towards a suffering person, it feels impossible not to be envious when their illness or ailment is temporary, but i will never, ever get a break from mine.
for obvious reasons i would never say any of directly to someone, because my pain doesn’t make theirs any less valid or real. still, i can’t help but feel that my disability has made me bitter and unkind, because i can’t help but compare my own experiences with theirs.
this is the reality of disability- it does not create perfect people. many of us are broken and struggle to connect with others because of our conditions, and that does not mean we are evil people
