Hellooo 🤓 I was wondering whether you guys are still planning to finish the TDiE season 3 commentaries this summer? No pressure at all! ❤️❤️Just curious because the schedule on the website shifts around a lot. Also asking because I’m stupid levels of nostalgic for Shadowhunters + you guys 😭👉👈

We absolutely plan to stick to the schedule every time we make it, and then life happens, and as rude as it is, the tDiE commentaries are always the easiest thing to move and give us a little bit more wiggle room 🤦 we’re so sorry!! 😭😭 but yes. We will record them. And we will release them. Even if it kills us!! 😤 (<- that’s a determined face) We just can’t 100% promise that the dates won’t shift again 🥺

I know destiny and chicken is long concluded but I'm writing in to say how much I'm enjoying it. I regret that I didn't listen to it when it was coming out and get to chat with everyone at the time, but I listen to it at work and it really gets me through the day as most of my job is doing repetitive tasks on the computer. This is only my second Merlin rewatch as I didn't watch it when it came out, but I'm really enjoying having more foresight about the rest of the show, more knowledge about arthuriana and medieval europe, and more engagement with fans like you guys this time around. Thank you so much for making such a lively and interesting podcast.

Hi, Molly anon, again. Thank you for your reply! I wasn’t offended. But I had the impression that in the midst of your very valid frustration with the show, Molly’s own experience just kind of got lost?

Shameless definitely didn’t handle her character well or give her the space to have a real story. But, ignoring the deleted scene, I think Molly’s feelings about her gender are still there if we keep an eye out for them. Namely, after Fiona tells her she’s a boy, Molly looks hurt and confused. But then she borrows Fiona’s bikini and makeup. To me, it’s like she’s sending out a clear message about who she is. Is it played up for very bad comedy? Yes, unfortunately. But she still does it and that's all we have to go off of.

I don’t think it’s entirely fair to any character to ask them to sort through possible trauma and exterior influences before we deign accept their gender. No cis person has to do all that, why should Molly? She’s not "default" boy until she can prove otherwise, that’s just compcis. Maybe she'll change her mind down the line, but until then she's consistent about her gender. To me, the bottom line is: people are the gender they say they are. Whether Shameless handled her character well is a separate question. I think, despite the bad handling, there’s enough in the show to say Molly’s a girl. So yeah, I wish that aspect hadn't gotten obscured by every other character's opinions.

Completely agree with your bottom line. And if I met Molly in real life and she told me she was a girl, that would be the end of that conversation, as far as I was concerned.

I do not expect Molly to sort though possible trauma before I accept her gender or, more importantly, any real person.

However, as they say, reality is no excuse for fiction. And therefore I do expect Shameless (actually any content creator, for that matter) to put in the work when creating a character, and come to the table with a finished idea, rather than a half formed thought that they didn’t have the energy or investment to make well rounded.

Especially when you’re throwing a marginalised character into your very white, very cis TV show.

We will continue having the same issue with characters of colour being introduced into the show as half formed caricatures and stereotypes, often for comedic reasons, presumable (at best) due to laziness.

We love this show, but we are also very aware that it is often a trash fire, never more so than when it comes to representation. Sigh. 😞

the writers seem to think fiona is free for different plotlines - except the new plotlines for fiona invariably revolve around some guy and are thus always way less interesting than the family dynamic! the show is so held together by the family, and so fiona's seperation from it from this point is so upsetting to me.

I feel every single word of this SO HARD 😭😭
