My Life Thought Out Brazilian Jiu-jitsu
15 posts
A positive, enthusiastic, realistic point of view also relaxed talk kinda thing with room for improvement and sometimes funny stuff going around of it. A place where you can express your point of view or also jump in a dialogue with others, mainly about subjects related with bjj. A little bit about me, I am Brazilian, 2nd degree purple belt under Carlos Rollyson (7th red and black belt), BJJ player, "guardeiro" by hearth, sometimes "passador" by outside forces, and by that a mean other practioner. somehow I think I'm a competitor but not positive on that one and somehow holds a psychology Bacharel's degree. Anyway trying to discover myself though out the tool of Brazilian jiu-jitsu

Find yourself at ease in a bad situation. Feel comfortable in uncomfortable positions. Try your best and don't settle for others people's limits. You can achieve everything you set your mind to, just take hard work and dedication! And during all that process, dream! Jiu jitsu is a lot like life. There's ups and downs, happy days, sad days, all kind of days, sometimes you are on top another times at the rocking bottom. We can see that on our everyday. Also, we can see that on our everyday training. Things are not as awesome as they seem. They are made of hard work like everything else in life. Many times not just In life we question ourselves if we are on the right way of doing things. I guess we should give ourselves the benefit of doubt for everything, just to understand and realize that things could go on a different way that ended up going. That make us learn from the past mistakes or whatever we got right and help us in follow forward. Same analogy should be apply on training. Everyone has a unique jiu jitsu, work on your faves and from there start expand. We have different jiu jitsu goals and that force us to realize others Little details and focus on certain things, just like life. I'm not saying bjj is all, remember bjj is tool of self improvement. Same approach we have on the everyday training we should have on the everyday living. We have to be more rational than emotional. Not saying emotions are bad or useless, but they do play a rule every time we do a emotion based decisions, almost guarantee is not the best. Well, what I mean by rational way of doing things is simply finding different way to do or achievement of goals. Who are the best players on bjj, I can't list all of them here but all of them have a game plan. And that is not a emotion, is a result of a analitic thinking based in Logic. Many people have the same chance in life, some do better than others, based on their decisions and dedication but they still have ups and downs, just like anyone else. Always keeping trying cuz we never know when you gonna get it.

Jiu jitsu changed my life. That’s one of the most popular sayings in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. That’s true and everyone says that, but the point of it is how. Some people are driven by physcal results, while others strive for peace that the gentle art bring them. Either way, fun is part of the journey. Jiu jitsu change my life by making me a better person. I’m just a purple belt but I can see changes, changes in behavior, thoughts, lifestyle, and doing the right thing or what I am supposed to do. Basically, all these facts can be said in one word, discipline.
Jiu Jitsu is full of drills that are repeated over and over and the search for perfect form is almost impossible, but it does payoff. You learn all that from the details. Details are a part of everything and anything you are going to do. If your going to do something, use your heart and don’t half-ass things. Details and effort. Those words define many athletes journeys in this sport.
Jiu jitsu taught me all that, and also to never give up of my dreams. That is probably why I’m still here today after many rough years in America. Not giving up makes you a warrior in life and it makes you to respect yourself and fight for a better life. Especially in situations of stress in your life, some life events take a toll on us and jiu jitsu helps us learn how to act or perform in those stressful situations while having a better point of view . Some people may ask how? When you train bjj you are under stress all the time and you have to find a solution for a problem that’s always changing in a short period of time and can’t panic. If you panic or stop being rational, your going to lose or expend a lot of energy regaining the steps behind you need to make up.
In few words how has bjj changed my life? Discipline, respect, peace, and definitely a “modern warrior”. It may not seem like much but those are caracteristics that can change any persons life to better. Being a modern warrior reminds me of a saying that my friends used to tell me when I lived in San Diego, California. “Lets live the dreams as long as we can”. Or in others words, never give up of your dreams.
So, how did bjj change your life?
