This situation caused large numbers of Thai’s to sell their gold, to raise cash for daily living expenses, including looking after their children and paying bills.

THAI FAMILIES ARE DROWNING IN DEBT❤️ 

Thailand has one of the highest household debt levels in Asia. Covid 19 is affecting people's incomes and their ability to spend, so they are borrowing more money just to survive, which is making the situation worse. Household debt was 13.8 trillion baht or 87% of GDP in Sept 2020, up from 78% a year earlier. High household debt levels inhibit private consumption and the long-term growth potential of the economy. Covid 19 and a worsening labour market, will result in an even faster increase in the household debt to GDP this year, which will severely affect Thailand's economic recovery.
