“What, never looked in a mirror?” Nitori gestures to her own ears. “The only people I know with ears like those are tengu, which you definitely aren’t.”

“You’re just as annoying as one, I’ll give you that. But fine, human it is.”

“Ah, so it’s you I have to seduce to get the money?”

“Yeah, good luck with that human... human? Whatever you are.”

“Business relationships? Like seducing your boss, ruining his marriage and running off with all his money, leaving him broke and a broken man, while you’re sunbathing on some tropical island?”

“The humans here really love this kind of gossip, huh? It’s like nobody here has anything better to talk about.”

“There’s more useful things to be interested in, anyways. At the end of the day, the only relationships I prefer to operate are business relationships.”

“When it comes to romance, I hear it’s all about dating. So today I’ve got...”

“Dates! Get your dates here! They’re healthy and delicious! We’re selling them fast, so buy them quick! Get your dates right here!”

“The only parent-child relationship I care about is how kids can get their stubborn parents to buy frivolous things for them. That’s easy money!”

Color him surprised…here he was basically heckling her and she’s basically offering him a job, too. Makes him wonder if she’s really that desperate or if there’s a catch. 

A hum.

“I guess I could help out…you’re not gonna try and throw me in revenge or anything, right?”

Wrangle humans…right. Then again a little more money wouldn’t be bad…but also this is customer service isn’t it. The worst kind. 

“If you’re making this a permanent thing I can’t do it forever, but I guess.”

“I mean I considered it, but I don’t have the right equipment to restrain you on-hand anyways. And if you’re just going to stand there and make quips, I might as well make you useful,” she frankly exclaims while perhaps being a bit too candid about her thoughts, before pausing again to help the next person lining up. “I’m not doing this gig for too long, but while I am, another hand would be helpful.”

     She briefly goes over the guidelines she came up with while continuing to help customers. Hold your hands over your head, keep your legs together, stay still when being launched, and so on— it was rather basic, all things considered.

“That’s the gist of it! I’m keeping things up for a few more hours, but if interest dies I’ll close up shop early— and I’ll pay you when we’re done.”

As usual, people kind of don’t care until they see an actual splatfest in front of them…or if they go splat themselves. 

Frankly, Badou doesn’t care either way. He finds it funny that she started this little hustle, that she’s calling him ‘human’ like that (valid, she’s right, but it’s still hilarious to him). 

And when it all goes according to plan, he turns to her with a grin, and clapping that isn’t sarcastic, even.

“That’s great! Glad you won’t have to deal with any lawsuits or anything. Good for you, man.”

“Glad you see things my way, now! ... Anyways, since you’re just standing here, are you interested in a job? Oh, one moment— hi, right this way~” Shifting back into business mode, she proceeds to repeat the process before heading over to Badou again— now looking much more friendly. “It’s nothing hard. All you’d do is help people up, get them secure, and tell them the safety measures I came up with.”

“That way I can focus more on the finances and with wrangling humans while down here.” As much as she didn’t want to admit it, doing this by herself was a bit much. It helped that she had hired someone off the street to take care of things on the other end, but having one more pair of hands here would be nice.

“With how a crowd’s starting to line up, I’ll be able to pay you pretty decently.”

“Not their death, no…but if enough people got hurt and were given hush money….of course, I doubt you’d do that,” he assures her with a grin. 

His single eye flickers across the contraption again and shakes his head.

“Nah, not interested in losing another eye. Have you accounted for bird migration?” 

Is he messing with her…………..

     As the two spoke, people were intrinsically stepping up behind Badou. “Birds? I— ugh, look human, I’m here to make money, not break even. If you’re so skeptical, then get out of the way and just watch! —Hi, yes, I can help you out right here~”

     Her tone and expression changes almost immediately as she begins to gesture to the brave soul who had started the line Badou, taking care of the transaction first. Leading them up to the catapult’s bucket, Badou can overhear her going over some brief safety guidelines, before stepping down herself.

Pulling out a walkie talkie, she curtly speaks into it with a, “Look sharp, they’re comin’.” And with that, her tiny fist hits a small button on the side of the machine— which proceeds to send them flying. Their scream can be heard for a good while... until, in the distance, they're seen landing, with a figure helping them up seconds later. A voice mumbles over the radio, and the kappa grins. “A successful launch! How’s that?” 

     Turning to Badou, she smugly grins at him.

Badou’s standing there listening to this, smoking a cigarette, taking it all in.

No, he is not interested in being thrown anywhere, involuntarily or not. 

But he’ll give her one thing….he appreciates her hustle. She saw an opportunity and took it. 

“Have you tested out those safe cushions yourself?”

     A few people were curiously inspecting the machine by now when Badou stepped up, and she had just been about to tell him to form a line when he spoke up.

