addendum to my last post: yes research is important and writers should be doing that but there's also a point where you just have to let go of the details okay?

it's the same with worldbuilding; you can do as much detail crafting as you want but most of it is going to be a distraction to the story.

but also, if some inane small detail like. idk. parchment production. "takes you out of the story" or something? that's fine. you can decide what you want to read. just don't act like it means the writer is an idiot or something

i feel like every day i see a post about someone talking about some historical inaccuracy they commonly see in historical or fantasy-esque settings, but it's always said in such an aggressive, rude way

like. it's never "I'm passionate about [historical thing] and I want to share my fun knowledge about it in case you might want to implement this knowledge yourself!"

it's always "every time i see this INACCURACY it PISSES ME OFF so i'm going to angrily tell all you STUPID idiots THE RIGHT WAY to write about this thing >:("

like. sure. okay. i think i'd rather just. keep doing what i'm doing, thanks.
