brynne blinked twice when she actually registered what he was requesting from her. what did donnie mean he needed her dna ? for lasers ? she shook her head, exasperated as she asked, “haven’t you boys ever heard of a ring camera ? they’re, like, forty dollars or something. you can view it from your phone and you don’t even have to be weird with a cotton swab. ”

“ oooh, did i strike a nerve ? ” admittedly, kiara already did seem a little more intimating than she did a second ago, but brynne could guess that was the point. she giggled anyway, the idea of butterflies drinking blood but humorous and terrifying. but got lost at the mention of chaos theory.

“ what’s that ? ” she inquired, an immediate tone shift as she leaned in with interest. “ i don’t think i’ve heard of chaos theory. ”

it wasn’t very often that the topic of mavis being a whole vampire came up in conversation, but when it did - brynne couldn’t help but consider how difficult it was for trixie to hide her powers. it’s not like her sister even wanted to - it was due to her own wishes that they stayed so hidden. she couldn’t help but wonder, if only for a moment, what it might be like to be open about her powers like mavis. 

brynne giggled at the girl’s reply, masking uncertainty with curiosity as she dared, “ show me, then. prove me wrong. ”

when brynne had agreed to play lookout for mikey, she had failed to consider what that could look like to the average person: one that climbed instead of flew and didn’t have superhuman speed. there weren’t many ways to get to the roof of this building that didn’t require any physical or emotional labor, though she did consider begging a receptionist for a key to the penthouse elevator ... with mikey already up there and no one else to witness, she was going to have to fly.

well - float was probably a better word for it, since brynne carefully hovered over every step just in case - but she hadn’t considered speed. or how loud her landing would sound in contrast. luckily, he was sitting with his back towards her when she landed and started walking his way, a grin plastered across her face as she hoped he didn’t notice the dead silence up until that point. 

“well, i guess it’s a good thing i’m the lookout,” she said with a giggle as she set down her backpack and looked out to the skyline. she hadn’t been up this high in so long - it almost felt refreshing. “ alright mister. ” she clapped once and turned back to him, eyes locked on his as she grinned. “ what’s the plan? tell me what i have to do. ”

He was responsible enough to look around the area before using his nunchucks to pull himself to the roof using the fire escape stairs. He was careful when he landed because he didn’t want to further hurt his ankle and get yelled at by Leo. The water tower was on this building though and he was waiting for Brynne so he took a seat on the edge and looked out to the city. He pulled out his phone to take a picture of the view when he heard footsteps and it made him almost drop his phone. He turned to see who it was and immediately smiled, “You snuck up on me!”

beatrix stood there in the costume area of the thrift store, standing in the secondhand, ill-fitting fake dark armour she’d found in the corner. she huffed as she crossed her arms. “ … okay, first of all, you suck and i hate you. second of all — i said imagine this but like cooler and actually fitting me. who’s that sewing friend of yours? the hot one? she can fix it! ”

brynne had originally wanted to go thrifting for the 4town concert - the fact that she had managed to get floor seats for herself and her sisters on their birthday was literally insane, and they must dress the part ! but, as per usual, it wasn’t easy to stay on task ... especially when shopping was involved. a pile of outfits in various shades of blue lay abandoned in the corner as brynne and trixie inspected the costume section instead.

“ take that back - i am a delight, ” brynne huffed, arms crossed as she glared as her sister while mirroring her in the process. unfortunately, the material of the fake armor didn’t seem like something that could easily be altered ... but trix seemed so set on it that she didn’t know how to tell her that. “ i don’t know if serena specializes in armor, ” brynne said delicately before looking to a cropped shrug that she saw earlier. it was basically just sleeves, but it was silver and crocheted in a way that made it look like chainmail. “ what about this ? this kind of looks like something ! ”

“ you’re right about that - i identify as the prettiest girl in this bar, ” brynne huffed. looking around, there wasn’t much competition in this bar. in fact, there were plenty of men who really did look homeless, and not a lot of ladies in their company. “ and i was testing you ! you passed, congratulations ! ” she passed a twenty dollar bill across the bar with an apologetic smile on her face. “ hey, why don’t you get me another cherry mule - and maybe some water ? - and we can pretend this little outburst never happened. what d’ya think ? ”

“ excuse me - who are you talking to like that ? ” brynne looked down at her outfit - layered, sure, but with purpose. maybe it was a different look than people were used to seeing from her, but a white homeless man ? she was so offended. “ i am nothing but kind to you. i make sure to tip extra - i even brought everyone cookies last week ! and you treat me like this ?! take it back ! ”

brown eyes narrowed as brynne watched donnie carefully inspect the ice sculpture. admittedly, she never put too much thought into these things - weren’t there far uglier ways to waste water? this one seemed just fine. “ donnie - have you ever considered that maybe you just hate joy? it’s nice to look at ! shouldn’t that be enough ? ”

