dress up ford week: THE TRUE ENDING

I missed that a "Ford Dress-Up Week" art challenge happened last week, but I still want to try to do it. The original challenge was posted on Twitter, I think, and also here, by @beccadrawsstuff. (No way are all the pieces going to be this elaborate, though.)

So here is Day 1: Portal Ford!

Back in 2017-18, I had worked up this outfit for a project I called Pteroworld, and always meant to come back to it. It's good to do an update!

(As is often the case, especially with this world, the landscape owes a lot to Moebius as an inspiration. The scifi rifle is loosely based/inspired by a NERF gun.)

people fail to understand that ford's choice to summon bill and read the cave incantations has nothing to do with a lack of intelligence and everything to do with being desperate. he wanted that demon and that incantation to be real. he needed help. fiddleford or stan would have made a different decision, but it isn't because they're wiser or smarter than ford, but because they weren’t feeling what he was feeling at the time. he had worked his ass off his whole life, and he was still disliked, looked down on, and even downright hated by everyone he knew, especially the locals. all he wanted was something big enough to compensate for everything people felt was wrong about him. bill was that for him in every way. he wanted to summon bill and he intentionally took that risk. red flags be damned, he had a goal and his whole life he's been more than willing to do whatever it takes to complete it. do with that what you will.

ive been chewing on the logistics of alternate bills and i cant seem to get anywhere with it that i'm happy with and i struggle to even put language to what i'm thinking.

the nightmare realm isn't a place, it's the space between dimensions. the first part of my question is, how does that work with timelines? because you can't really iterate off negative space, negative space is defined by the existence of space. as dimensions splinter off into new timelines, wouldn't the nightmare realm just mold or expand around them?

like dough you cut out until you run out of space, and roll out thinner to get more room

is the nightmare realm capable of duplicating into a new timeline? are the beings residing in it immune from this iteration? the nightmare realm doesn't have physics, does that impact it at all?

because it's not that each timeline is its own reality, right? like ford was able to travel to alternate earths during his travels. it seems like all of reality is contained within this one bubble which is connected by the nightmare realm. like how galaxies are all "connected" by dark matter and all contained within the sphere of the visible universe.

so now my problem diverges:

if the nightmare realm can splinter, then what does that look like? are there just a bunch of bill ciphers hanging out in the nightmare realm posted up outside the earth they're currently haunting? what does that do to bill's empire? should we instead think of "bill cipher" as a siphonophore: one being made up of all the alternate bills working together (ala all the bills that live inside of him)? but then what of the henchmaniacs?

if the nightmare realm cannot splinter, then how does bill decide which timeline to follow? we know he can see a "kaleidoscopic quantum phantasmagoria of infinite possible futures across a spectrum of probability," but by his own admission he can't see the future. does he go with the timeline that looks most promising? most fun? is he jumping around as timelines splinter, so that it appears the same to whoever he's working with but to him it's different?

like thinking of 46'\ vs better world ford, they were one ford until better world figured out how to shake free of bill. if the nightmare realm splinters, is there a better world bill just putzing around trying to figure out a new plan now that ford's cut him out of that dimension? if the nightmare realm doesn't splinter, did bill make the conscious decision to follow 46'\ or was he tugged along the narrative thread without consciously knowing?

does any of this make sense? i wrote it 4 times and im still not sure im saying what im trying to say
