i'm thinking ab trans bede again. bede to me is the type of character where no matter what gender you hc him as he'd look p much the same / minimal differences but i think exploring the different ways he'd approach whatever gender you hc him as would be interesting

going off of the fanbase perception (+ spe) he seems to be perceived as more "feminine" so i'm applying that to the in-universe perception as well. i've discussed trans boy bede before & it'd be pretty straightforward to him. discomfort w/ as girl -> oh i'm a boy actually.

for trans girl bede i think it'd be similar but for her it's more like feeling strange about "correcting" people when she's called a girl / enjoying being seen as feminine -> doesn't bother to correct people -> actively enforces being called a girl and referred to properly

that being said for both i think they'd still present relatively gnc/androgynous & struggle with wanting to present a certain way outside of a gender norm but then having to deal w people's perceptions on them being wrong based off that. is that worded clearly i hope ykwim

also definitely for both there'd be the frustration of being looked down on / being considered weak for being perceived as girl / feminine & i could see that contributing to them overcompensating on trying to appear strong but for diff reasons yk. tboy bede trying to disconnect from his femininity in frustration (tho i think he'd later come to terms w it & that being fem doesn't take away from him being a boy it goes in hand w/ his character development) whereas for tgirl bede it'd be more her proving that yes, i'm a girl and yes i'm still worthy of your (primarily chairman rose's but also generally everyone)'s respect. does misogyny exist in pokemon universe actually. whatever for the sake of this discussion i'm asserting that it is

any sort of nonbinary identity for bede is where things get a little more complicated to me bcs bede already is not great at like. self reflection & identity LMFAO. i don't think he'd have knowledge of any labels outside of "boy" & "girl" & the traditional ideas that come w it

i don't think he'd even id as a trans boy/girl specifically. he'd just be like yeah i'm a boy/girl. you get what i mean? its like when i say i hc him as trans or as demi aro i don't mean that he goes by those labels specifically i more so use those labels as a way of communicating. he's sorta like that one tweet to me. i'm probably nonbinary but i'm a gymleader so i don't care about that rn

i think as a tboy / tgirl it'd be easier to figure out what fits best but as soon as the gender starts leaning into nb territory he just kind of. vague dismissive gesture. no labels just whatever feels right. can't be bothered to figure all that out

thats all i have to say i think i hope this hasn't been entirely nonsensical.. i think gender is really interesting to explore w characters because its a spectrum & can be so unique to the individual + the external factors that shape how you may percieve gender as a whole
