#NSV When I started my fitness journey, before I had a goal weight I had a goal size. My goal was to no longer be an X anything - not an XXL or an XL. I just wanted to be any regular "straight" size. Today, Old Navy was having a 40% off sale, coupled with Texas' No Tax weekend. I figured it was a good time to stop since more than half of the clothes I brought from CA (which wasn't much) are now noticeably too big on me. Yesterday I put on a dress I wore my 1st day here, and I got lots of compliments that day while put running errands. blbut now the dress is hanging off me like a sack. So I went in and grabbed a couple of shirts off the sale rack - all size Large! I almost thought they wouldn't fit, but I put them on and looked in the mirror and they fine - actually a bit baggy in the waist if anything. Thanks Mom for the hourglass⏳ figure. My mind is still having trouble catching up to my body, what most people see when they look at me is not what I see when I look at my reflection, and I have to admit I still gravitate towards the size 20s when I walk into a store. But little victories like this remind me of how much progress I've made. This time last year I was easily an XXL, if not bigger depending on the style. Now I can walk into a store and grab a Large/12 without even having to try it on. I can't wait to see what a Medium/10 feels like. Keto Week 28 Welcome to Onederland! 🙌🏾 Apparently I lied last week when I said that swimsuit photo was a 70lbs difference, it was actually 82lbs. Turns out my hunch was correct, I've lost about 10lbs since getting to Texas (considering I have been here just over a week I'm not sure how good that is - quick loses tend to be more muscle than fat) which explains why my new pants are already too big. But I'm still happy to be out of the 200s and back into the 100s. I'm not sure when the last time I weighted under 200lbs was. I know around 5th grade (+/- a year) I was about 115lbs. But after that I have no clue. I'd probably have to try to find an old PE Report or go into my Kaiser records or something. Irregardless, 115lbs for a 10-12 year old is still overweight as they're usually in the 75-95lbs range. I promised myself that when I got here (Goal 2 of 3) I would disclose some embarrassing but important information about myself. So here goes: my current weight is 195lbs, and I have lost a total of 82lbs... For those of you not good at math, that makes my starting weight 277lbs 😱 Yep. For the majority of the time that most of the people reading this have known me, I have been close to 300lbs. I know, I know. I never looked like it and I carried it well 💁🏾‍♀️ #GoodGenes but that doesn't mean it didn't have adverse effects on my body and health, or that it didn't effect my self esteem and image. I struggled daily, no, hourly, with confidence, and with being able to physically do the things I wanted. I endured verbal abuse from strangers - and some not so strangers - who commented on my weight and/or appearance. In Jr. High and HS I spent hours crying because I couldn't shop in the same stores and wear the same clothes as my friends. Some of those same "friends" even took part in the name calling and insults. *cough*Ashley Mally*cough*Amy Culmer*cough* I'm saying this because I know many of you understand. Many of you are starting your journey at weights higher than you'd ever want anyone to know. Many of you have been bullied, whispered about, pointed at. Keto Week 27 Pic is a #70lbs difference. I've been in TX for 5 days now and so far unpacked one shoe box. So, obviously I haven't been back on my keto diet yet. I also haven't measured or weighted, but I see a difference in my clothes that I'm sure is stress related. I bought 2 pairs of pants for my new job the day before we left California. One pair is already too big, the other is on its way. With how I have been cheating on my eating, it can only be stress that has me still losing inches. I'm slowly trying to get back to keto. I restocked the kitchen for a cool $165 including fresh wild Alaskan salmon and rib-eye steaks. Last night was a keto dinner: bacon and scrambled eggs with bell peppers. But then there was nothing for breakfast and I had a 6hr training today so ate very non-keto belvita breakfast biscuits. Lunch at training was provided: a sandwich with no cheese. So, I basically ate 6 slices of ham and water for a meal which is keto but bleh so now I'm lookin at potato chips like 😍 I have yet to hit the gym, as it has been 97-103 degrees from 8am-11pm everyday and no breeze. My only workout has been getting from my car to the apartment without dying of dehydration and evaporating