BOOK REVIEW
The Girl in his Shadow is an enchanting tale about a woman wishing to be equal to the male gender in an old fashioned era where she would not be allowed to become a surgeon/doctor in the country she lives in just because of the fact that she is female. She overcomes many obstacles and fights against tradition and historical values. I enjoyed how the author kept to the time and still made it modern and used a lot of medical phrases and actually did the research on the processes and the equipment that would be used back then. There were some points when I read something about the smells and believed I could actually smell the scents and see certain bits taking place. I'd give this book 4 and a half out of five stars.

Recipe from the 1910 (Desert)
Moist Chocolate Cake
Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
2 teaspoons baking soda
3/4 cup baking cocoa
2 cups sugar
1 cup canola oil
1 cup brewed coffee
1 cup whole milk
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
for the icing:
1 cup whole milk
5 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1/2 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Directions
Preheat oven to 325°. Grease and flour two 9-in. round baking pans. Sift dry ingredients together into a large bowl. Add oil, coffee and milk; mix at medium speed 1 minute. Add eggs and vanilla; beat 2 minutes longer. (Batter will be thin.) Pour into prepared pans.
Bake until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean, 25-30 minutes. Cool in pans 10 minutes before removing to wire racks to cool completely.
Meanwhile, for icing, in a small saucepan, whisk flour and milk until smooth. Bring to a boil over medium heat; cook and stir until thickened, 1-2 minutes. Transfer to a small bowl. Cover and refrigerate until chilled.
In a large bowl, beat butter, shortening, sugar and vanilla until creamy, 3-4 minutes. Add chilled milk mixture and beat 10 minutes. Spread frosting between layers and over top and sides of cake. If desired, dust with additional cocoa.

The Secret Garden Book Review
The secret garden is a timeless classic that I had seen the movies of but hadn't read the book of it in years. Getting to delve deeper into the story I learned more behind the tale. The close connection between the cousins. The possible romance blossoming between Mary and Dickon and my favourite character Archibald Craven seeing the ghost of his wife. I believe this was an often occurrence for him whenever he needed her but that she had never brought up their son to him before or had done and he'd felt too guilty to go back and see their child. In the sequel to it I would've loved to see the son and the father's relationship dynamic developing. I also believe that the garden and Mary's character are one and the same, as it begins at a wildness from being left alone for too long and she is much the same. Over time they both get better and much more beautiful. Perhaps even the same could be said about the connection between the garden and Colin.
Out of five stars I would give this 4 1/5

My latest review
Recently I read Around the World in Eighty Days.
I can quite honestly say this is not a book I enjoyed. I grew up on the movie adaptation with Jackie Chan and the book was very different to the movie. As quite a lot of things are.
Still there are elements to the book I wish they had kept in the movie.
Such as the character of Aouda. Even though I did like Monique Laroche I wish they had stuck to the Princess Character because it shone a light on other cultures and I loved how strong the Princess was.
I found myself quite bored in parts of the book.
I would not find myself reading this again I don’t think.
Out of five stars I would give this 2 1/5

Phantom of the Opera book review.
I found the book quite a bit different from the musical.
At first it sounded like I was just reading the plot of the live theatre show and then more parts were added in, things were changed. Characters were added. Even though I do prefer the musical show I wish certain aspects were still in the performance.
Not much has changed for me in the way I think about the characters themselves. My favourite character is still the Viscount Raoul de Chagny as I just adore his character and find him to be quiet perfect on many accounts.
There is a bit at the end in one of the final chapters that I wish they kept in the musical however as it could’ve made the show a lot more darker but I suspect that was to appeal to a younger audience as well.
In general I would give this book 8/10
