Our Contralateral Dicotyledon
Oil on Panel (and then a bunch more wood)
Contralateral- referring to the brain/body relationship derived of the dual nature of the brain; its left hemisphere controls the right half of the body, and vice versa.
Dicotyledon- a defining trait of most higher plants; their seeds have two cotyledons, or halves.
Our minds are our seeds, from whence our body and being come.
We are not so different from the trees that fill our lungs with oxygen, nor are we separate from the patterns of creation. Like the grain of wood, formulaic yet unique, our lives spill forth. Like the endless emergence of existence- the new atop the old, the separate atop the same- we grow, and yet are ever the same.
We cannot forget that we are one. We cannot forget that we are distinct. Duality is complex; there is no good vs bad, nor human vs nature. There is only endless interaction.
We must remember the patterns, and remember the complexity.

Tentatively posting my thesis project (graduated with my Bachelor in Fine Arts this may :D):
m=E/c2
(mass= energy/speed of light2)
Left: Restless Mass
Right: Potential Energy
Center: Speed of Light
Life is creation and destruction, inescapably linked in their dance.
Their polarities reflect the fractal of dualism, the self-creation born of contrasts’ very existence.
Humans- and all things- are expressed in mass— creations borne of energy, endless emergence butterfly-effecting into matter. Matter oft forgets the energy it’s made of, the energy it never escapes— its dualism.
We may interact in matter-oriented means, forever obsessed with the tangible, an endless echo-chamber of our egos and ideals. We may embody Restless Mass.
Or, we may step beyond- or within- ourselves, seeking to balance our physicality with the energy that guides and becomes us. We may harness our Potential Energy.
Ultimately, life will always be both. Dualisms are never pure; life and death will always ebb and flow into one another.
The Speed of Light binds us, for in the end, we are one.
Tentatively posting this because I am going to work more on these pieces- most of the semester was spent building their surfaces, and as such, the paintings are under detailed. Stay tuned for her final form :)

my painting “Sin, or Personhood?”, loosely a retort to the controlling nature of christianity and the way it suppresses natural parts of humanity. Made in the format of a triptych altarpiece, in reference to catholic altarpieces but also to be one for my own altar.

My last painting from last semester! Titled “Yearning”, not really that conceptual but i had a ton of fun carving the frame and playing with colors.