“Of course I have— and the mechanism as well,” she candidly announces, with just a hint of annoyance in her voice. “There’s no profit to be made in flinging one or two people to their death. I’ve even taken into account weight and height variables since not everyone’s as small as me, and even the wind. It’s perfectly safe for humans, and anyone else for that matter. So, are you interested in a ride?”

“Considering you have people and creatures of all shapes, sizes, and weights I have serious doubts that you could calibrate the catapult to accommodate everyone from different worlds, however capable your people’s technology might be.” She wasn’t doubting that this kid was smart. To run a stunt with this much confidence, she probably was. However, her dinner was getting cold and this city’s nightly antics were getting old. Raine began to turn on her heel.

“Fine then. I’m going to go find the night watch and have them deal with you. Oh! I think I see a few guards chatting over there.” All you had to do was give up the megaphone Nitori.

“So you’re going to play like that? Fine.” Nitori wasn’t going to take a dismissal like this from a petty coward. She’ll show her.

“Ahem!” Tapping the back of her megaphone, she exclaims loudly into it while flying up slightly— in order to make herself noticeable. “Excuse me, guards! I’ve got someone here infringing on my rights as an independent businesswoman by attempting to unlawfully shut me down just for making noise, despite this being a public beach. If I can have your assistance to handle this lady in orange here, I’ll throw in a free ride for each of you~ In fact, I’ll give the first five people to step up free rides as well!”

     Said guards, who had been called out, look slightly puzzled. They turn to one another, shrug, and proceed to slowly start walking on over— the crowd Nitori had gathered also looking more interested. A few even start to step up, even.

“My, and what if I turned around and told everyone that the guards came by ten minutes ago and told you to shut this operation down due to safety violations? I don’t suppose that many people would be interested in taking up your offer if that was the case.” There was no way she was getting in that death trap. “In my day I ran plenty of tricks myself. Pack it up and call it a day or this might become a problem. ♡ ”

“Trick?” Now that ticks her off. “Shows what you know. If you think I’m seriously advertising a death trap, then you’ve got no business sense. 2000 dust is chump change here, and I’d be hardly netting any kind of profit from killing one person and splitting. I’ve already worked my butt off on the specifications and have personally tested the machine and the landing pit. Don’t underestimate kappa technology!”

Why do so many people love to scream at the top of their lungs in this Ward? Especially in the middle of the night with Zelos and that kid who kept doing a so-called musical performance right outside of her apartment. Raine already had a headache from having to read some last-minute essays turned in from students hoping to save their grades for the semester. She can’t just pick up dinner in peace, can she?

“I’ll pay you the 2000 dust if you get rid of that megaphone.”

     There was a small crowd of students looking on in curiosity— but the first person to approach was this lady. The smile on Nitori’s face flatlined.

“Look lady, if you’re not stepping up to ride, then that’ll be 5000 dust to get me to stop. ... Unless...” And suddenly, her expression turns sly. She had a great idea. “For 2500 dust, I’ll stop using the megaphone— if you get on the ride and try it out. The way the humans are all looking at me right now, they’re probably too scared to volunteer. But if they see someone else try it first, then they’ll be interested— and I won’t even need to use this megaphone anymore. Works out for me, and you get the chance of a lifetime. Deal?”

“Ahem, hello, hello~” At the beach of the Golden Ward and speaking into a megaphone while standing in front of a large catapult, the kappa loudly exclaims, “I heard there were people being thrown around last night— but haven’t you ever wanted to feel that sort of rush yourself, in a totally safe way? Well now you can!”

“Introducing the Sky High Catapult Ride! Perfectly tested so that you can fly like a bird— before crashing down into a mound of safe cushions! For only 2000 dust, you can experience this once of a life time opportunity! Step on up!”

Ogata’s eye turns. Not only had this child broken in but she was also now trying to make a strike a deal with him… He doesn’t know how seriously can he take her, if she’s any use at all or if she’s just to get some easy pocket money. 

“ And how can I tell that you’re any use to me? “ he asks, “ do you even know what that’d entail? “

It’s not a lot of money really but he’s not about to let her in on that. Instead he smirks.

“ Aren’t kids your age supposed to be running at playground? “

He should at least figure out what’s her deal before making assumptions.

     Her immediate response is to laugh. This guy was careful, huh?

Nevermind the fact that he still thought she was just some kid. Sheesh.

“Ha-ha, well I’m not the one on the run, right? If someone’s helping you from afar through the use of these phones, then it should make things easy for you. From what I gather, those robots are mainly focusing on people take up their little quests or who attack them. I haven’t done either yet.” Emphasis on yet, as she was still fully planning on investigating one of these quests on her own time. Right now, however...

“So if they see me, they won’t care as much unless I cause a fuss. But if you want to think I’m just a kid playing hardball, be my guest, human. This is a good offer. And if you don’t buy now, you’ll end up regretting it.”

“That aside, you’re probably the kid here compared to me, y’know. Us kappa live a lot longer than you humans do. Age better too.”
