you're Qin Su - you're the daughter of a minor sect leader, and during the war you're rescued by a kind, handsome, clever young man. after the war he's recognised by his father, the leader of one of the most powerful sects in the jianghu, and you decide to try and persue him as a match. he's ameanable - and though it is definitely you doing most of the chasing, you don't mind, as he's very polite and respectful and seems to like you very much! this seems like a perfect match! you two decide to consumate your relatonship to force your parents' hands.

it works! after only have sex once you're pregnant! you get married and everything is wonderful! except... now he won't kiss or touch you, let alone have sex, and seems uncomfortable even sharing a bed. but... he's still kind and sweet and respectful to you, so you try not be too hurt about it. maybe he'll relax over time.

he spends a lot of time with his sworn brother, but the sworn brother is probably the nicest person in the world and your husband doesn't really have many friends, so you don't mind. in fact, you're really pleased that he has the sworn brother to support him! they probably touch each other more than your husband touches you, and he probably spends more time with his sworn brother than he spends with you, but he still treats you with affection and respect, so you don't really feel like you can complain. you're just happy he's happy!

and then the baby is born, and it's a boy! you've given him an heir! it's perfect and you're so excited, because surely this baby is something the two of you can really bond over together and you can become close again-

and then he names your son as an obvious deliberate reference to his sworn brother.

like. what other conclusions can you really draw, at this point??? I am pretty confident Qin Su believed her husband was gay.

We often say that CQL dragged Jin Guangyao through the dirt and forced him to bear more sins than ever before, but CQL also gave us a Lan Xichen who loved Jin Guangyao with even greater visible intensity and devotion.

Novel Lan Xichen loved Jin Guangyao from the shadows, his dedication ran just as deep, but he kept it in his heart, while live action Lan Xichen puts it on his lips.

Novel Lan Xichen silently enters seclusion to live out the rest of his life in mourning for his dead soulmate. Drama Lan Xichen tells us plainly he will never reenter the world without Jin Guangyao.

This is partially because of the medium. A picture tells a thousand words. How can you see the softness in Lan Xichen's eyes as well in text as you can in live action?

Both Lan Xichen, when told by the words of others, what Jin Guangyao has done, would rather hear it from him and until he confesses it, none of it is true. Both Lan Xichen, when faced with Jin Guangyao's impending persecution, think only of how to save A-Yao.

Both Lan Xichen, no matter the circumstances, want to protect their A-Yao, even if they have to become their father. If A-Yao is willing, if A-Yao wants it...

A-Yao of the novel dies knowing he protected the white moonlight of his heart. A-Yao of the drama ends the series knowing that even if the weight of his sins was a thousand times heavier, Lan Xichen will still take his side.

From a Xiyao point of view, while CQL at times painted our A-Yao in the image of a villain as much as they made him a hero, they gave him a Lan Xichen to stand before all Lan Xichen.

One to say, whether the Lan only love once, this Lan only loves one. If there was anyone before, there will be no one after. Lan Xichen in every universe, will love and protect Jin Guangyao, will support his dreams and follow his lead.

Every Lan Xichen will cherish Jin Guangyao.

Why Aziraphale was listening to Shostakovich’s 5th Symphony

In ep. 1 we see Aziraphale taking this record from Maggie’s shop in lieu of her rent. Later, it’s what he’s listening to when Gabriel arrives unexpectedly. To hopefully no Gomens fan’s surprise, this is no coincidence, for probably a few reasons:

1) The opening title music feels influenced by Shostakovich’s waltz style, so it’s a cute nod to that.

2) The meatier reason lies with what you might call the mythology (lore?) behind this particular symphony.

(Quick disclaimer that aspects of this are debated by scholars which is beyond the scope of this post, but the point is more about the story surrounding the symphony and how it complements the show).
