Mental Health
Most of the characters are facing a rocky mental state. According to the article it states that the show “draw the line between sensationalizing and empathizing with the behavior of these teens. This balance is what gives the show it's overwhelmingly dark and apocalyptic feel; each character is equal parts thrilled and repulsed by their own desires and actions.” (ScreenRant). Showing that the conflict with the characters is based on the psychological state each character is facing through. And to some people it may give off the feeling that they are trying to romanticize mental health, which is not the case.

Violence
Euphoria has an unsetting element in the show that is unspoken and that is violence. The show itself does not show too much violence in it, but it does create an atmosphere where violence could be anywhere. For example the bruises on Jules’ (Hunter) thighs, Nate’s (Jacob) dark personality, also in sex and relationships in the show can show a type of violence that can mess with a person mind. Even though the violence is not deeply explored in the show, we can later see that violence is a major part in the world.

Unconventional Desire
As the many shocking factors that have been discussed in the series by now it should not be a show to watch with your parents. The show includes BDSM relationship but it is not trying to shock you with it, but show you who it involves. The new girl in town is named Jules (Hunter Schafer) and we are introduced to her by going on a date with a much older man. By the end we can clearly see that this will be the main plot to the show. Which is also another expanse of the bare-boned rawness Rue (Zendaya) warns us at the beginning of the episode.

Toxic Masculinity
We meet different types of characters in this show who are fighting with problems due to body image, drug use, mental health, etc. Usually in teen dramas we have different social groups that can distinguish all these characters into a category; well in this case not the jocks. The “jock” figure in this show is the football star Nate (Jacob Elordi), and in the beginning of his introduction we know he is a scary guy. In the article it states that Nate is “nearly running girls down in his car, threats of violence, bullying, describing his classmates as animals, and "teaching" his friends how to treat girls.”(ScreenRant). He is one of the worst toxic masculinity that is portrayed in the series and he is not seen as a sympathetic, loveable jock; he could possibly be dangerous in the future of the show.

Porn vs. Real Sex
As in most HBO shows are known for their graphic content in shows. It is not foreign for to expect that Euphoria will hav some mature content. The series not only shows the characters openly talk about porn, but some porn clips are cut into the series edits. It sparks a discussion point in the series, showing that most of the kids learn about sex by watching porn ad can’t tell the difference between what is on the internet and the real world. As the sex scenes in this show are meant to shock it is also trying to say something to the audience of this generation.

A New Type of Love
This show already has a lot of nudity and it has been the biggest controversy in the series. In particular showing the teens sending nudes, porn, or even sex scenes. In one scene Rue (Zendaya) states "I know your generation relied on flowers and father's permission. But it's 2019, nudes are the currency of love. So stop shaming us." (HBO) Making the controversy of this topic by pointing out that they are no longer controversial.

Born on 9/11
At the beginning of the series we get a recap of Rue’s (Zendaya) life and what has happened throughout the years. While she was introducing herself it leading to the character being born during the world famous terrorist attack. And according to the article it foreshadows that Rue was already born into trauma and also booker her parents a long Tim to get over it to decided to give her proper attention. Which lead to her having many mental health issues, leading to her drug addiction.

Climate Change
While the teens in Euphoria are partying and smoking their lives away; climate change does play a small key point in the story. This is due to the timeline they are all living in according to the article by ScreenRant. At some point in the series Rue (Zendaya) says that The world's ending, and I'm still supposed to go to high school."(HBO) It is already hard enough for the drama and addiction that they are all going through making it no point in going to school anymore. Addressing a major problem that is going on today.

Everyone’s Addicted
It seems in the series everyone has an addiction to something. It varies from drugs, sex, alcoholic parents, toxic relationship, etc. Rue maybe the main character in the series but we do see the other character’s back story on how they all became an addict. Making it a world of addition that director Levinson made. But the series normalizes the fact that everyone is an addict of some type and characters who are not seem to be the odd ones from the series.

Drug vs. Medication
In the series Euphoria we see how teen drug use can affect not only a person body but everyone around them. In the beginning of the series we see Rue (Zendaya) is a drug addict and was sent to a rehab clinic due to an overdose. We can also see that she has already struggled with mental health issues like OCD and taking medication. So the question of drug vs. medication comes to play in the show. As many argue that Euphoria is romanticizing the use of teens and drug addiction.

Controversial Things In Euphoria?
Hello I am a film student who is making this account for a project, to discuss the so called “controversy” Euphoria has received since the HBO show has premiered this summer. I can say it is obviously NOT a kids show at all. As it follows the story of Rue (Zendaya) and her drug addiction, also followed with other sub plots of what the other teens are going through. So I will be posting what this website has been saying about the show. But over all this is an amazing show due to the storyline, fashion, acting, music, and cinematography.
