RIP - 🇳🇱 Anneke Grönloh, the Dutch representative of Eurovision Song Contest 1964, passed away at the age of 76. Anneke Grönloh died yesterday aged 76 yo, a year after she had withdrawn from action in the music scene. She was born in the Dutch East Indies and was one of the top selling singers in the country, reaching her peak of carrer in the 60’s. H journey started in 1959 whne she achieved to win the T.V talent show Cabaret der onbekenden, which secured her her first recoreding contract. Three years later she will realease her first album which met massive success and from then on successive hits during the 60’s boosted her career to the top. When she was about to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest she was discouraged by her manager not to do so, as he feared that a bad result will have a negative impact on her career. Ingnoring his advice he accepted with honor to represent The Netherlands in thw Eurovision Song Contest that was held in Copenhagen. The Dutch singer competed in Copnehagen with her song Jij bent mijn leven , which finished in 10th place with 2 points. In 1969 she attempted one more time to represent her country but withput success. In 2000 she was declared “Singer of the century” due to the huge number of sales her first album (1962) achieved. EV News: 🇮🇱 We’re off to Tel Aviv for the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest! The EBU and the Israeli national broadcaster KAN/ IPBC have announced today that the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest will be held in Tel Aviv. Eurovision fans can now plan their trips to Israel and book their flights and accomodation! The 2019 Eurovision Song Contest will be held at the Tel Aviv Convention Centre, namely at the newly built Pavillion 2 on 14, 16 and 18 May. Mr. Jon Ola Sand (Eurovision Song Contest Executive Producer) says: We’d like to thank all the Israeli cities who bid to host the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest, and KAN who conducted an expert and thorough assessment to help us make the final decision. All the bids were exemplary but in the end we decided that Tel Aviv provides the best overall setup for the world’s largest live music event. We are excited to bring the Contest to a brand new city and are looking forward to working together with KAN to make 2019’s Eurovision Song Contest the most spectacular one yet. The Tel Aviv Convention Centre, formerly known as the Tel Aviv Fairgrounds dates back to the 1920’s and saw its inauguration in 1933. The fairground is located at the Rokach Boulevard in the north of the city and can be easily reached from downtown Tel Aviv via train, bus, car and cab. EV NEWS - Tel Aviv vs Jerusalem 🇮🇱 KAN, the Israeli national broadcaster, has announced today that Eilat is out of the 2019 Eurovision host city bidding race, leaving Jerusalem and Tel Aviv as the potential host cities. The final decision and host city announcement is expected to to take place next week according to the broadcaster. It’s getting exciting in Israel as the announcement of the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest dates and host city approaches. This week EBU officials travelled to Israel and visited the potential venues in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv. They also checked out Eilat’s ambitious plan to build a venue in its port. KAN has revealed today via its official Twitter account that Eilat has dropped out of the host city bidding race and that the upcoming 2019 Eurovision Song Contest will be held either in Jerusalem or Tel Aviv, with the imminent decision set to take place next week. EV News - 🇬🇷 🇲🇰 FYR Macedonia and Greece call it truce on the 27 year old ongoing name dispute. Both sides have come to an agreement and we can say goodbye FYR and hello to the Republic of North Macedonia. After a long and thorough diplomatic process, both sides have come to an agreement to the name Republic of North Macedonia or Severna Makedonija, in Macedonian. However, despite the what it seems an obvious sign of relief for both sides, the name resolution still has to be approved by the Macedonian people and the Greek parliament. That challenge will still be a mountain to climb, as Greek Prime Minister Tsipras has not yet secured any support in parliament. Solution? Under the newly achieved agreement, the country that has been known as the Former Yugoslavian Republic of Macedonia will be named North Macedonia. The citizens of the country will get to keep the term Macedonian as well as the official spoken language. Both countries agreed that the new name would be used both internationally and bilaterally. So even the countries that have recognized the small Balkan country as Macedonia will have to adapt the new name. Additionally, countries will be able to use both the English or the Slavic version of the name.