away like dust. The struggle is real. But I hope to do some real unpacking this weekend and next weekend. That will cover kitchen and closet, which are my 2 most used spaces. Ryan is planning to head back to the Bay for a bit in the next week or so to tie up some loose ends, and I'd like to be feeling normal and settled before I'm left on my own completely. Oklahoma/Texas friends, I may be needing some extra support those weeks while alone. Ryan has not been adjusting well and it's kinda hilarious. Even in the air-conditioned apartment sitting under a ceiling fan and in front of two box fans, he complains about the heat. He sleeps until about 1 or 2 p.m., hasn't unpacked anything, and keeps asking, "what is that noise??!!" Crickets, Ryan. Keto Week 23 Bootcamp Week 3 Life feels insane right now. Between packing, apartment hunting, working, looking for movers, going to bootcamp, plus a social life I'm forgetting everything and late on everything. For example, late on this post and forgot to take my weekly measurements. I have stuck to my diet, but not tracking the way I should. Usually I'm meticulous about my weighting and tracking and I LOVE IT thank you very much because I'm controlling anyways lol.  But the past few days I've tracked 75%, and just guestimated the other 25%. I also fell off my exercise plan. I still make it to bootcamp 3 days a week, but my 3 home workout days have gone kaput since packing started. By the time I get home, make dinner, and pack a box it's 9pm. There just aren't enough hours in the day. So, I'm trying not to be too hard on myself. Fitness is 70% diet and though I'm not tracking I'm sticking to my diet. Plus it's also THAT week, so I don't expect any loses anyways.  Instead I'm going to focus on the positive  - how far I've come. Looks at that Before and After photo! Last week I was lucky enough to attend the Warriors' final game at Oracle arena and wanted to commemorate the occasion with a shirt. It was slim pickings size-wise, and I ended up with a Large. I was worried it wouldn't fit, but it did - with nothing hanging out, bulging out, or rolling over! Keto Week 22 Bootcamp Week 2 I have made it to a 70lbs lost!! Woooooo! Just 7lbs more until my 2nd milestone, and a much anticipated cheat meal. I snuck the smallest, tiniest, babiest bite of Ryan's chocolate ice cream the other day and it was marvelous. I'm not sure what to attribute to this sudden kickstart in my loses, other than the MCT oil, as my diet hasn't changed since starting keto. But things have certainly gotten back on track and I appreciate it. Bootcamp has been fun in terms of trying new exercises and techniques, getting out of the house, and spending quality time with my Mom. But, it's hard, man. Some of the other classmates can be intimidating, and I'm pretty much convinced the trainer enjoys seeing you struggle since it seems like he pushes until we're crying then laughs about it and sips his coffee. I was in pain from last Tuesday till basically today despite yoga and multiple Epsom salt baths. I'm debating incorporating an additional Rest day into my weekly routine for the rest of the month, as this bootcamp may be too intense for my usual 6 days a week. The heatwave isn't helping as historically I've had headaches and nose bleeds in high heat, so I worry about doing high intensity work with no AC. But I saw that one of his recommended 2019 Intentions is to attend a class 4x a week, and I do want to push myself, so, idk... I can definitely see a difference in my muscle definition in my arms and thighs already, so I can't say it's a waste of time that's for sure. I'm excited for the last class, both to be finished and see how my results look. Keto Week 20 TIU Summer Series Week 6 Hello and Happy belated Memorial Day! I spent my weekend at home hiding from society like a typical Scorpio and cleaning out a good 1/2 - 3/4 of my closet with a friend. I have sooooo many empty hangers and space 😍. During my reclusion I also made it to a 61lb loss! There was honestly a point - several in fact - where I never thought I would be able to say that. At times I thought I'd never even be able to say I had a 30lb lose, so to now be double that amount I'm feeling pretty proud of myself and excited to move on towards 70lbs. This is the last week of the #TIUSummerSeries, and it will also mark my 2 month fitiversary - or 2 months since I've been making a consistent effort with working out. Thirty more days and I'll have hopefully formed a habit. For June, my Mom and I are going to do a bootcamp together and I'm scared lol. When I hear bootcamp I think of all the things I've seen in the