you know what i love about oswald? i love that he’s such a nervous, panicking boy when he’s in love. he’s such a shaky teenager. the way his expression just lightens up when he sees ed, like his eyes are SPARKLING guys and he’s such a sweet little peng. i mean in that one scene he literally slaps his own head with his papers once ed’s looking away because he thinks he EMBARRASSED himself. oswald = small birb crushing and blushing on and around everyone who shows him genuine affection. he is BRUTAL and he should get some help but he is also a tender little egg

Edward Nygma failed in his attempts to break Oswald Cobblepot, he really, really did.

He thought the reveal that he’d dug up Oswald’s father’s grave would be enough to make Oswald hate him - it wasn’t.

He thought torturing Oswald with acid would do that job - it didn’t.

He thought giving Oswald the choice between dying or betraying Ed would result in Oswald proving he cared more about himself than him and didn’t actually love him at all - instead Oswald thought about it and realised that he could not let Ed suffer however crazy it may seem. 

Ed put Oswald through absolute hell, did not apologise, did not express any remorse whatsoever, showed Oswald that he was working with the people who had killed Oswald’s mother to bring him down… and still Oswald refused to do anything that might result in more pain for Ed because he is genuinely in love with him.

Like whatever happens in the last eight episodes (and I’m really hoping this isn’t the last we’ve seen of Oswald for this season)… That was a scenario Edward Nygma hadn’t even considered.

#I will maintain till the day I die that edward nygma was not okay with what he was about to do #and any relief he felt at actually pulling the trigger was momentary #because he regretted it instantly and you can’t convince me otherwise

i’m posting this because it’s beautifully written and because audiences deserve the chance to interpret what happened last night on their own terms. (I’m specifically referring post-epsiode Twitter remarks…) I know I wasn’t the only viewer who saw major complexity to what happened in the episode and how the characters felt about it, so just for that simple fact, it was nice to see an outside reviewer that agreed.
