Homework🤓📚🤭
I prepped some fabric by painting and masking it. I put it on the line to dry, so that I could paint some more for our project, 'LSAD, anew'.
During the previous week, Eoin gave me a tutorial on how to mix your own colours, I found this really helpful and practiced it at home.
The green painting(last image) is one of three. More to follow, so watch this space👀

This mornings work in painting. I am unhappy with this. I really struggle to be free with my brush strokes and I don’t think I have been true to the tone of the colours. Still an interesting exercise.

If I had time, I would do this all over again because the image still doesnt look quite right. I would also do it at five times the scale it is here. I would like the scale to reflect the enormity of grief and our global responsibility to act in whatever way we can. There's not enough paper or time in the world to equal that.

Kom Terug
For the smaller side of the scale challenge, I used a different angle of the giraffe skull with a mopani worm coming out of the eye socket (as though it’s been abandoned and is now only an empty shell inhabited by insects) and drew it in acrylic marker.
I used the text meaning ‘come back’ so that the two pieces, next to each other, read out ‘Draai om? Kom terug’ - turn around? come back - as if my previous home is calling to me.

movement project- Scale Painting: small scale
Working off of this photo I took last year that fits well within my subject theme of birds.
The connecting thread between my paintings has been the birds themselves, possibly form + shape and also the wires present.

I used a small piece of hessian that had already been painted white. I kept the normal edge of the hessian as I like the rough look to it and the seam adds character. Due to impatience I did this piece really quickly, painting the background the day before, adding the tree.
I problem solved on how to carefully do the wires. I had thought to try use the hessian twine string to print the lines on but I found it easier to simply tape on the painted string. I later glued it down with PVA. I think it looks more interesting like this with a minor 3D element.
Photographed the colour looks less accurate to my photo.

Here it is in comparison to my A3 painting (which is kind of like a medium size if it were included in the scale series as a third painting)
I must get a photo of it compared to the crane painting

Painting workshop with Eoin- Thursday
Ive had the most incredible week! Its been so refreshing and exciting to work on designs that resonate with my vision for the movement project. Eoin was fantastic to work with from start to finish and really helped guide me through my painting project. We learned about canvas making, tools we could craft for painting and artist research that linked with the project also.
I decided upon the words RE VIVE for the painting project this week as I felt as though for myself personally it was a total revival of creativity for me. Using bold colours, lines and masking tape i was able to paint what inspired me and I went for it. I even reused the stencils I made into another piece of work. The ball of masking tape was an accumulation of all the pieces of tape i used for the project.
So happy to have had the opportunity to attend this weeks workshops.

Progress today in the painting workshop @eoinmclsad
My painting follows my theme of the movement through death in greek mythology with a modernisation. I have depicted a pair of hands with modern aspects such as bracelets, tattoos and painted nails. Ive kept the tattoos in line with the greek theme with the writing being the greek translation of hades, a name for the underworld. The hands are holding a pomegranate which is the symbolic fruit of the underworld derived from the persephone myth.
The background will be dark with plans to add luminous hands of the spirits reaching out.

Movement - Week 4
Painting
This week im in @eoinmclsad studio doing painting again. On Monday we did short gesture drawings with Jeff using charcoal. I really enjoyed this it was good craic, doing the gesture drawings under some time pressure is always fun as it forces you to work quick and you’re always trying to improve the next one and always helps me get a feel for drawing the human body and it’s proportions

After the charcoal drawing we did a big collaborative piece with long and short mark making tools and brushes while Jeff hit a series of crazy and wacky poses. This was really good craic and just all around fun and the finished project looked class