Donnie had the thought that he might be too tipsy when he realized he’d been staring at the ice sculpture for far longer than made sense. The thing was beautifully carved but he just couldn’t wrap his mind around it. “But what’s the point? It’s gonna melt anyway and then it’ll just be wasted water.”

oh, brynne just loved a party. it didn’t matter the occasion or who was there, she’d prioritize getting dressed up and dancing the night away over a paper any day - and that was exactly what she was doing tonight. who cared if her physiology midterm was due in two days? it was time to put on a pretty blue dress.

she was a bit flustered as she arrived to the manor, a few minutes later than intended. she had half a mind to fly there, considering it would take way less time than public transportation, but her dress was much too bright and she didn’t want to risk being seen. turning the corner in a huff as she raced from the bus stop, it was when she saw mikey in the distance that she was able to slow down, making sure to take a deep breath before sneaking up behind him with a smile.

“ mikey ! you look so good,” she gushed as she reached for the hem of his sleeve, pressing the fabric between her fingers as she examined the suit. “this color ? amazing.”

There was a lot of things he was finally experiencing. Going to school, making friends, and getting to enjoy his hobbies without having to look over his shoulder. He had his normalcy and his brothers and everything was almost perfect. It was enough that he allowed himself to enjoy something like a ball and even asking Brynne to go with him. He was out of his comfort zone but at least he wasn’t alone. He was patiently waiting for Brynne in front of the manor. More than a little nervous as he fidgeted with his suit jacket. “Why did this thing have to be so uncomfortable?”

" okay, listen - i’m very excited about the ball this weekend and we can talk about that in a second - however ...” brynne sighed as she collapsed into the booth and set down her iced coffee on the table, looking over at her impromptu coffee date. it didn’t matter if she knew you for five minutes or five decades, she would ramble away to anyone who would listen as if it were the latter.  “ 4*town also announced they’re playing a show - get this - on my birthday, so now i have to buy a dress and fight to the death for three concert tickets aaaaall within the same paycheck, so. if you have any suggestions on how to make a quick buck before those tickets go on sale next week, my ears are officially open and my mouth is closed.” she took a long sip of her coffee to emphasize her point before offering the other a grin.

this whole arrangement just felt ... right; brynne was already sure. the way everything was set up, they had their own sides with shared space in the middle, but after adapting to the dorms she could easily stick to her space alone if things seemed to crowded. but luckily she loved reagan and she loved ben too ( she even got him a blue teddy bear for his birthday ! )  she could already see the movie nights and the silly crafts she’d conjure up just to use the baby as an excuse to do them. sure, he couldn’t talk much but they could color easter eggs ... or finger paint ! ❛ it’s going to be so fun ! we can do little dinner dates ... oooh, or even game nights sometimes ! is there anything i should know about your schedule ? ❜

Mikey still felt a little unsteady when it came to making friends. He was good at meeting people and making that first connection but then getting to know them and tiptoeing around who he was got a little tricky. He like Brynne though. It was easier to just talk to her. 

“I talk about pizza that much?” He probably did but he was trying to ignore how nice it felt that she’d paid attention to something he liked. He had to laugh at the gran reveal. She was really proud of herself and it was cute. “You’re literally the best.”

moving to elias had been a bit of a culture shock for brynne. going from a town where she was a local celebrity to a city where no one knew who she was left with her moments that felt a bit invisible. but it made new relationships in elias all the sweeter when she realized that, for once, people weren’t smiling when she walked in a room because they were in the presence of a powerpuff girl. they were smiling because it was brynne.

maybe bev had a point about the whole keeping it a secret thing.

❛ yes, exactly, ❜ brynne gushed, thankful that the blonde in front of her saw the vision, not at all connecting the dots that maybe her shoes, her bag, or her brand new water bottle gave it away - all in sky blue. she might not have been a powerpuff girl anymore, but her signature color was here to stay, permanently ingrained in her brain. ❛ my sister think's i look good in purple too, but we all have favorites - you know ? so if we're customizing...❜ she released a breath, taking a moment to set her things down. ❛ i'd like mine to be fitted, slightly cropped, and the 'b' in my name should be bedazzled. if that's not too much trouble. oh my god, that's too much - isn't it ? ❜

she stood up on her tip toes in attempt to see the stack of papers in the other girl's hands. ❛ yeah ! that's me. what's your name ? ❜

❛ blue, huh? ❜ marie tilted her head, gaze dimming in appraisal as she took in the brunette before her. ❛ you do seem more of a robin's blue . . . no, wait, sky blue kind of girl. I'll add it to the list of potential colors. ❜ she nodded reassuringly. ❛ yes, I will. this is just a prototype of the bowling shirt so we can get a sense of the silhouette and style.
