Fanfic Tropes: Soulmates | Hurt/No Comfort | Everybody Lives AUs? 👀✨️

Soulmates: A++++!! Hello, I am so fucking weak for this trope dskfjhdsfjl. Romantic, finding each other through multiple lifetimes and universes?? Beautiful. My one and only love, till death do we part? Magnificent~ Platonic soulmates who are each other’s ride-or-die, who never fell for the other romantically but love them beyond what can be put into words? Crying tbh.

And unwilling soulmates?? Especially where one half is completely for it but the other is so repulsed by the very idea that seeing their soulmate gives them anxiety, fury and physical illness? (Julian/Sloan, anyone?) GIVE IT TO ME.

Hurt/No Comfort: C. It’s something I have to be in particular mood for and there are pairings/characters where I will nope out if I see it in the tags. But a well written hurt/no comfort fic that rips my heart out and smacks it against the wall?? My God.

Everyone Lives AU: A+++++! Screaming, crying, throwing up tbh. Given that so much of my favourite media ends with at least one character dying/being ���lost’ forever/etc, this trope is a godsend. Particularly for stuff like YGO and DS9 where some of the deaths were completely unwarranted hdkshfkl.

I love how Bashir just refuses to acknowledge or appease authority he doesn’t respect. He goes to see Tain, an extremely dangerous retired spymaster of whom he is explicitly asking a favour, and is as impertinent as possible throughout the meeting and doesn’t even try to hide his contempt when Tain says he wants Garak to suffer for the rest of his life. He gets chucked in solitary confinement while in a Dominion prison for protesting the guards cutting rations. And he snarks off Sloan while getting interrogated. He always puts honour and principles above self-preservation even when the consequences are or could be dire.

what people flagrantly misunderstand about culturally iconic ‘logicians’ like spock and sherlock holmes is that they are fuckinggggg annoying. like you canNOT write for nor adapt either of these characters properly without understanding that they are admirable in many ways, yes, but they are repeatedly and gleefully, ON PURPOSE, fucking massive nuisances to literally every sane individual around them, all the time. they love bothering people, they LOVE it, it makes them SO HAPPY, and THAT, not their brilliance, is what makes them the best. spocks a BITCH

Other notes: I found this while mooching around on Vinted not long after it launched in Ireland and managed to get this from a user in France for a decent price. It’s only a few pages long, but goes through the process of creating the comic; including a script for the page and the rough sketches of the scene. And of course, I managed to get comic where Julian is Being Victimised, ahaha…

The comic was released in August 1993 and ran for 32 issues until January 1996.

As for Malibu Comics; they were bought out by Marvel in November 1994, with Malibu content having petered out by 1996
