The self-indulgent brain: sym is a love interest character in a dating sim, you can interpret them however u want and shape the romance to best serve your interests, it is indulgence by nature of its genre, you can make the pairing your weird little t4t lesbians. You can think of him as ambiguous n project what you find most compelling. Keep putting him in that miniskirt.

The lore fiend in me: Sym is always referred to as "he". Noctilucent specifically calls Sym "little brother", a very deliberate gendered term. Sym has gone out of his way to similarly note Noctilucents own preference for "they/them", signifying an understanding of gender as part of identity and an active interest in participating in it. It would be unfair to erase that. Effeminate men exist. This is his preferred canonical self.

Some third part of my brain extrapolating even deeper levels of lore: He is also a glorified mushroom smart fridge. He's literally been a tree. Identity is something highly malleable for a Gardener and no one identity feels like it would be repugnant to them, at least temporarily. They themselves at their core are not individuals. Sym can encompass every possibility. Keep putting him in that miniskirt.

Trick or treat!!

I was suddenly blasted w this vision of when I was in kindergarten and I wanted(?) to be a rabbit for halloween and instead of buying me a costume or a mask or something, my mom decided to very ambitiously sew one herself. It did not look like a rabbit. Child me was fighting for their life feeling like a total fool(and looking a lot more like one too).

Inflicting this on Dys was a lot of fun :3

Woe, evil sols be upon ye. Bcus I think itd be very fitting for them to convince nem to get each others names tatted in a really stupid questionable place. Also enjoy my bffs headcanon that they did it themselves at like 2 am <3 so its also in eachothers handwriting. And bad. Maybe Nems gets infected n scars over even. So Sol is just left w an inexplicable very visible tattoo of a friends name. Anemone is very sad about it.

i think about your dyssym/solsym comparison doodle like. every other day. it fills my brain and when I make my friends listen to me talk about exo and I get to sym I've started bringing up that drawing to explain the difference and why sometimes I really don't want to see dys ever again. boohoo. boohoohoo. Like,, the line Sym says abt him when you confront Dys at his camp is very sweet and poetic,, but its also v funny in comparison w sols romance route w sym where hes like constantly full of breathless amazement at everything. N not "hes so fucking sad all the time I have to pitydate him."

All my Dys bullying is also partly inspired by the first time I romanced Sym and found out that Dys just sort of.... shows up in your house and announces hes part of the relationship without ever talking to you about it or even hinting at it jdjdhdhdfk. I felt so insulted. Hey, game, maybe I shouldve like, gotten a say in this??? (The fact were specifically excluded too even w high friendship... The actual throuple route has such specific steps Ive never bothered\succeeded).

A Shepard In My Garden

Hi, hello. So, this is what I've been working on for the better part of the month. A companion illustration for my fic, for which I have the first chapter up! And am working on the second one...

I wanted to create something with just a twinge of a sinister vibe, something loud and bright to mimic the way Vertumna is alive and constantly shifting and coiling and communicating with every tiny part of itself in a truly nauseating but at the same time addictive, even mesmerizing display. The same way the wormhole pulls Sol into the center of it all.

Here, Sol is our symbol for all things earth, all things humanity, Vertumna perched in their hand like a sweet fruit ripe for picking, juices spilling like the blood of all its creatures. And all the while Sol's own influence spreads across the fuchsia network. Their hand alone can sway the destinies of all its inhabitants and even the planet itself.

Finished 2.3 runs of "I was a teenage exocolonist". Have a few ethical/general gripes but overall very solid.
