been re-listening to the lightning thief musical on loop at work for the past few days, and maaaan was it such a smart narrative decision to double cast sally jackson and the oracle in the cast recording, (spoiler ramblings for TLT and canon from the main HoO book series under the cut)

like one of the many things the musical does so well is how it really deigns to highlight the parallels between percy and luke, both really fuckin' sick of their godly parents and their lack of regard for the families they left behind. and there's a very real interpretation to be made that percy could have easily had let his frustrations fester into hatred and gone down a similar path to luke... except percy stilll has his mom. his mom, who never held any ill will against poseidon for never being there, who pleads with percy to believe the same (until she gets Fuckin Minotaur'd lmao, but percy deserves to have complicated feelings about his dad, as a treat)

we know in HoO that luke's mother, on the other hand, tried to take the spot of the oracle of delphi at hermes's behest, only to effectively lose herself in the failed process. there are other factors that culminate in his allegiance with kronos (thalia's death, his quest where he got his scar), but the loss of his mother is a stark echo of what could've happened to sally jackson, and how that could've easily tipped percy over the same edges

so the oracle in the cast recording being played by the same actress as sally makes such perfect thematic sense, and it's a cool narrative connection that you can only really get out of theatre, just!!! ahhh it's so cool!!

for the MDAs, I think I'm just going with a simple black dress that's lowkey a hand-me-down from my sister 🙈 I was gonna go for like a blazer + cool slacks and button up combo, but I ended up not buying the right sizes, so dress it is!

What are your absolute fav SU songs and eps? (Have fun at Reconnect!!)

oh MAN that's such a difficult choice to make lmao!! only the first three seasons are currently fresh in my mind atm so I'm sure I'll have some different picks in the future, but aside from the regular standouts like Jailbreak and Mr. Greg and Lion 3 and The Answer, I'll say Alone Together, Beach City Drift, A Single Pale Rose, Sworn to the Sword and Crack the Whip (+the episodes following that make up the Steven vs. Amethyst arc, aughhh Earthlings was such a perfect capstone)

For songs, definitely Love Like You for its sheer thematic relevance alone, not to mention how so PRETTY it is!! Close behind'll be the regular standouts like It's Over Isn't It, Stronger Than You, and Here Comes a Thought; but I also really love Comet, Escapism, Strong in the Real Way, Do It for Her, Being Human, No Matter What... I feel like I'm just gonna list the entire OST at this rate lmaoo. OH, We Are the Crystal Gems's full extended version too, that one rules!!
