Rozalla - Everybody's Free (Skooch Rmx)
0 notes
Audio
I lifted the vocals from Rozalla's "Everybody's Free" and wrote everything else myself. I don't know how to describe this... Funk, jazz, house, a little bit of everything?
Words and music by Nigel Swanston and Tim Cox; additional writing, arranged, and produced by Eric A Scuccimarra. And special thanks to Clyde Stubblefield from whom most of the drums have been inspired (or lifted).

Everybody's Free
Everybody’s Free
https://soundcloud.com/skooch/rozalla-everybodys-free-skooch-rmx
I took an acapella from Rozalla’s “Everybody’s Free” and then wrote the music around that. My initial intention was to try to do a jazz version, but the song just wasn’t having it – I don’t know how to describe the results – it’s a mix of a bunch of different influences.
I used four instruments in addition to the vocals – a grand…

Tainted Love
https://soundcloud.com/skooch/tainted-love
This one is a jazz version of “Tainted Love”, written by Ed Cobb. I used the same sampler instruments as in “Around the World.” This one took me a really long time to do, and I’m not so much done with it as I just can’t spend any more time working on it.
The bass is sampled from an 1958 Otto Rubner double bass played and mapped by Drogomir Smolken,…

Mass Shootings in the US
The response to the recent mass shooting reaffirms my decision to have left the US and moved to Switzerland. In most other first world countries, the responses to mass shootings have been to ban or restrict guns. This seems to have worked very well in places like the UK and Australia.
In the US the response to a school shooting is to have the teachers carry guns. While this probably would reduce the number of deaths in a school shooting, the thinking behind it is just so backwards it boggles my mind. Doing that is basically admitting that school shootings will always continue, and the best we can do is to kill the shooters as quickly as possible.
Here in Switzerland guns are not tightly controlled, with about 25 guns per 100 people. While this does not compare to the US, where there are more guns than people, it is striking that here there are about 9 firearm related murders per million people per year in Switzerland, versus about 33 in the US. In the UK, where guns are completely banned there are about 0.25 firearm related murders per million people per year.
It seems pretty clear that gun control, if properly implemented, will significantly reduce the number of firearm related deaths, as it has in most countries which have banned guns. Since that seems unlikely to ever happen in the US, maybe they should look at Switzerland since we seem to be doing something right here with about 45 murders per year and very low crime rates.
I don’t have a perfect solution to this problem, but what they are doing in the US obviously isn’t working.
