Last Life character designs!! Themed around high fantasy and medieval aesthetics :D design notes under the cut!

I took some inspiration (consciously and subconsciously) from things like LOTR, Robin Hood, Game of Thrones (which I haven’t seen but provided a great reference for Etho’s cape), and Merlin (Percival was kinda perfect as a a reference for Skizz’s sleeveless armor)

I have left out some color variations, such as pearl’s brown jacket, skizz’s red hair, and scott’s life variants, mostly to save space and time since they’re almost exactly the same. Terry is also not included for similar reasons (also because bigb already has 3 other distinct designs)

The fairy fort are fae, BEST are knights, Southlanders are meant to be like Robin Hood’s merry men (rogue/ranger peasants for my dnd nerd audience), Scottage are elves and Magic(al?) Mountain are ofc wizards!

False: It depends what the problem is, I think.

Joe: Uh-hmm.

Cleo: See, I feel like I've known Joe for too long. I don't find him like a problem anymore. I just find him like an obstacle. This is sorta like, we just, we just, we just deal with Joe.

False: (overlapping) Wait, is that better?

Joe: It is much better. I'm a hurdle.

False: (overlapping) I think I'd rather be a problem than an obstacle.

Cleo: No, a problem, a problem requires that I need to spend time and effort concerning myself and finding a solution.

Joe: (overlapping) No cause, cause, okay hurdles --

Cleo: I don't. I just leap over him and then we're done.

Joe: Yeah, obstacles route around the damage rather than like dealing with it.

False: (laughing) You route around them…

Cleo: I mean, routing around the damage with Joe is often challenging. It's a struggle.

Joe: But you know, the struggle is what makes the art good.

Cleo: Yeah. I think I'm just used to you now, Joe. So it's like --

Joe: Thanks, Cleo. (overlapping Cleo) I am an acquired taste.

Cleo: (overlapping) It's the Joe Hills Difference. You are. You know that. I know that. We're not pretending that you're not an acquired taste. (overlapping False) In this house we obey the rules.

False: (overlapping) Wait, isn't everybody an acquired taste, in general?

Joe: No, I think some people are definitely more approachable. Like some people are just intrinsically, like, they're just friendly and easy to get along with. I don't know, I feel like, I'm not quite Daria levels of strange and off-putting, but like, I feel like, I'm more towards that than somebody like Jimmy or Martyn who are just like, blokes, you know what I mean?

Cleo: Yeah. You are strange and off-putting, but that's part of your charm. (False laughs)

See, here’s the thing. During the great Joe hills chase sequence (over like 2 weeks), the Poe members were all thinking “wow, this Joe hills guy is always thinking five steps ahead. He’s deadly, cunning, and a mastermind.” Then you watch Joe Hills and he’s like cartoonishly stumbling his way to victory without even knowing it. We know this. We love him for it.

But we are forgetting that Joe was thinking the same thing about the Poe. Trying to psychoanalyze their movements when they were just blundering about. Guessing where they may lay traps (and being wrong almost every time). He thought an egg lying on the ground in skizz’s storage room was a five minute egg timer to see if he’d been there. Skizz just had a rogue chicken.