movies. People dripping with sweat, someone throwing up in the corner, and an instructor yelling at you. I'm sure I'm imagining something much worse than it actually is. But on the other hand I am also a little excited to be starting something new and to be spending some time getting active with my Mom. My body could definitely use the change up since redefining your physique is all about progressive overload and keeping muscles guessing. After 2 straight months of TIU it is beginning to feel a bit stagnant. Plus, it is only a 4 week bootcamp - then I'll be doing the 28 Day #SummerSculpt with @Blogilates (a month late but who's counting?) so I want to push myself in preparation. That plan covers fitness through August and then I'll reevaluate. I'd love to try a Spin or cycling class, barre, and strip aerobics (which a coworker takes and has invited me to several times). Keto Week 19 TIU Summer Series Week 5 Last week hurt. Even after a week of Epsom salt baths, a massage, and a rest day everything was still sore. I'm finally feeling 95% today. #TIUSummerSeries Week 4 was no joke with back-to-back HIIT and kickboxing. On the plus side I made it to 58lbs loss. Just 19lbs to my next goal! For an added challenge with self-care I tried the Try Guys CEO Challenge for a week (search YouTube). This involved following the morning/evening routines of some of the most successful CEOs in the country like Arianna Huffington and Mark Zuckerberg, and included things like waking up at 4am (I did not. 5:30-6am was good enough for me), daily chores, salt baths by candle light, and banning all cellphones and tablets from the bedroom. Overall I really enjoyed it and plan to keep the majority of it going - especially incorporating bath time during the week and 6am wake up calls. I'm pretty excited for the upcoming Memorial Day weekend, because one of my best friends is coming over to help me clean out my closet. I'm hoping to get rid of a fair amount of items that are now too big - and never to be seen or needed again. Keto Week 17 #TIUSummerSeries Week 3 I stuck to my diet. The scale continues to move, slowly but steadily, and I continued to lose inches this week in my hips and both thighs. I added 100% MCT oil to my diet this weekend - I'd previously been using mainly coconut oil which is the closest alternative at 15% MCTs. In a nutshell MCTs, or multi chain triglycerides, are fatty acids which can be easily absorbed and go from your stomach straight to your liver and stimulate ketone production - skipping the rest of your digestive system. Using 100% MCT oil supposedly helps with energy and mental clarity - I'll have to give my thoughts on that in a week or two. I am focused more now on the fitness aspect of my keto journey since I believe I have a handle on the food. They say it takes 30 days to make a habit, 90 days to build a lifestyle, and my goal is to build a healthy lifestyle. So while I did scale back from working out 7 days a week, I still find myself doing something 5-6 days a week, which is okay for now as I work up to 90 days. I've been enjoying the @TIU SummerSeries and finally upgraded to the paid app - such a good decision! I also have been watching a lot of @WhitneyySimmons, @Abby Pollock, @Ashleigh_Jordan, and @BretContreras1 workout videos. Brett, who is the reigning Jedi Master of booty building🍑If booty building were basketball, he'd be Lebron, Curry, and Jordan all rolled into one burley white man. Coincidently this is the one muscle group I've always had a harder time gaining mass in, so I'm all for the tips and tricks. The end of April brings the end of showers (hopefully) and the end of the 30 Day Workout Challenge. I am proud to say that I did not miss a day. I worked out for 30 days on a row! I definitely see some changes in my body composition - my quads, hamstrings, and shoulders are more defined. Unfortunately (or as usual) I didn't take Before pictures so I don't have much for comparison. Here's my total losses for April: Left arm: -0 inches Week 4 / -0.5 inches total Right arm: -0 inches Week 4 / -0.75 inches total Left thigh: +0.25 inches Week 4 / -1.25 inches total Right thigh: -0.5 inches Week 4 / -1 inches total Waist: -0 inch Week 4 / -3 inches total Hips: -0 inches Week 4 / -2.25 inches total Weight: -0lbs Week 4 / -10.8lbs total For the last 1.5 weeks I followed the schedule of the #TIUSummerSeries, and now that it's May I'll be transitioning into it full time. This will actually be my 7th time attempting a #TIUChallenge, but the first time I actually feel like I'll be able to finish. I feel SO much lighter and stronger. I can't wait to compare my results!
