Peter Morwood
I am so sorry to have to tell you all about this. None of you, I suspect, will ever have any idea how sorry.
I am in utter shock and terrible pain to have to inform everyone that our friend, my dear husband and creative partner of nearly forty years, Peter Morwood, passed away suddenly early this morning after a brief illness that as late as yesterday (when his doctor saw him) had seemed to be on the mend.
I'm not in any position to say much more about this situation now, as you'll understand my current mental state is not up to the task. (I keep expecting to wake up from a bad dream, but it shows no sign of breaking.) I will let people know more about this in coming days.
There will be a postmortem shortly to determine the exact cause of his death. I'll share what details of this are appropriate as they become clear.
Meanwhile in the short term I'm very much going to need assistance with the expenses that in the days that follow will inevitably surround what's happened. For those people who want to assist, please feel free to use the Ko-Fi account here, and simply tag the associated messages, etc, "P expenses".
My love will wait for me, I know, however long it takes. He's never minded waiting. (the saddest smile) My job now is to make sure he's not forgotten while I go on.
Meanwhile, can I just say to all of of you: I thank you all ahead of time for all the support and fondness for Peter that I know so many of you will express. He'd blush over it, I know. (He always did.) Please forgive me for being unable to do much in the way of answering messages, just now, in the wake of having to get to grips with this sudden and awful change in my world.
But also let me say, so urgently: Hug your loved ones now, while you can. Eventually a day will come when, expected or not, your opportunities end.
Thanks, friends.

An internet community decides they need a Discord, and in the Discord everyone agrees having only one channel is too cluttered. There should be topics. The admin says, "We will make a channel for Red topics and a channel for Blue topics." And people agree, until someone asks where Yellow topics go and, well now there's a Yellow channel for that.
Then someone has a Green topic and some people say, "It goes in Blue channel" and other people say, "Stop cluttering Blue channel. This is a Yellow channel topic." So don't worry, the admin creates the Green channel for this.
Then there are Purple topics that maybe go in Red or Blue but it's confusing. The admin makes Purple channel. The admin makes Orange channel. A new user has a Periwinkle topic and goes into the Blue channel and says, "Is this the right place for this?" and one person says "Yes" and another person says, "No, go to Purple" and the admin makes Periwinkle channel.
It is current day. You are new to this discord. There are 137 channels. You don't know if your Green topic goes in the Forest Green, the Fern Green, or the Sea Green channel.
You mute the discord.

Pretty much everyone in a Noir story is driven by greed, lust, jealousy, or alienation. A path that inevitably sucks them into a downward spiral from which they cannot escape. They couldn't find their exit from their personal highway to hell if flashing neon lights pointed to a town named Hope. Otto Penzler

Once when I was a kid my dad told me to “stop being a you-know-what”. And we’d done the whole song and dance enough times that I knew he meant “bitch”, so I told him: That’s cheating. You know what you mean, and I know what you mean- you’re just stepping around it so you can pretend you’re on the high ground. So if you’re going to call me a bitch, at least have the balls to actually say it.
And it’s been about fifteen years since then but I’m just now figuring out that that’s the same feeling I get hearing shit like “grape” and “unalive”.
If your audience knows what you mean, you might as well actually say it. Otherwise you’re just fucking hiding
#this is the main reason I fucking hate TikTok#cutesy speak is leaking out to real life#can we fucking not

Everyone who uses threads seems like they live on a different plane of reality than everyone else

Weird take maybe but I'm actually so relieved Alecto the Ninth got pushed back? Maybe it's just being a product of my generation and seeing the past decade roll out timely, consistent, utterly generic and unfeeling Marvel movies that sacrifice unique messages or engaging plots for algorithmic shock value cinema that's guaranteed to earn crowds and cash.
Maybe it's the horror from stories I've heard about video game workers and Disney animators being incredibly overworked---sometimes actually to death---over deadlines made to appease their corporate overlords.
Maybe it's the dehumanization inherent from smartphone culture that went from sporadic but actually groundbreaking innovations to scheduled yearly model updates that change almost nothing or actively make things worse and less accessible while also tripling the price.
I like that Tamsyn Muir is taking the time to make sure all her many incredibly complex threads of worldbuilding and foreshadowing are tied up thoroughly. I like that she has time to explore characterization, maybe trying out different arcs and going back and saying no, that's not true to them actually, or doesn't fit the thesis she's trying to get across.
God, not to dunk Marvel but I miss stories with themes and thesises. I miss stories that follow through on bits of lore they drop, or explore the implications of horrifying aspects of the sci-fi world. And I truly think the third book release date being pushed back means we'll get a better book.
I hope it means Muir is taking care of her mental health. I hope she's taking breaks. I hope the publishing agency is giving her the space she needs. I hope she's sleeping enough. No content or deadline is worth sacrificing your health for, and I'm constantly reminding myself of that when I engage online with creators, including fanfiction writers or artists.
When we do get Alecto the Ninth, whether it be in 2022 or even later, I know it will be well worth the wait.
